I decided to get this Japanese 2 lamp preheat 30w T9 circline fluorescent pendant fixture because I like to enjoy having preheat fluorescent action in the form of a decorative hanging swag lamp fixture and because this type of fluorescent fixture is unique to Japan. Another interesting thing to note about this fixture is that it has a total of 3 “on” settings and features an E12 candelabra base night light lamp socket for use with night light lamps just like you find on many Japanese fluorescent fixtures. On the first “on” setting, both circline fluorescent lamps are illuminated. On the second “on” setting, only one circline fluorescent lamp is illuminated. On the third “on” setting, only the night light lamp is illuminated. For the night light lamp, I used a color changing C7 LED retrofit Christmas lamp so that the fixture can have a soothing color changing effect when it is set to the night light setting. I also used some North American market TCP 30w T9 circline fluorescent lamps to show people that they are the same size as Japanese FCL30 circline lamps that are usually rated for 28w operation whereas older Japanese FCL30 circline lamps are full wattage lamps, but are harder to find than the reduced wattage 28w versions. The ballasts that I used in this fixture to convert it for 120v 60hz operation from 100v 60hz operation for safe use on North American domestic 120v 60hz mains supplies are Advance 28w 2 pin PL preheat CFL ballasts because the Japanese FCL30 circline lamps and the North American 30w T9 circline fluorescent lamps are electrically interchangeable with North American 28w 2 pin PL CFL lamps. I decided to convert this fixture into a swag lamp so that I can use it in my college dorm next semester and in a future house or apartment without having to change a light fixture. Please excuse the loud ballasts. I replaced the original 100v ballasts with 120v ballasts and they naturally sound loud when hooked up to the correct voltage.
