Happy new year friends!! I missed you!! What was the best food you had this holiday season??? To me, it was my mom's homemade KURIKINTON ( chestnuts coated with sweet potato paste)^^ Thanks a lot for watching^^
For me, it was either my mum’s homemade potato casserole called Jansson’s Temptation (a Swedish holiday classic) or the slow-roasted lamb shoulder I had on New Year’s Eve, the meat was so tender and succulent from being cooked on low heat in the oven for 3 hours. I don’t eat meat often, mostly on special occasions.
This meal looks delicious, even the black soup! Being from Texas, I always eat black eyed peas and cabbage with pork for NY dinner. This year I served the black-eyes with ham, cabbage coleslaw, and baked sweet potatoes. Hope your New Year is going well. 🤠🌞
I love Miso. It has such a great umami flavor and is great as a miso soup or even just sneaking a tiny scoop of paste into any soup, curry, or sauce. Especially if I'm making a vegan tofu dish.
I love all of your miso soup recipes! I cannot wait to try this! I just restocked my pantry with black toasted sesame :) my son loves your teriyaki tofu with egg sauce recipe, I made it for him once and will definitely be making it for him again! :)
Hello Mrs Miwa, The soup looked delicious and it must have tasted just as wonderful . The rice seems very nice also, might have to try both ! Wishing you and your family a blessed year .
Oh my, i didn’t know chameshi is tea cook into rice. I absolutely love hojicha. I only buy the Japanese organic premium hojicha karigane & keep it in the freezer. Now i can also cook my rice in it, yay. Thank you so much for this recipe. I’m too lazy to use the mortar to grind my sesame seeds. I got 2 sesame seeds grinder from daiso: 1 for white & another for black.
Hi Ima!! You have 2 grinder??? wow! You must go through lots of sesame seeds!! ^^ I love hojicha too^^ Please enjoy with something savory like pickles would be great to pair with^^
Happy new year! So good to see you back.....it is calming to see you cook... And thanking you for the recipe...I wanna get into the screen and try it 😅
Happy new year!! Hope you enjoyed the new year's holiday at your mom's. The osechi looks delicious! I wish I can enjoy osechi once in Japan, and I probably would order it because making it every year is so much work, I want a break hahaha I mix japanese and dutch traditions. On December 31st we have sweet deep fried dough balls with raisins in it (called oliebollen) and apple dough balls (called appelflappen), both sprinkled with sugar. And traditionally a lot of fire works go of at midnight, for dinner I made a soba dish and on new years just relaxing, bringing osechi to my parents and eating that for dinner (and the left over dough treats throughout the day) black sesame soup sounds delicious, never tried it but will definitely make it soon, since I love sesame. I took a few days of after New year's because I was tired, but getting back into cooking again. We have an type of turnip here but it's sold without the leaves (the leaves are used for animal food and fertilisor for the farm lands), same with daikon. I love hojicha, but never had the rice cooked in it; I had it cha zuke style. I wonder if Saya will eat this. For a more filling sidedish I think it will be great to add harusame to the eggplant dish :)
thank you for sharing your traditional holiday food!! It sound soooo different from what we have here although they sounds amazing!! you know both! haha I don't think Saya will eat the rice since my kids didn't take that! haha To them it was a bit bitter and brand. so ended up sprinkling some furikake... haha
@@MiwasJapaneseCooking Happy new year to you Miwa! 😊 Wishing good luck and prosperity to you and your family! Your videos have been great inspiration for me and have helped me live a healthier life and get in better shape. 😊
Happy new year Miwa to you and your beautiful family ! i had a beautiful red coral lentils soup with coriander and ginger and curry that was so delicious for christmas eve diner that i still remember to this day ! i really like your recipes as always , and i love the eggplants marinated that i ve already tried ( delicious too ! )
The soup you just mentioned sounds amazing!! I've been hooked by lentil, but I don't know what to use other than simple soup. Maybe I can add up more spices just like you mentioned!! ^^ Thank you for sharing ! and also, I'm glad you liked a eggplant salad! ^^
@@MiwasJapaneseCooking Yes you should add curry , coriander and ginger and of course oignons and then you mixed the whole thing to make it smooth and at the end you add a little bit of fresh coriander . Happy new year Miwa
Happy New Year! Thank you for sharing with us! The osechi looked so interesting and delicious. I have never really had any New Year's traditions as my parents divorced when I was young, so every year I would switch parents. However, this year I just spent it with my boyfriend and we made ice cream sundaes at home, which was a really nice way to spend the holiday, smiles!
We made "raclette" with friends here in France. It's not a specific new year food, more like a winter food. It's very filling. It's potatoes and melted cheese called raclette (hence the name) and cold meats. I ate a vegan version of that but I still could barely move afterward.
