I have two Deshojo cuttings in their first year after rooting and growing strong. They are cuttings of trees imported from Korea and Japan. One of them even rooted without rooting hormone, in 1mm pumice and kept in direct sun, but under the canopy of other trees and watered 1-2 times / day in summer
Super helpful information. What is your opinion on grafted Japanese maples for bonsai (besides Arakawa)? Would the bark color and texture eventually blend in? (if there isn't a bulge)
Hey William, After watching your video and looking up some pictures and info online, I believe that I've actually got a Seigen Japanese maple tree growing on it's own, which was probably left there by people that lived in the same house about 7 1/2 years ago. (I moved into this house about 3 1/2 years ago, the owners before me had lived here since the late '20s, so that would explain the situation somewhat.) Can you give me any tips on how to restore a Seigen bonsai tree that's been left to grow on it's own and has developed more of an umbrella type shape? I'd love to restore it to it's old glory but I only have experience with ready-bought indoor bonsai, and I have no reference to what it used to look like, right now it kind of looks like an umbrella-shaped tree. (about 60-70cm high)
+Bacon Muffin Hi there! Not sure if William will see your question here so I'll give it a try. We really need more info on your tree and some photos to help you; please place your question and the photos on our forum on bonsaiempire.com/forum thanks!
