The US Army Air Force didn't use Iwo Jima as a launch-off point for bombing attacks, but more as a base for planes to land if they were lost, low on fuel, damages, etc. Most of the main B-29 bombing squadrons were based in the Marianas.

Thanks. Also: p51 mustangs flying daylight escort missions. This is the primary objective, but literaly thousands of pilots and crew thank their lives to that safe place for emergency landings.

@@shadowling77777 I believe the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are what finally made the Japanese Imperial Navy sign a peace treaty in Tokyo abroad the USS Missouri because if they kept fighting after those bombings Tokyo probably would have become the next atomic bomb target for the Allies

@@leeirby3857 not true. The Japanese had been already trying to surrender but the US wasn't listening. Needed to nuke em to scare the Russians. They had no more nukes for Tokyo anyway.

And the problem is made worse by the fact that instead of researching and showing the actual combat footage contained in the U.S. Archives, they are resorting to childish CGI cartoons now. History is important, but the use of cartoons makes it all a lie.

Iwo Jima was not a B-29 base. B-29s could land there in an emergency, but the base was primarily for fighters. B-29s flew out of Tinian and Saipan.

Iwo Jima needed to launch B-29s? Nonsense. Iwo was needed as base for fighter escorts for B-29s and for emergency landings of damaged B-29s. Facts still matter.

I don't believe that B29s were launched from Iwo Jima. It was just a good place for damaged B29s to land on their return flight.

They did not need Ivo Jima to launch attacks with B 27 on Japan from it, they needed it for the escort fighters and for crippled b 27 to land on. The B17 raids came from the Mariana Islands.

But with one big difference❗‼❗😱 They knew we were coming and we weren't talking peace minuets before our bombs dropped❗😡 And our boys didn't beg for their medics for help to pop a grenade to take just one more down..... The world wonders. But possibly they thought they would destroy the carriers at Pearl Harbour. Then no Midway defeat for them. Add to it that they underestimated the american production capacity, and you can see how they thought they had a chance to challenge the usa
