Japan is a Cyberpunk Dystopia 

Nobody cares about Korea... They literally try so hard to be like Japan(south korea) or even China(north korea). Korea is like the troublesome child that tries to imitate their parents. Still they can't really claim what their parents already did ages before them and without US, China and Japan would probably bring Korea's economy to its knees in seconds. South Korea has like zero word in the pacific ocean. They also try to reach a soft-power like status like Japan has reached worldwide trough media and music. The reality is the South Korea is basically hanging from a straw before catastrophe. The only thing I agree about is that Korea is basically controlled by the richest companies but then again... Which capitalist country isn't? Everyone has lobbyism going on it feels like. Besides that even as a "young and innovative newcomer" south Korea does a even worse job at handling the consequences than Japan. And letting tech companies do whatever they want eventually is the reason why South Korea got out oft poverty in first place and because they basically wanted soms warm cuddles(for exchange) from the west(US), like Japan did decades ago. Also the whole Cyberpunk Genre took place during the 40-80s, where people witnessed eastern Countries like Japan and such become global players so there was a fear modern orientalism and Japan was gonna be one oft the leaders of that movement, which would consist of basically most Asian countries united against the west.

Actually this video was inspired by Quinn Henry-South Korea is a Cyberpunk Dystopia (I cannot recomend his video enough) where he talks about that, but I honestly think that Japan has it worse in a lot of things

That Korean dystopia video is rather spurious when viewed from an international perspective. After all, South Korea's income inequality (Gini coefficient) is a lot lower than the US and not much different than European countries like France and Germany. When it comes to wealth inequality (again Gini) South Korea ranks as one of the least (!!) unequal countries in the world. Those are more comprehensive metrics for determining capitalist dystopia than simply looking at a single company. Or is Denmark is cyberpunk dystopia because Novo Nordisk's market cap surpasses the entire country's GDP?

@@Illuminatorofshadow Oligarchy? Not just capitalist CLASS dicatorship (as usual in capitalist countries) but simply THE dictatorship of 1 or 2 companies? Well, at least they have low Gini index and totally not killing themselves in staggering rates.

without being japanese, but just by watching the video it strikes me as so full of inaccuracies, outdated info, or just wildly exaggerated that idk what to think about it. for once a lot of it seems to be that he is taking a script intended for a video about sk. replace samsung for mitsubishi and there you have it. the grueling school system is something that also applies better to sk than japan. japan made lots of amendments to their school system in the 90s IIRC, same with work culture lots of changes since the 90s. and a lot of other stuff like that in the video. well just going from what i've read about japan (and i read quite a bit about japan over the years) and some talks with japanese acquaintances, i'm not sure how the general japanese public feel about it.

I'm Japanese too. When I was young I read William Gibson's Neuromancer and wondered why my neighborhood was so boring compared to Chiba City.😂

@@vandervi_ You took Quinn's script and changed "Korea" with "Japan". Given the fact that "Korea" has been said quite of in his video that makes up a lot of changes and differences so yeah, you are actually right.

Maybe I exaggerated a bit, but big compoanys like the keiretsu that I mention had a lot of power, and are the ones where most people want to get into

From my research they can be other keiretsus that are bigger in number of companies, but mitsubishi is the biggest one, the mere fact that they are 10%of the ecomy is just crazy

@@vandervi_ that's true, Mitsubishi is way more into government and heavy industry. These 10% are way high au contraire to other big ones.

That happens because they have existed since japan became a democracy, and arguably before that

I think is both ways, Japan's goverment screwing business and business screwing japan's goverment,

A lot of the Keiretsus were created in companionship with the republic of Japan, them goverment deliberately created them to help their friends (as they technically existed as zaibatsus before ww2) and to artificially boost japan's economy, but they got to powerfull and they got out of their control

@@vandervi_ power is in hand of the government. Business can't force decisions on politicians. This sort of issues happen when people let politicians have too much power while they naively think that politicians are sweet little angels. While in fact about 99% of them are career psychopaths. Regardless of the country you're in, this is the universal truth. Since psychopaths always seek to make career in places of power. This is why in countries where government has least amount of power, they generally flourish the most.

@@vandervi_ It can't be power. Since corporations don't have any power. All power to make things happens is in hands of politicians. I generally dislike when people act as if they are some helpless sheeps who just can't say no if someone just offers bit money.
