I bought some Japanese Rice paper for calligraphy and thought I might try it out for fountain pens. NOTE: Sumi ink is only used for dip pens or brushes- not for fountain pens!
So interesting. Instant dry time is quite fantastic. The instant bleed-through is not - it is outright obscene. 😀 …But minimal or no feathering (to my eyes) which is just great. And the ink, through all of the writing appears so dynamic and perfectly consistent. Nearly flawless. I reckon I’d happily pay $2 instead of $1.75 for anything I saw and fancied at the Daiso store. I’ve always really loved stationery. More so in recent years than ever before. Kind of you to take the time to share your discovery and experience here. Edit: I’m not even a calligraphy novice.
Hahaha! It is obscene! You should have seen my face when the first ink went ALL the way through! I kinda freaked out. Then, the ink was on my kitchen counter, so it streaked across. I am glad I was wearing a dark shirt. The dry time is very, very interesting - shows you the engineering of the paper. I believe you can write on both sides of the paper. The shiny side is beautiful and smooth to the touch - like Tomoe River. The Medium nibs feel like they are soaking the paper. There was a bit of feathering but the dry time does not allow the inks to do much of that. So, some of these papers are also on the Daiso online store. There are Campus books on there too $1.75... can't beat that!
@@KitchenCounterCrafts ..Cool. I don’t mind the smaller size, A5 or whatever. The price is impossible to ignore for such good paper. . I’m presently so much into stocking up on all the quality paper I fancy and can find - and my known favorites that I fear becoming a border-line paper hoarder soon. 😀 But no, I won’t let that happen.
Thank you for watching! The rice paper is meant to be super absorbent for the Sumi inks but what do you think??? It was cheap at Daiso, so not too expensive for an experiment! I wrote my pen pal a letter on it- wasn’t too terrible!
@KitchenCounterCrafts oooh, thank you for the info! I was wondering if it could handle a little bit of paint. I like the fact that it is so absorbant and you nicely demonstrated that 😃 some sumi ink for sure and a little paint. If say I wanted to add something colourful to the letter or just for fun

@KitchenCounterCrafts sure, thank you for the very interesting video!! 🥰 That was exactly what I needed to watch that day 😃 when it came to the medium I thought about using gansai tambi watercolours and trying some calligraphy with those and for something more precise, just India ink and a nib. I am also tempted to then decorate it with some metallic paints. I wonder how shiny paints would come up on shiny papier. Already looked for the paper on amazon 😁
