It's was my dream to walk the philosopher's path and that day I also visited many temples along the way , the autumn leaves were such a highlight some were a bright red in the area next to the Silver Pavilion and there was a graveyard area and ponds along the way covered in moss I'll never forget it and going further afield I would definitely do Mt. Hiei again but that is a full day

I was in Kyoto in April this year, you are 100% correct about this! I did find that bar hopping via a guide (Get your guide) added a lot more to my trip. Finding "hole in the wall bars" was amazing!

@@NinjaMonkeyguy We did go to Kiyomizu Dera and walked Ninenzaka/Sannenzaka and saw Geisha walking there. We also saw a few temples/shrines, but not Fushimi Inari shrine. Looking forward to seeing Kikakuji and Nishiki market.

Yasaka shrine in Gion area was a very nice surprise. 2nd visit to Gion area and the atmosphere was great. the food stalls were nice to look around and buy a few items for an empty stomach. the bamboo forest was a great site, not as big as i expected but very awing to see the height of the trees. interesting areas nearby also. i saw many of the often visited places in Kyoto and some just wandering around. bit done with kyoto for the time being until i can find newer areas to visit. planning to visit another city in lieu of Kyoto next time.

Done ‘m all, except the castle (only walked by it). My fav moments in Kyoto were dining riverside in Pontocho and the scenic boat ride down the Hozugawa river towards Arashiyama.

hmmm , ... I would add the train museum. It's incredibly large, interesting and fun. And few to zero foreign tourists. Also fun and interesting is hiking up to Doshisha cemetery.

A great list. Although I consider Kyoto one of my favourite cities in Japan, I've made the mistake of only doing day trips. One really needs a three day stay minimum to do it properly. I've done about ten percent of these, and usually tried to do to much and had to cut things due to lack of time. Fushimi Inari is quite a hike up. You are climbing a small mountain after all, be award of that fact.
@NinjaMonkeyguy
@NinjaMonkeyguy Год назад
I think a lot of people underestimate Kyoto, even this list is only scratching the surface of what there is to do and see. And yes Inari can be quite the hike!!

Pontocho and Kawaramachi are always at the top of my list. I know it’s not touristy, but it’s the heart of Kyoto.

hmmm,.... actually,... if you visit Rokkaku-Do (errr ... the temple's real name is Chōhō-ji), there is a large stone with an hexangular hole carved into it. This represents the geographical center of Kyoto.

Just a heads up for Fushimi Inari, it is a big walk up the mountain if you want to go to the top. On the last stretch of stairs I had to step over to the side a few times to catch my breath lol

Kyoto looks so beautiful.How long is the normal train journey from Tokyo,or is it worth using the shinkanzen? The geisha,s looked to graceful,almost looked like they were floating.

I have a question? Because the cost of the JR pass is a bit high and we are 3 people traveling. Though we are going before the rates go up. My question is is it worth getting the JR pass if we are only traveling from Tokyo to Kyoto round trip. We are staying in Kyoto for 2 nights. What would you suggest?
@NinjaMonkeyguy
@NinjaMonkeyguy Год назад
I’m not too sure about the specific costa of individual trips but you can use a jr pass calculator to figure that out. I expect it to not be worth it for just one return trip. Unless you’re planning on adding some further trips during the time
