Those rest stations are called "michinoeki". They usually have bathrooms, restaurants, tourism information spots and also shops selling local souvenirs and products as they are associated with the local authorities.

13:48 There is and it’s called the parallel mode. You can use it to set parallel networks which is extremely useful. I use it to create harbors with the surface networks

That, or the intersection marking tool (iirc) allows you to place props, trees, or fences on road segments. Haven't used the mod in a bit, but there loads of tutorials online. The benefit there is that the IMT gives you stupid control over precision and where the props go. Also, I don't think it counts to the node limit.
@Crusnik60
@Crusnik60 7 месяцев назад
@@theorixlux That's right, IMT is the best tool for anything that involves making things that follow or line a road: Guardrails, trees, lights, etc... And you're correct, any props or networks applied in IMT do not count toward the game's limits. It also allows for saving presets so you can apply them anywhere in only 2 or 3 clicks. It honestly took me from being in the same "I don't want to keep doing this" boat to being able to whip everything together in such little effort it didn't make sense to not do it. For detailed builds it's a game changer.

Really love how this series is starting! For doing the guardrails you can draw a line with Intersection Marking Tool on the road and add the guardrail as "Decorative Network" on the drop down menu and adjust the Shift value to get the distance from the road you want. It's also huge for saving node counts in the long run for all kinds of fences that sit along roads and paths.

you can use network multitool for parallel guardrails, but some of them are also designed to be used with Intersection Marking Tool, which can be helpful around intersection nodes
@briannem.6787
@briannem.6787 7 месяцев назад
everybody suggests Intersection Marking Tool for guard rails, but as an alternative let me say the parallel mode in Network Multitool is a viable option. Though nodes will need manual fiddling, it gives you a great amount of control over the guardrails, I imagine it'd be harder in network multitool to make the guardrail curve away from the road at the terminations (though probably doable) Back when I last played (a while before CS2 was announced I played CS1 for the last time, because I always had issues with lagginess and errors and I didn't have the energy to go through my asset and mod list for the 20th time to weed out the unnecessary and broken stuff) I only used Intersection Marking Tool for paint and medians and curbs, and I think I was just starting to sometimes use it for streetlamps

4:00 Having lived in Tokyo previously, I can confirm that overhead powerlines are absolutely everywhere that isn't downtown in a major city. This is true for most of Honshu (biggest island) at least. This is basically a bunch of bureaucrats in the 1950s or something decided that overhead was the cheapest option. And because Japan can be especially slow with changing infrastructure at the best of times (and quite a few major players still advocate for the overhead lines), they're still everywhere. TLDR: Japan just looks like that.
@briannem.6787
@briannem.6787 7 месяцев назад
to be fair, it's VERY hard to service underground power lines. Especially the liquid-cooled high voltage ones. Practical Engineering made a video on how ridiculously expensive it was to repair this one powerline in LA I think overhead is usually the way to go for most applications, except in historic and environmental areas of significance The thing that sets Japan apart for me, is how damn tall the powerlines are! And the fact that they make very narrow right-of-way reservations even when the powerlines are built before the suburbs, meaning that later additional lines take very circuitous routes rather than a direct path. I haven't studied Japanese electrical infrastructure too much, but if you want to have a look I'd use openinframap, with google maps open in another tab for satellite and street imagery. That's how I like to study cities.

You’re really capturing the vibe of japanese countryside with this, and also it’s a great reminder as to why I haven’t bought CS2 yet… Until that game allows you to build like this, I don’t want it. Hey, so happy to have found back your channel and that you're doing this series, looks absolutely gorgeous. That interchange looks a bit big to me (I know you wanted it to be) but maybe you could "justify" it by putting a tiny fishing port in Palett Town (nothing fancy just a few piers and boats) especially since you got a natural harbor with a river. Looking forward to the rest !

@JeremyThunder
@JeremyThunder 7 месяцев назад
RE: surface networks I use them when I need to change elevation, for flat areas or areas that can be made flat I use the surfaces. Network limit comes a lot faster than prop, and I can always use PO to reduce that. Plus networks impact performance more, in my experience.

Don't remember how you do it, but there's a way with network multitool that lets you add props and trees (maybe networks but probably not) in a similar way that you add dashed lines with Intersection Marking Tool. Palm'sTime does it a lot in his Japanese series in Okinawa Also do you have any plans for trains or cool stuff like that? Would be awesome to see a Shinkansen here and there, and I'm certain there are the assets for it

I'm not Japanese nor have ever been there, but that large of a building with lots of parking could be a public bathhouse. They have some larger bathhouses called Super Sento that are like tiny water parks. To me, this looks like a good 'third place' in Pallet Town. Home, work, and the bathhouse to relax. Looking forward to Oak's Lab. It would be cool to see lots of walking paths from town to town, through fields and forests, the "Routes" that the player would have been traveling on. Also, traffic flow is probably fine however you do it. Cars are really much of a thing in the games or shows.
