(3-11-11) About 9:45am around 12 hours after the quake, ripples can be seen here in California. This shot is of Richardson Bay in Marin County, Tiburon, Strawberry, Sausalito, California
Welll we will see whhat happens when a tsunami hits off the coast of california wont we....fukushima took a direct hit 150 miles and what was it around a 11 on the richter scale ?...a massive earthqauke under the ocean where tetonic plates let go....
Wow, my partner lives in Mill Valley and seeing this little bay that we drive by every day with this wall of water evenly crested across the whole bay is hard to believe. Great footage! Thank you for posting this-especially for us locals!
Completely blown away, rdm415. We lived on 11 Mt. Tib Rd, literally a stone's throw from this filming. Moved to LA and began HS. Became a surfer, haven't returned to Tiburon, and this clip brings together surfable waves and my childhood home with excellent quality. Thank you!
Mark Rose this comment sounds like one of those people you hear talk to you and they expect you to beable to read there mind and you really have no clue to what the hell there talkin about.
I grew up in marin county and I still remember this day like it was yesterday. We are all still in shock from it and still trying recover. I lost my positive sense of humor that day
I still remember this day like it was yesterday. I was near the Fisherman's Warf in Monterey. All the boats in the marina were shaking and hitting the docks.
GOd, Marinis so beautiful! That's the most impressive thing about this video for me. If I had to live back in the States again, and if I had a choice, that's where it would be.
It doesn't look too bad, but it looks strong enough to damage a pier. If that was what was happening in California, I could only imagine how much damage was done in Japan. I've heard the waves in Japan have reached 140 feet tall, but no footage survived of it survived (for obvious reasons, the last thing you should do in a tsunami is stand still to stare at it), so the tallest waves caught on camera were only around 90 feet.
Awesome, I'm from the Bay Area and I didn't even know that tsunami wrapped around into the bay! Very neat. FYI you should totally monetize this video. You own the footage and there's no audio rights to worry about. Look into it. Thanks for sharing :)
@@rdm415 I was searching for videos about the tsunami on 3/11/11 and I randomly stumbled on yours. It was crazy, I immediately recognized your voice and your view from your backyard. I hope you've been doing well.
This is a sensible Videographer, some of the ones I see from the USA they are standing at the shore line after saying how quickly the water went out and stayed there for the wave to come in. You should never under estimate a tsunami even if the origin was thousands of miles away.
Not too sure why. It's a narrow inlet that leads to shallower depths as this part of the bay begins to widen, probably slowing it's rate of speed, if that helps.
That same wave went in front of my house in Alameda. I recorded the surges of water going in and out within a 35 min cycle. It would go out 500 and then back in. I measured the difference of 31".
Good job documenting just how we here in California must be aware and alert about such things. Can you imagine if it had been high tide, what would have happened to those homes? Those may be fancy, but those are human beings inside.
@brandsky191 No the seminary is where the wave is hitting...Not exactly but the seminary is on the other side of that shore line were the wave eventually crashes. He is filming from the tiburon area i believe
Our routine winter flooding is worse than this tsunami. Usually, the Hwy 1 off ramp in Sausalito (101North) is flooded as well as downtown San Anselmo. I think the harbor in Crescent City was wrecked by the tsunami.
The Great Japan earthquake that struck about 2:46 p.m. on 3-11-11, off Honshu, rolled clear across the Pacific and hit the San Francisco Bay Area the next morning early. For anyone who doesn't realize that Planet Earth is a very active planet only needs to see what has happened over the last 4.5 billion years! We've had MANY things happen since humans were here some 200,000 years ago, mass extinctions, meteor and asteroid strikes, floods, landslides, tsunamis, avalanches, ice age and drought, that all affected our planet in a big way! That's how the Grand Canyon and other even deeper canyons were formed, how many mountains were formed, we have 1500 volcanoes at present, 500 of which are active and dormant ones that could become active and blow again! Some people think we're in the beginning of the 6th mass extinction now. Only time will tell, but anyone who thinks our planet sleeps had better take a good look at our past!
@@rdm415 I wasn't inspired by anything, simply stating facts that came from research and constant learning about our planet! If people knew more about our planet's history, the better they can prepare for what occurs on it or is apt to occur!
@@woofdog4219 If a tsunami was big enough to wipe out that line of millionaire it would also devastate the entire Bay area. But the reality I think is also that there are very few possibilities for such a major tsunami to reach the bay area because of the distance such a wave would have to travel and still be a threat and that of course is a good thing. Or it is the angle of approach that would diminish the tsunami before it reaches the bay area. Even the 2011 9.0 in Japan resulted in that very diminished tsunami by the time it reached the west coast. And the 9.2 Alaska quake in 1960 did not cause a major tsunami in the Bay either primarly of the angle north from San Francisco Bay.
I was at ground zero when this happened. The devastation was enormous. It is unbelievable people were able to recover somewhat from the immense amount of damage that occurred in Marin county this day.
@@rdm415 haha no unfortunately not her, just the @ I always use cuz its the only wordplay i can do with Eloise, didnt know about her til now, but i do know hippy tree! One of my favorite views for sure
Not so at all... the energy can travel at app. the speed of a jet across an entire ocean depending on the direction of the thrust fault. Centuries back a Cascadian event killed thousands in Japan. They are called Ghost Tsunamies because their origin is so far away... they have no warning.
thanks for sharing your video w/us. I wonder what the frequency is for a tsunami? In the bottom frame where the bay & water meet it is easy to see the ripple effects of HAARP. You've captured far more than a tsunami wave.
It’s a conspiracy theory, that claims the “Illuminati” (lol) deliberately set off earthquakes, tsunamis etc. For reasons that are conveniently inexplicable.
@@andrewrobinson8305 lmao you think its a conspiracy theory....wow...you must be from the 80s or been incarcerated for the past 30 or so years....wow you are really way behind if you think this is a theory Do me a very big favor....don't speak to me again. I'm not here to make you feel better about your ego. don't just go away...stay away
It actually did do a little damage to marinas in Santa Cruz and some other coastal front places .... no where near being comparable with what happened in Japan but it put some rich peoples boats on some docks and on some rocks damaged some marinas which actually is impressive when ya consider the fact that it traveled across the Pacific ocean to be seen here on the beautiful CA coast its awfully convenient being tucked away inside the gates safer from the full on wave but I'm sure one day theres going to be that big ass one that probably goes through the San Fran bay and all the way up to the fresh water delta...... if God wanted it to go all the way up the Sacramento river then it surely would though so location these days dont really mean shit it's more so our selves and our community's blessings and praises cause things are going a bit different everywhere more every day and it's not no damm global warming bullshit theres truly some way different happenings coming on that dont have a thing to do with natural this is all very much in his control
