Let's board a night train with sleeper cars from Tokyo to the Sea of Japan! This video guide will walk you through the JR Sunrise Izumo
Express from Tokyo Station to Izumo.
Passengers on Japan's night trains have declined so there are few night trains left in Japan. This is the only daily one from Tokyo.
Notes:
★ Shower tickets - buy them as soon as you board. Limited number available. There's a vending machine. 320 yen for 6 minutes.
*Bring your own towel.
★ No food on board. Buy your own breakfast, snacks, beer
BEFORE you board. There is a softdrink vending machine but the
prices are high.
★ JR Rail Pass is okay for this sleeper train but only for the Nobinobi Zaseki (のびのび座席) flat area. There are upgrade charges for compartments / cabins. Make a reservation at a JR ticket
office. It's best to do this as early as possible esp on the weekends and holiday.
Sunrise Izumo Schedule / サンライズ出雲 時刻表 :
▶︎ 22:00 Depart Tokyo 東京
▶︎ 22:23 Yokohama横浜
▶︎ 23:53 Fuji 富士
▶︎ 00:19 Hamamatsu 浜松
(Next day)
▶︎ 05:25 Himeji 姫路
▶︎ 06:27 Okayama 岡山
The Train splits here. Half goes to Shikoku Island for Takamatsu,
Half continues to the Sea of Japan towards Izumo.
▶︎ 09:03 Yonago 米子
▶︎ 09:30 Matsue 松江
▶︎ 09:58 Izumoshi 出雲市
What are the attractions of Izumo, Matsue, Yonago (San'in area)?
That's easy!
☆ Izumo Taisha: One of Japan's most important shrine
☆ Izumo soba
☆ Matsue Castle
☆ Horikawa Boat Tour
☆ Yonago Castle Ruins (great view!) and Beaches
☆ Eshima Ohashi
☆ Kaike Onsen
☆ Mt. Daisen
☆ ... and loads more!
So ... take a break from the super fast shinkansen and save some cash on a hotel while riding the rails. Sunrise Izumo Express all the way!!
Prices:
Japan Rail Pass Access to all JR Rail trains in Japan but not private lines.
Unlimited travel on all JR trains! Get one. It's worth it!
7-day pass : 29,110 YEN
14-day pass : 46,390 YEN
21-day pass : 59,350 YEN
www.japanrailpass.net/en/
The reservation for the Sunrise Izumo Express is FREE (Nobinobi Zaseki seat only).
You can upgrade to a compartment by only paying the difference.
Visit this page to see the prices on various compartments: jprail.com/trains/sort-by-type...
Extra fees *if you have a JR Rail Pass

Japan Rail Pass and Night Trains: If you're coming to Japan with a JR Japan Rail Pass, it's good for more than just the #shinkansen (bullet train). If you want to get off the beaten path and save on a night at a hotel, perhaps the SUNRISE IZUMO EXPRESS from Tokyo Station to the Sea of Japan is your ticket. All you need is a reservation and it's free! In this episode, John reports from this unique sleeper car on a 12 hour 950km ride to Yonago, Matsue and Izumo. #japanrailpass #japan #train #pass #tokyo #JR #サンライズ出雲 #電車 #nighttain #couchette

Hungry Guy Quirky_On_Shy I think so, but on the other hand, I don't think Japanese passengers buy more than one. It's "mottainai" and taking more than one person needs. I I think if you have a lot of hair, shampoo it when you arrive the next day. For guys, there's no excuse to use more than 6 minutes! It's not THAT amazing. haha! There were some students who SHARED a shower with a friend. 3 min and 3 min ... or together? I didn't ask. -John

Sunrise express is the last regular sleeper in Japan. Other sleepers are very luxury cruise train only (The Seven stars in Kyusyu, The Twiglight express MIZUKAZE available in 2017 spring, The Train suite SHIKISHIMA available in 2017 spring, The Cassiopeia cruise) . So anyway, you can use shower room more time. Water can use only 6 minutes, but that push stop button (red color), you can stop water and count timer. It's very important information!

The Sunrise Izumo will have to offer food service for me at a minimum to take that train. Via Rail, Amtrak, RZhD, Trenitalia, SNCF, Caledonian Sleeper and many other European trains offer food service onboard long-distance intercity trains. Why JR didn't pre-covid do the same with respect to the Sunrise Seto or Izumo beat me although maybe JR will realize that on offering on-board meal service it lags behind RZhD and most of the Western counterparts of Japan's and Russia's equivalents to Amtrak.

Love your channel! I've ridden this train from Kumamoto to Tokyo and it was great - For anyone who is curious about roominess in the nobinobi zaseki, I'm 6'4" and slept comfortably, and you're allowed to bring your small luggage up into your bunk if you're concerned about valuables (even though Japan is probably the least likely place to have something nicked).

Shravan Singh apparently its free if you got a train pass....I don't know how it costs thiigh, and obviously it will be pricy compared to India....cost of living and all...and saves the hotel cost as well..
@BDSSSASASDSAD
@BDSSSASASDSAD 6 лет назад
Shravan Singh Japan people also earn more than India so cost is not much of a difference
@BDSSSASASDSAD
@BDSSSASASDSAD 6 лет назад
Shravan Singh yes agreed Japan has all sorts of transportation services but in India we prefer traveling from Rajdhani or Shatabdi for short distances if we have to travel in major cities definitely we pick flights but I usually pick Rajdhani for my travel being an upper middle class. Japan is also smaller than India.

This is one of the rarest videos on RU-vid to ever leave me stop whatever i'm doing and focus for 12 minutes with excitement, you're way too professional for RU-vid, Heck! Just like what Mr. Tal said "better standards than most TV Stuff" e.g HBO Showtime AlJazeera Docs, watching this was a privilege, you have my Likes and subscription.

FDSeoul San Diego A few longs nights of editing but REALLY ENJOYED MAKING THIS ONE! I almost skipped adding the Okayam vending machine scene, unplanned like much of this video -- but I couldn't stop laughing. If I had gone for the drink, I would have left all my cameras behind. Such a nice memory because I made a few great friends on the train, old guys who had more stories than mother goose. Thank you so much for watching. Cheers from Tokyo. -John
