I'm also learning Japanese by myself at the moment and just stumbled upon your videos. This will be interesting! :) I'm currently learning Hiragana before I move on to Katakana, and then I will start going by the Genki books mixed with other sources. Good luck on your journey!

Just some advice from a 7th year learner. What do you want from Japanese? Establishing clear goals will ensure you don't waste time studying things that aren't relevant to that. I made that mistake and now I know THOUSANDS of words and a lot of kanji that even my Japanese gf doesn't know how to read. I also notice you're doing quite a bit of reps of the same cards, even though you already know the meaning. This will really take a toll on you after months. 13:35 When it comes to kanji, don't worry about remembering the 'type' of reading onyomi or kunyomi; just learn words and learn them in context. The reading will come natural after a while. for example: 「広い」は「ひろい」;「広告」は「こう・こく」;「広範」は「こう・はん」;「広大」は「こう・だい」;「広場」は「ひろ・ば」 notice the pattern and the exceptions? good luck bro

Thanks for your comment and wishes, I also wish you good luck to your and your gf! Later this year I will move to Japan and live together with a Japanese person. They speak English and we can communicate easily in English. My job doesn't involve communicating in Japanese and I could get by without it. The main reasons I am learning is because I will live there and I'd like to be able to make friends and communicate efficiently with everyone. Another reason is that a lot of the hobbies I have involve the Japanese language and a lot of things are still waiting to be discovered, but their locked behind the language barrier. Once I am done with these decks I will mine my own cards via immersive content that I will enjoy and I won't really have a set amount of cards to do, just enjoying the process. I think learning Japanese is a marathon and should be treated as such, avoiding getting burned out, but I am just giving it a running start for a while and then slow down the pace. Of course it will also give me more job opportunities for the future. I was on a trip last year for about a month and I wish I could have spoken more Japanese, then I would have been able to communicate and make more memories.

This really made me think. I can't answer what I want from japanese, I really don't know why I am learning. I told myself I probably wouldn't live in japan because their work culture seems too toxic for me, but I still haven't stopped trying to learn the language. I kinda did, but I always come back to it at some point. I really don't know why.

29:10 your confusion about 決める / 決まる seems to me to come from not yet having internalised the difference between transitive and intransitive verbs (or what are called "other-move" and "self-move" verbs by CureDolly). This will certainly come in time to anyone who sticks to the learning process because there are so many of these verb pairs. Just to name a few (transitive/other-move is on the left, intransitive/self-move on the right): 開ける 開く (with both the あ and the ひら readings for the kanji. Tricky because ひらく can be both) 出す 出る 入れる 入る 消す 消える 聞く 聞こえる 見る 見える 見つける 見つかる 起こす 起きる 下ろす 下りる 閉める 閉まる 止める 止まる This is by no means a comprehensive list, but these are among the first that one will see in that 6k core vocab deck.
@littlepebble
@littlepebble Месяц назад
Thanks for your comment and explanation/examples! I will eventually check CureDolly's video about this topic and hopefully learn more about transitive and intrasitive verbs and better understand them.

How do you study with this deck? Like, you listen to the thing and think about how the kanji - hiragana/katakana looks like then you think about the meaning?
@littlepebble
@littlepebble 21 день назад
Thanks for your comment and question! If you check one of the recent videos you will see how I do this process better. The basic idea of me using Anki is this: 1. Look at the front of the card with Japanese word/text etc. 2. Try to read the sentence / word in Japanese and say the meaning of the word in English. 3. Show the back of the card and check if it's the same. 4. If you are correct then press the "Good" button and if you are not press "Again". Some of the decks I have focus on vocubalary, one is for kanji and one is kinda for listening/grammar. Extra one is just to practice katakana whenever I feel like. The most important with Anki is to do it every day!

Hi there. Do you use any textbook for study? If you do, what book you recommend?
@littlepebble
@littlepebble 4 дня назад
Thanks for your comment and question! To be honest, you don't really need textbooks to learn, but if you enjoy that method the one I've used is called "Japanese From Zero" by George Trombley. The cool thing about that textbook is that you have RU-vid videos for each lesson explained in more detail so you can use both the textbook and videos. George is also a really funny guy and I enjoyed watching some of his stuff. Here's the official website for the book: www.fromzero.com/ Here's George's (the author) YT channel: www.youtube.com/@japanesefromzero I haven't read in a while, but I think if you're an absolute beginner I would say to check it out. There are other textbooks like Genki that everyone uses, but it has its issues. Good luck and don't give up!

How are you liking JFZ
@littlepebble
@littlepebble 26 дней назад
Thanks for your comment! I think it's a good book for beginners. I kinda don't like the hiragana/romaji situation where it's progressively adding and mixing romaji and hiragana, but other than that it's good. I enjoy the video series more than the book and I recommend it. The gentleman that made the book and YT channel is really funny!

This will also contain the link to download the addon. This is from the readme.txt: __________________________ Hello, this is 小石! These are the answer sounds for again and good. Follow these steps to install correctly: 1. Download addon from here: ankiweb.net/shared/info/1167194350 2. After you install this addon you need to find the folder where the addon is installed. It should be somewhere here: \AppData\Roaming\Anki2\addons21\1167194350\user_files\ 3. Put the "again.wav" in the "again" folder \AppData\Roaming\Anki2\addons21\1167194350\user_files\again\ 4. Put the "good.wav" in the "good" folder \AppData\Roaming\Anki2\addons21\1167194350\user_files\good\ __________________________
