Yassas guys from Athens. Just some information on the food Maria sent: "Ampelicious" doesn't mean anything; it's a combination of ampeli (vineyard) and delicious The herb that Satoshi can taste in the dolmades is dill; they also have spring onions in them. You don't necessarily have to heat them up firsf; nobody I know does. The cookies are a type of cookie known as voutimata; they are made to be dunked into coffee, tea or milk whuch is why they're a bit dry. The jam is probably apricot. I'm glad that you enjoyed them.

@@jordan9339 Zdravei neighbor. There are people who also add minced meat but i think that the most popular version is the one without meat. Dolmadakia are also known as sarmadakia here, which sounds a bit more similar to the word you use. By the way, we also have another version of this food but with cabbage leaf instead of vine leaf. In that version we add minced meat more often. Do you have that too?

And the funniest thing is that the things they have tasted are nothing even coming remotely close (because I eat the canned beans when I have literally no time to cook) to the incredibly delicious and utterly diverse food and sweet departments, bakeries and desserts of Greece. Like if you love this already you'll be blown away when traveling in Greece and diving into the culinary heaven that one finds there. If you visit Greece for 1 year and travel around to various places and eat from the Nisiotika, Politiki, Medoniko, Kritiki, Ikarian, Agion Oros, Epirus, Ionian, Corfiot, and many other aspects of Greek cuisine then after that year you'll know what the Greek cuisine really is about. Absolute heaven.

The cookies you tasted are called πτι φουρ (pti fur) and they are not technically of greek origin but rather of french one, so you could say they are a greek rendition of the french "petit four" which means "little oven", and got that name I think because they were cooked in large brick ovens with the remaining heat, after everything else had been baked. They are essentially crumbly, shortbread, buttery cookies with either a layer of jam or chocolate cream sandwiched between them, and then dipped in chocolate only from one side and finally the chocolate part gets covered with either dry coconut or chocolate sprinkles. I'm almost certain that the jam was apricot, as this flavor is almost exclusively used in commercially made and packaged "πτι φουρ" here in Greece.

Long time ago, I was very young, still living with my parents. They were traveling somwhere. I decided to cook something and I get some fresh lamb meat, expecting that there is spinach in the fridge. The frozen "spinach" was frozen grape leaves, but I understand that after I cooked it. We have in Bulgaria also these dolmades-rise with little minced meat in grape leaves. The lamb with grape leaves was surprisingly tasty. It was so funny. My friends liked it a lot also.

Greek food is so delicious! I love dolmas, and I have had the marinated giant beans before. They are so good! Thank you for thinking of me when you saw the photo of the almond blossoms on the chocolate package. It is funny. The squirrels ate most of the almonds on the tree here before they got ripe, but there are still one or two on the tree. I should take another photo for you! They look funny when they are growing. They are green and have a furry skin. I hope you are both doing well this week.

Thank you for trying out traditional Greek food. If you do not mind i have some remarks. First the quality of canned food although good, cannot be compared with homemade (but that is obvious I think). Dolmades (the vine leaves with rise) can be served hot, lukewarm or even cold depending on preference. Also the recipe is very versatile, the grape leaves can be interchanged with soft cabbage leaves, the stuffing may contain ground beef meat, raisins, pine nuts etc depending on availability of products, region, season of year. They are usually accompanied with a mild sour thick sauce made with lemon, hence the acidity. The stuffed tomato and bell pepper may om may not contain ground meat, spices etc They are served hot, with feta cheese and traditional bread (no one can can resist eating only two of them, three is like a minimum number hahaha ) The chocolate is very basic but also quite nice and of great quality. Thank you Maria for sending these, again thank you guys for eating and commenting. We would love you to try the real ones in a taverna by the sea.

"Wine leaves stuffed with rise" - that is leaves from grape + minced meat and rice - the meal is called "SARMI" and it is traditional bulgarian meal that goes perfect with bulgarian yogurt. I am not sure if it comes from Greece but we have it from many centures. Peper with rice and minced meat - i am 100% sure that this does not comes from Greece because the weather there is hot and the peper needs a lot of water - that is traditional bulgarian meal and you can also make it with big fresh tomatos. Sweet in syrup comes from turkey but we have it like traditional in Bulgaria and its called Tolumbichki we also have bulgarian Ohliuv wich taste the same but its like bread with syrup, the flavour is grated lemon rind.

I love the fact that loyal subscribers really would pay to have their favourite RU-vidrs as their actual tour guides! If we ever get to this stage I think we'd really consider being a tour guide if there was demand for it 😁

Guys in the comments, it's really hard or even impossible to send cooked food from Europe to Asia. Sending canned foods was the best option, so please be kind. Yes, eating these foods fresh and made from mama and with feta is the best, but that's all that was possible!!

Put the giant beans on the oven first, if you eat them cold you loose taste, use bread for the sauce and add some fried potatoes. Combine alcohol such as a small glass of raki or ouzo and for the end have a spoon sweet. Thats how you eat giant beans xD
