This is my contribution to Brian's Japan Vinyl Tag. I wanted to make my video shorter than his but still say lots of interesting and fun stuff. I succeeded in making a shorter video than his, but I had to edit it down just to keep it under an hour!
To make viewing less a hassle, I've broken down the video with time codes. You can see Brian's original video here:

Just wanted to say that I’m watching this over and over without having yet reached the end, rewinding back, as if I were turning back a page or two in a book to re-read so as to really make sure I’m grasping everything (because there is delightfully so much grasp) and I’m enjoying it more and more, the more I watch it. You have an excellent explanative delivery and it’s really a pleasant little joy to listen to you. I’m so happy we have been put on each others radar and I’m already looking forward to checking out past and future videos of yours. Eventually we’ll have to meet in person! Ok, I’ll leave another comment soon …back to your video!

@@tokyorecordstyle Wow! Brian, those are such heartwarming and encouraging words. I’ve really been trying to make shorter videos, but I decided to just let it all go for your thread. I actually edited out about 10-15 minutes. I’m so glad to read your words and those of a few others who took the time to watch this hour-long offering. I heard from my friend, Basti, that you two know each other. That’s awesome! I’m also glad to see you’re vinyl bros with Curtis in Nova Scotia. He’s such a great guy! It’s really hard for me to get out, but if we have a chance to meet up sometime, it would be cool!

Final comment, and sorry to be blitzing messages! Just one more VERY BIG THANK YOU! I absolutely loved your list, and I loved taking my take and absorbing it bit by bit for 2 days, marking down the selections, going and sifting around RU-vid and streaming services and really taking it all in. I honestly listened to it all, many/most to the last tracks. Great to revisit Styx, Rush, that Moody Blues Records, to discover that NIN record, Maki Yano, even Rankin Family and Polka Dogs, and holy cow, I haven't listened to Clockwork Fable yet, but I'm saving it cuz it sound so fun! In fact, this list on the whole was so much fun. And damn: Kinzoku Yebisu absolutely blew my mind! Listening as a type this. What a killer recommendation! Great to be connected more deeply, Peter. Maybe we try this again in 2025. Hope to connect again before thin! Best for now!

I wondered if you’d hop on this one. Beautiful photographs from the mountains, including the thumbnail shot. I have a love hate relationship with cities myself, I get what you’re saying there. I’m in NB as I type this, not familiar with Freeman Paterson - will have to keep an eye out for his work. I’ve listened to Casual Viewin’ (on your recommendation) and can totally see that as accompaniment for a good walk - it’ll put a little bounce in your step! Interesting radio play & music combo. Very intriguing. Love that Deep Purple story!!! Brilliant. My beloved Rankins! Nice choice. Being a fisherman’s son, I gotta tell you, I do love that tune. The whole album is great really. The Mull River Shuffle is a real crowd pleaser in these parts! North Country, Lisa Brown, Rise Again, Johnny Tullloch are all classics and have worked their way into the cultural fabric here on the island - people know them by heart. Hot take on city night life. I will plead guilt to being on both sides of the dystopia 😝 Going out strong with Sloan, nice!

Wow! Curtis, that is quite a comment! That tells me you must have sat through the whole video or at least most of it. Thank you so much for your time! I'm not sure if Freeman Patterson is alive anymore. He was already in his sixties I think when I had the chance to meet him in the nineties. His book Portraits of Earth was a huge eye-opener to me regarding photographing patterns and textures and light in nature and getting away from the typical calendar style of landscape photography. I was very pleased to show The Rankin Family. I briefly considered Buddy Wassisname and the Other Fellers but I haven't listened to them for a long time. It's a live album, so I could have used it for the live album category, but the Polka Dogs won over this time. I've enjoyed a few nice nights out with people I know, but as a commuter just trying to get home on a Friday or Saturday night, the stumbling, staggering fools and vomit pools are reminders that the city night is not all glamorous. The mountain and city photos were all iPhone or compact camera shots. I couldn't be arsed to dig out the heavy duty pics this time. These were good enough, I thought. This was a challenging tag. and I really hoped to get a video in under 45 minutes, but I had a few stories to tell and I wasn't going to give that up. Thanks again for watching and your detailed comment!

Hi Peter, awesome video! Just found your channel, but really enjoyed the stories and extra trivia you shared. I laughed a little when you were pronouncing "Styx" and called "Stax" (or Stacks) a bit ridiculous, considering my channel name :) Certainly discovered a quite a bit of music I'm unfamiliar with. That Aggression album sounds right up my alley, will have to seek that out for sure!

@@StacksChannelYT Hey, Mr. Stacks! Welcome and nice to meet you! By coincidence, I heard Steve mention your channel during his contest entry elimination videos. I myself thought about “Stax” and wondered if there was a relation in the slightest way to your channel’s name. I’d hate to have said something to make you go, “Well, I thought it was Stax. Sheesh! Thanks a lot!” I’ll swing by your way and see about adding you to my watch when I catch up list. Thanks so much for watching and leaving a comment!

Well done. I have a lot of Japanese bands, but as you say I think I'm a bit tagged out. I still have two pre-recorded tags/comp's to publish. I agree with you on the zen question. I like to be engaged or challenged, not sent to sleep. I have heard of music listening bars but never been to one. I love Japan and my in-laws are Japanese as you know, but as a country they need to loosen up a bit. Australia is too loose with rules and Japan is too far the other way. I saw Shonen Knife a lot of times in the 90's. Tokyo Nights just sounds like every years Melbourne Cup. People get all glammed up at the start of the day and by the end of it they can hardly scratch themselves. It's very annoying when you have to share public transport with them. I don't care what they play at my funeral....I'll be dead! This took me a few days to watch. It was epic! Cheers....Ben

@@benrankins4446 It’s a monster-long video to be sure. I’ve been trying to shorten my videos. But I figured I’d go all out with the stories for this one. I saw Shonen Knife once. Still have the T-shirt. I lost interest for 20 years or so but I’m back into them again. I really appreciate the detailed comment, Ben. Even if it took you a few days, I’m glad to read your comments on different parts of the video. Man, I started the day with a list of weekend catch-up videos to watch during my commute, and I found I’d already watched three of them! Congratulations on winning Steve’s contest on the second go round!