It's always interesting to know new dish enjoyed in different country!! Thank you very much for sharing!! It sounds amazing!! I should try next time I visit France!^^
You're welcome! Raclette has a strong taste (and smell!) I know a lot of foreigners are bothered by that. But we French people love smelly cheese. This Christmas (I forgot to tell you about it) I couldn't bother cooking, I just wanted to enjoy the meal without the hard work. So I ordered everything, since my family doesn't know how to cook vegan. But really it doesn't compare with home cooked meal. A lot of traditional staple dish for Christmas aren't vegan though. Like foie gras (though now we can find lots of vegan alternatives). Or escargots (snail with herbs butter), shrimps with mayo, oysters, salmon (either whole fish baked of smoked salmon on toasts). And of course a meat dish, often cooked with mushrooms, chestnuts and wine. My favorite part is the dessert. In France we eat "une bûche" (literally "a log"). There's so many kinds of it! The only constant is the shape (like a log). We often buy it at the bakery. Or at the frozen food section of supermarkets. There's basically two kinds: a cake bûche and the frozen bûche. I prefer the last one because after eating so much I'd rather finish the meal with sorbet. Sorry for that long message but I thought you might like me sharing the details since you seem interested.
Hi Miwa! Thank you for the video and I hope you had a very Happy New Year. Just to let you know, when you list the marinade ingredients for the eggplant salad, the rice vinegar is not listed on the screen. You say it but it never appears on the list. Hope you have a good weekend!
Miwa, once you have cooked your rice, how to do store it? When I make white rice I put it in a sealed container in the refrigerator, but it gets hard within a day. Is there a better way to store it?
Hi Laurel. I usually keep individual portions in the freezer when it's still hot. we want to keep the steam , in a way, the rice should stay moist when you reheat it. Steam it or microwave it when I reheat. I keep the rice in the fridge only for making fried rice^^
Привет. У вас очень интересный канал и рецепты, но к сожалению нет перевода субтитров на русский язык. Могли бы вы включить эту опцию? 🙏😘 Было очень здорово.
Great recipes this week! I love hojicha. I get mine from Japan. I just made some hojicha (slightly sweet) bread. It was so moist and delicious! I'm sure the hojicha rice will be good too. 😊 I have been doing a lot of donabe cooking this past year. I love making my rice in it. It would be great if you showed us more meals using your traditional donabe... and yes, we have white turnips in the US. I know Germany and Ireland do too. :)
@@MiwasJapaneseCooking Of course, the kind words myself and others are giving you are well deserved! The hojicha bread recipe is on "Peaceful Cuisine" channel. Can't wait for your hotpot video! Also, I wanted to mention I've tried to go back to your videos to find recipes I wanted to make - and they're really hard to find and remember what is where. It would be very helpful if you could put a list of the names of the recipes in the description box, or title, if it's not too long. This way we could find the video in a search. It would be good because going back knowing you can find a recipe makes us watch the video again - more views for you. 😁
Akemashite omedetto gozaimasu Miwa-san. Nice to see you back. I hope you had a wonderful visit with your parents. I think we all over indulge during the holidays so I’m so glad to have some light and healthy recipes. Tonight I will be making miso soup for myself with tofu, Napa cabbage and wakame. Very simple but makes me happy. My family gathered at my home for New Years Osechi. We always went to my parents home but since they both passed away in 2019, we have it at my home now. I know my parents are pleased we are continuing with tradition. Kio tsukete Miwa-san. 😊🇨🇦
Happy New year Janet-san!! I'm glad to hear that you had family gathering! It must be so much fun! I'm sure your parents was smiling next to you^^ I've making ton of soup as well. haha It just feels good....Stay warm^^
Miwa San! I have never heard of putting black sesame seeds in miso soup but I love the taste of them, so I will have to try it. I also can’t wait to try the eggplant and now I know what I can do with the turnip leaves….thank you! とても美味しそう❣️ by the way, mister donuts is my weakness (and むしぱん too😅)
A very happy, healthy, peaceful & prosperous new year to you & your family Miwa 🙏♥️🕊️( even though it's now August! 😅) I'm addicted to your videos/ cooking since discovering you a few months ago...x
You always make such wonderful food... Do you have any suggestions for dishes with vegetables for picky eaters? I love cooking for my husband and I, but he makes it so frustrating to cook for both of us because he will barely eat the veggies.
So yummy! My family eats pork, greens, black eyed peas and corn bread on New Years. I am in the southern USA. I really want to try that soup. You cant go wrong with miso and toasted sesame!
I can’t see descriptions box anywhere here? Can you introduce the photo of miso , soy sauce, and all the ingredients you use to cook in the video? Thank you!
