ABOUT MATTHEW CHEN:
Matthew Chen spent a few years in Japan while studying and received guidance from Nagahara of Sailor for the Sailor's specialty nib grinds. During his college student abroad in Japan, met with various “nib doctors” to confirm the efficacy of his nib grinding techniques; among these include Yoshimune-san of Pen and Message and Tsuchida-san of Pilot. Mr. Nagahara Jr. provided him with extensive guidance during the education on grinding the Naginata Togi nib.
Since his return to the United States, Matthew Chen has built a custom machine for nib grinding with the support and guidance of Michael Masuyama. He use the same exact tool setting as Michael Masuyama (which came straight from Sailor factory in Japan where Mr. Masuyama worked for 23 years). The grinding wheel is one of the key elements of the nib grinding and its quality, and Matthew's tools are of pen factory quality.
