It's a different situation in Britain, and Queen Elizabeth II will not abdicate for three reasons. I'll explain why: Reason 1: Service. In 1947 on her 21st birthday, the then Princess Elizabeth said in a speech that she would "dedicate her whole life, whether it be long or short, to service". She meant every word, and she became the UK's longest serving monarch in 2015. It's her ceremonial duty to be the symbol/face of the nation and to encourage unity and prosperity. Additionally, it's tradition for British monarchs to reign until death, and is often frowned upon if they do, which is why she continues to reign. Reason 2: 1936 Abdication Crisis. The UK actually DID have a monarch abdicate. The Queen's uncle, King Edward VIII, abdicated in 1936 just MONTHS into his reign to marry Wallis Simpson, an American divorcee. This caused a constitutional crisis because Edward was 1) Head of the Church of England, which did not permit divorce and 2) Wallis was a social climber and a twice-divorcee, which was huge scandal to the royal family and the aristocracy. The main reason his abdication caused such a turmoil in british society is because he was abandoning his history, family and tradition all for love, leaving the crown to pass to his younger brother - George VI, the current Queen's father - which caused George VI to develop serious health problems as well as stress, causing him to die very young. The Queen most likely remembers this, as her uncle's abdication indirectly caused her father's death, so for her to abdicate would once more cause an upset and an interruption within the hereditary system that is the monarchy. (Also, Edward VIII was a Nazi sympathiser, often meeting with Hitler. Controversial for obvious reasons) Reason 3: The Prince of Wales. The Queens in Britain's history have all had very controversial heirs -- Elizabeth I's successor, James I and VI, was Scottish and was not trusted by the English parliament. Queen Anne's successor was George I of Hanover, a very distant German relation of hers who spoke no English. Queen Victoria's son, Edward VII, was quite popular, but his notorious affairs stained his reign. You can see the pattern. The Queen has been around for so long that many do not like the idea of Charles suddenly taking over when she is capable of carrying on. Also, Prince Charles' very disastrous marriage to Lady Diana Spencer (and his unfaithfulness by continuing an affair with his mistress DESPITE Diana knowing ) made him extremely unpopular with the British public. Many still do not like him for that, and it's been 30 years. Charles is not liked by the people because he does not live up to the Queen's legacy. I hope this long reply asnwers your point!

Yes a symbol of the country's current philosophy and liberal politics....he basically represents the views of these that really held power in Japanese society,since he is abdicating he is ending a certain era, putting away out dated concepts that might had been associated with Japan during Heisei, and allowing the society to adopt to a different societary model... He is a symbol but a very important one who represents the collective views of the Japanese society, basically its a permission to update the Japanese society.

He was also there to boost morale when the country needed it the most. After the 2011 earthquake, he personally reached out to the victims of the disasters, something that no emperor before him did.
@Xenolar

When he announced his will to abdicate his title, the cabinet was in the attempt to change the constitution. The act effectively refrained the legislation from initiating national referendum for it. Abdication was the tacit disapproval on the amendment. He contributed a lot to represent the nation as symbol as the constitution indicated so. He immediately came to Tohoku when the earthquake hit the area and cheer and pump up survivors. He also bowed to the land indicating what nuclear power plants did to it. In Shōwa era after the war, people’s support on the imperial family was not entirely solid due to the WWII, but Akihito really made it solid showing his strong will to stay with the roles defined in the constitution.

The role of the Emperor of Japan is NOT to be "close to the peoples". What an utter anglo-saxon rubbish! His role is to make the country prosperous and rich. And to represent the national unity. Which the abdicated Emperor superbly do. The Japan became a very, very rich and prosperous country, with amazing infrastructure. What more someone to ask from one monarch?
@racatkns9977
@racatkns9977 5 лет назад
You've actually reversed the roles. His role IS to be close to the people, AND to ensure that the Imperial Family is not out of touch with the modernity of Japan. Consider that his father was seen as a living deity and all of the Emperors before him did barely interacted with the people as a result. Also, it's the government's job to make the country prosperous and rich. Why do you think they're there?
@Panzerino02
@Panzerino02 5 лет назад
@@racatkns9977 To be "close to the peoples" was never be a goal for the Emperor of Japan. The "closeness" create fuss, inefficiency and decay. Her Imperial Highness, Princess Mako of Akishino (眞子内親王) choose for husband a commoner. When he finds him? In the Imperial garden, with the swans? NO- in the real life! In the University. His Imperial Highness Prince Hisahito of Akishino ()悠仁親王) goes to open school (Ochanomizu University Senior High School), outside of the Palace. The Imperial family in Japan live in the real life, and have no need to be "close" to anyone. The Emperor of Japan is a major national figure to unify and to to keep balance between the various political forces. By the Emperor's authority and by the nation's support. By the faith in him like superior force of wisdom of judgement. Sure, this is valid only for the Emperor of Japan. The other European monarchies are no more constructive forces and became a shameful circus of greed, incompetence and indifference. The Japan's emperor family is an example of modesty, and embodiment of tradition and Japanese national virtues and moral. Because of this, the state of Japan is a highly prosperous, very, very rich country, with amazing infrastructure and proud and hardly working peoples. With NO immigration, and no fuss around- quick and effectively governed with iron hand. Apropos, there is red socks in the Japanese parliament, like in the UK house of common? Are you see hooligan behaviour in front of the Emperor of Japan? Look how the Shinzo Abe and his cabinet stood in front of the Emperor!
@Panzerino02
@Panzerino02 5 лет назад
@@racatkns9977 The Japan's political class make everything possible to shield the state from the anglo-saxon economical crooks, wizards, "professors from the Chicago school", and "international bankers". Because of this, there is no "earthquakes" in Japan. Except the physical ones. And no one dare to speculate with the Japanese state bonds. Every single anglo-saxon banking crook look with tear in his eyes to speculate in Tokyo. But NO ONE dare to do this. The Japanese society does not tolerate political clowns, inefficiency, laziness and shameful greed. Mr. Shinzo Abe have an impeccable dressing code, did not have endless private property list, does not expose clown behaviour, do not use a red, yellow, purple socks in public, and do not amuse himself with various "ladies". He works, and the Japanese peoples -too. Hard and efficiently. Simple and plain. Because of this, Japan today is when he is. And Europe and the anglo-saxons are in great and shameful decline (Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland excluded).

Japan Empire? From the point of view of me as a Russian person it's funny because the whole Empire to fit in 1 single Russian region , and in Russia's 85 regions, From the Russian point of view such a small state has no right to claim the title of Empire, well, or to have the Emperor as the nominal head of state, because it insults the Russian people, every little thing has no right to be called an Empire

I will remind you, Japan in the 19th century ran with a bow and arrow, so what are these as you say more than 2000 years of civilizationin this case, I will remind you that the samurai could cut off the head of any farmer to test the sharpness of his katana. In China 2 Japanese officer competed who will kill more Chinese people cutting off heads , both are tired after the murder of 100 people each In China, the Japanese killed about 50 million people, because they considered them on par with animals, This you call civilization, for me it is the barbarians.
