Lovely pick. I'll probably never see this lock IRL but it was wonderful to see it picked and hear about its complexity.

Very interesting, thank you. Have you tried any double sided wafer picks/rakes on these types of locks? Perhaps the ones designed for automotive locks?

Good idea, no I didn’t try that

Reminds me of the old Schlage wafer locks used in the 60s. I think the keyway might even fit the sc6 key blank.

@@LockNoob hype! They're indeed rarely covered, including in Japanese, yet very interesting in how they are just that tiny bit different

Miwa DS is such a fun lock. Funny you had serrated wafers, mine had spooled ones iirc

One man’s serration is another man’s spool 😁

@@LockNoob I had to check, the wafers in mine are just straight. Now I'll be on the lookout for a serrated one, haha

Have you tried removing the snap ring on similar models? That ring appears to be dog-eared precisely where the casing notches are pressed which would mean the lock can be gutted. It appears they extend from the snap ring at 90 and 270 degrees if the pinch gap on the snapring were aligned at 0 or 180, right along with the casing impressions. the dog ears on the ring extending into the cassette and on further into the casing itself effectively locking Casette to casing much like a deadbolt engaged thru door and jamb plates, in this case a dead bolt engaged at opposite ends (90 and 270) or 3 and 9 o'clock. Unless you've seen documentation stating otherwise I believe popping that snap ring out would allow the cassette to rotate within the case to allow it to slide in or out through channels cut along the length of the core if not just allow the core to slide right out immediately. Of course I could be hallucinating the dogears on the snap ring. If you were to use the pliers just to pinch the ring to reveal metal tabs on either side then perhaps I'm correct.. you could do at least that without risking displacing the ring so much that you accidently the whole entire thing;p
