We are a very energetic people, we value our time with great joy, I recommend when you come to stay in hostels, through airbnb itself, the chances of you making friends and going out together to do things are almost 100% haha
You should try the yellow line for the next time, is one of the most advanced subway Lines in the world. You really feel into the Future inside that Line, is my favorite one. Great that You went to liberdade( the japanese district) because is my favorite place in São Paulo. And that's show people about How much diversity we Have here. Also we Have security problems for sure, but is not that Big thing that can Make you give UP tô visit the some places as people usually think. Also is awesome that through your way you found out some people who shows How is Brazilian society in general. Happy And generous.
@@GeorgeJapan and the Esmeralda line, follows the edge of the river Pinheiros. not exactly a "beautiful ride" but I believe it's quite interesting for you
Riding the subway listening to Jorge Ben's song is really cool. Congratulations to the old man for the good taste. Thank you George for showing my city at its best.
@@GeorgeJapan I live very near to Saúde station, which is 3 stations before Jabaquara. Check the Yellow line. It's great. I live near some Japanese stores that sell products from Japan, like the Hirota market, wich sells stuff like Japan drinks, bento and some candies. We also have lots of Japanese influence. My kids when they were at school they had some celebrations were they served Yakisoba and some other typical meals. We also have a store called Daiso Japan. They sell Japanese products. A lot of people nearby are from Japanese decent. So we have some business dedicated to have some Japan stuff to prepare meals, rice cookers, etc.
The US infrastructure is bad so subway stations are badly in need of upgrading. And, many cities have poor mass transit systems or none. Thanks for the video! Looks like great coffee too!
Without knowing or even trying, he managed to showcase staples of São Paulo and Brazil. I am in awe. 0:19 State-mandated lojão do brás bag 1:33 A beggar asking for fare money (he possibly didn't notice) 2:49 Any subway car on the blue line being super crowded 3:31 The very talented, but also very illicit subway busker (they have to hide from the guards) and the working class, uninterested in the busker, just trying to get home (or to work) 5:04 One of the chanting beggars who are also not permitted on subway cars and stations, who also have to hide from the guards 6:36 A coffee shop improvised from a garage and the living room of a house, complete with beach chairs and a hand-written sign 7:47 A very nice looking coffee, served on a cheap 0.02 cent disposable plastic cup
I take that same São Paulo's metro line pretty much everyday and I've came across that musician more times than I can count! It was so funny seeing him in your video, what a coincidence!
Hi George! How much I miss São Paulo! When I lived there, there weren't so many lines, I didn't use the subway, I just took a few walks with friends to meet (I lived there between 11~14 yo, I didn't need to use public transport). I'm glad you're having fun. If you stay in Brazil any longer, you'll get chubby, so much delicious food! See ya 😊
I was a street musician as well, I used to play at the Subways, I know this guy you met. It's actually prohibited to play at the trains and stations but the supervision it's not so hard to get over it, and if you get caught playing the security guy will just tell you to get out and you Will have to buy another ticket to get back, and you can get back and play more lol and depending on the security guard sometimes they aprove your Music but they just have to do their work, and sometimes they pretend not to see you because of the cameras
It was not that crowded, at 6 PM it'd have been much worse (Tokyo feelings) 😆 The metro in SP is quite good and as my brother is part of their staff I feel proud you enjoyed it, even though you were riding the oldest line and trains. The café looked cozy and nice, now I want to try that drink too ^ ^
I really like how easy going you are! The vlogs have such a light-hearted and nice feel to it, you're like a character in a videogame exploring side quests, you'll talk to anyone!
Hey George...the metro here is very impressive and very clean. Each station also has artwork, I believe. I do not miss the metro in NYC. I agree....dirty, stinky, gross. But, the SP metro system is also much younger. I love the music on the metro here. It's so cool how you meet people too.
In a matter of age, it would be fair to compare the stations with London, Paris and Moscow maybe. Is the smell caused by bad ventilation due to old designs?
09:23 The dumplings are traditional Argentinian snacks called "EMPANADAS" (they are actually traditional in several countries in South America - but not in Brazil). Our most representative dough snack is called "PASTEL". It is a kind of fried gyooza.
You should also try the brazilian baked ones. They are called "pastel assado". The good ones have a dough that is a little crumbly, looks like pie dough.
@@GeorgeJapan I recommend going to a local street market (feira-livre in Portuguese - ask the locals about it. Every neighborhood has its own on a set day) and look for a PASTEL stall where you can choose a pastel with your favorite filling (cheese, ham, pizza, beef, chicken, palm heart, etc). Beside there will certainly be a CALDO DE CANA stall where you can try the traditional sugar cane juice with a bit of lime.
"that doesn't smell like human trash" George 2022 😂😂😂 the guy with his guitar in the subway is awesome 😁 9:30 I want taste it 🤤🤤🤤 and the "coffe" 🤤🤤🤤 このビデオをどうもありがとう (Sorry my japanese is still in learning so don't be harsh to me please 😂)
Just a thing, here in São Paulo, *you have to include the CPTM lines,* which are considered "metropolitan trains," in the size and number of stations of the metro for many reasons, the simples ones are that they service cities in the "Greater São Paulo" area, and the fact that they are connected just as any metro line. For instance, I live close to the Autódromo de Interlagos, where the train station "Autódromo" is the closest to my home, I take the train there, and it have free passage to the metro in the stations Santo Amaro and Pinheiros. So both systems function as one metropolitan metro system, and the system, meaning size and amount, should be counted as one. And BTW, comparing the SP Metro to Tokyo (or comparing any other metro in the world with Tokyo) is unfair, you guys have the best system in the world, but hey, São Paulo System is great though.
