There is just something about Japanese authors that I love so much. I can't exactly say what is about the writing styles, but it really is just so lovely.

There's one key 'feature & plot' combo that's appeared in every Murakami book I've read so far: deeply introverted time spent hikikomori fashion in an isolated cabin in a forest, which seems like it's situated in some kind of limbo land cut off from shared reality as we all know it. I wonder if there are any books of his that don't feature a 'Limbo Land Forest Cabin'? And if not, then why was Murakami so fixated on writing about this? There are many authors that seem caught in a micro-psychosis, creatively speaking, unable to get away from certain patterns or themes psychologically or aesthetically. One of my favourites is Richard Yates but I understand the criticisms levelled at him; his work was very repetitious and he seemed to write about the same dynamic, draw the same characters and fixate on the same social phenomena over and over. I understand the criticisms coming from that angle but I still cherish everything he ever wrote. I would like to read more Murakami but the minute a solitary trip to an isolated cabin in a forest comes into the story I will burst out laughing. Great video, please keep uploading. I love to hear other people talk about what they enjoy (and what they do not-- that's juicy and fun too😉😆).🌲🌲🌲🏡🌳🌲🌲🌚

Haruki Murakami writes weird descriptions when it comes to writing women. And as a woman, it is very uncomfortable to read. Read Kafka on the shore and Norwegian Wood and gave up after that.

There's so much regurgitation online of this received opinion about 'Murakami being problematic in his writing about women'. I worry about so many intellectually insecure people accepting these sorts of trendy pre-packaged ideas and verdicts entirely, just because smart-sounding, university educated people say so-- and they all buy into a very particular socio-political/ideological framework and value system for how to interpret and evaluate our species, which I'm mindful and wary of. I wish more people would be strong enough in character to look at things from their own point of view entirely and come up with their own ideas. I'd be thrilled to see more fully engaged people going off-piste, declining to take the temperature of their peer group and instead bravely challenge all this received opinion. Just because many people say something doesn't mean they're correct or morally righteous. I'm clearly in a minority group as I love being challenged by uniquely integrated, well developed thinkers who don't mind transgressing the trendy dogma of the day.