Actually u used the oldest line, the yellow one is a good one for next time, it is a driverless train and u can enjoy some nice areas close to the stations.
i met this same guy playing the guitar 2 months ago in the metro as well, such a fun coincidence, liberdade block is amazing , i lunch there at least once a month, incredible food, i saw your video there and made me very happy you liked the japanese food in sao paulo, loved your videos! :D
I'm impressed by and envious of the São Paulo metro. I wish my local light rail station was like that. Only 14 months after opening, it's dirty, and at least one elevator or escalator is broken at all times. The surrounding street has deteriorated. Trash and graffiti have increased significantly since the station opened. There is no music, no espresso or food cart. There is a little place that serves milk teas and pastries, but there are no vegan options, so I never go there. I looked forward to this station opening for years, but the newness wore off quickly. It is a place to get through on the way to and from work, an unpleasant necessity. Also impressive is Cristina's command of Japanese. That seems rare among American Sansei, so it was surprising to hear.
2:30 The way you rated the smell George nooo 😂😂 AND YOUR FOOTBALL JUGGLING love to see it haha !! If you’re on the lookout for new Japanese inspired/tied locations I recommend Praça do Japão in Curitiba, Paraná (tho it’s far from where you are so just in case you have time) I only once got to pass by there so I unfortunately didn’t explore, but there’s much Japanese landscape and scenery so if you’re ever able to it’s a beautiful place to see 🥰🫂 God Bless, excited for wherever you’re headed next :D !
You have a great energy, I'm going to see your videos in other countries. In Brazil it is not common drink coffee like this we used to drink it warm, sometimes mixed with milk sometimes mixed with sugar and some people prefer it without anything.
Hey G, love your stuff and Japan!! If you are still around São Paulo let me know, I live here and can show you more stuff around. Keep up the good work 🤘🏻
hi George! happy that you liked our metro. it's pretty nice and clean, but needs more stations, specially in the poorer neighborhoods. hope one day we'll get there.
Hi,the subway in São Paulo is very efficient and I particularly think it is safe, the stations that surround Avenida Paulista are generally more modern,I hope you can visit Brazil, and come visit my city, Curitiba
Hey George! Happy you're enjoying your stay here in Brazil. There are some great all you can eat japanese restaurants, for instance, i greatly recommend Mori Ohta Sushi on Dr. Mario Ferraz Street here in São Paulo (there are other units of the same restaurant chain, but i loved this one) it has a similar price range to the one you went in the Liberdade video, but it has a much bigger variety of diferent sushi for you to try, apart from amazing product quality, and you can try as many as you like!
@@GeorgeJapan In Brazil there is a Festival called "Natal Luz" located in the city of Gramado, I'm Brazilian and I've never been there but many say it's an unforgettable experience, if you can go there it would be amazing, Gramado is really different from other Brazilian cities, it's like a Europe inside Brazil. 🥰
My favorite part: "Itadakimaaaaasu! *CRUNCH* I could hear the dumpling screaming. XD Also, I like how you were kicking the soccer ball. Pretty cool! ^^ Also, also, I'm glad you told us what it smells like on the inside of the subway station. I was looking forward to it. XD
very nice, the snacks seems to be delicious Sao Paulo is a fun city, i think you will like to see "Avenida Paulista" / "Paulista Avenue" on sunday, they use to close it for cars and people gather at avenue. Bem-vindo ao Brasil!

Hey George, I came across your channel today and was really amazed by your experience in the city where I was born and raised to. Also, I live nearby the area you went to in this video and I gotta say that apart from Liberdade, the Saúde neighborhood is probably the most culturally Japanese-influenced region in São Paulo, and I find it amazing that we have so many shops that could bring a little bit of your great culture to our daily routine. I hope you can enjoy every minute of your journey into this amazing city!!
And one more thing, I would definitely take someone from outside Brazil to visit the São Paulo municipal market. It is really amazing and has an impressive amount of merchandise...the best Chilean olives and sandwiches...as well as fruits, spices, meat and restaurants.
WUUUT You went to a coffee shop I know! That's so cool also I know your subscriber and the coffee shop owner! XD ahahah what a surprise! Hope you enjoyed yourself there!
I don't know if anyone already mentioned it, but you can also buy a single use ticket on that charging stations. You can select if you want to buy a single ticket or to recharge the card
Brow, u are not so bad playing soccer, so you can visite the São Paulo Stadium(Morumbi). Also u need come to Curitiba City after go to Foz Do iguaçu Falls. Maybe after you can go Balneário Camboriú City(BR Dubai) after go to Florianópolis. If u want a german City go to Blumenau also in Santa Catarina State like Balneário Camboriú and Florianópolis
You should definitely try (but actually make everyday use) of the metro in Rio (assuming you go to Rio de Janeiro) it’s a lot newer and quite impressive. Biggest advice (stay in Ipanema close to the beach preferably but a few blocks further away isn’t bad either)
