Pot Noodles used to be strong and flavoursome, but about 15 years ago they removed a lot of stuff like fat and salt then added artificial flavours. I only eat Nissin noodles now, which I think are Japanese 👍
Fkn knew I wasn't imagining shiz! Bombay Badboy used to be spicy ;-; And I swear Chicken n Mushroom, and Beef and Tomato had pieces of chicken n beef in em. Sad times :|... If you don't eat meat... don;t buy things that obv have fkn meat in em. If you don't like spicy.... don't buy spicy things.... fking.... inclusiveness.
I thought this was going to happen from the beginning, these brand noodles are ridiculously weak, I always add only a third of the water they ask you to and eat the noodles much drier, maybe add some soy or vegetable seasoning or something. She was trying to be polite when I knew she was dying inside at how bad these were, lmao.
If anyone had told me I would be entranced by watching a person eat pot noodles before, I would have adjusted their medication. The thing is... The very thing is... Most people doing reaction video's are putting on a public face. You are real and honest, which has me glued.. even though it's pot noodles.
Oh. once I had a Nissin Cheese Curry Cup Noodle, Pot Noodle was never an option. However people who post negative comments about Pot Noodle; Yes folks far from great but you don't sound like you've ever been hungry enough to enjoy one. Believe me there is a tipping point. But for good noodles in the UK. Nissin Soba range. Drain type, a few different flavours, tasty snack. Nissin Cup noodle UK versions are nowt like the Nihon thing. How hungry are you?
I also hate food snobbery. Pot Noodles may not be the best thing in the world but when money is tight, a Pot Noodle and a few slides a bread and it is a meal.
I actually really like the accent. While you can easily tell you're not a native speaker, I can definitely hear some very English sounding words coming through. Now I for one absolutely LOATHE Pot Noodles with all my heart and soul. I wasn't fond on them, but I used to spend a lot of time at a Riding school and the other kids like me used to live on the chicken and mushroom pot noodles in particular. DEAR GOD THE SMELL. It would make me sick to my stomach, even worse when they didn't clean out the rubbish and you'd have day old stale pot noodle smell in the tack room.
Pot noodles are an art form to get right lol, you have to fill them to the line let the noodles absorb the water then top them up a little bit to the line then you have to stir them from the bottom where all the flavour powder is then let them sit then stir again, this is my technique to get a somewhat edible pot noodle lol.
You are right about the amount of water. The directions tell you to put too much in. Bombay Bad Boy is the best one, but does not taste good if you put too much water in. Put enough to make more of a sauce than a soup and it tastes really good. If you have liquid sloshing around the bottom after you finish a pot, then use less water. When you open a pot, tilt and tap it so the stuff inside is at around a 45 degree gradient. Then pour in the water gradually, making sure to soak everything until you see the water level at the very lowest part. That is all you need.
When I was a kid I couldn't even finish a full bombay bad boy I literally don't find it hot at all now as they don't add anywhere near enough in those sachets just enough to give it a little flavour and kick I literally love spicy food so even if its a little it helps clear the sinuses lol
I thought my spice tolerance had gone up as i eat more spicey stuff now, its definitely milder now? My biggest issue with pot noodle is how much noodles are in it seems to vary, I always put less than recommended, but sometimes its not enough, or rather its still not too little, and i need to put in more less water than the already less water.
I buy authentic ramen noodles now although they’re expensive the taste is absolutely amazing. Don’t get me wrong when you are struggling to survive pot noodles or packet noodles fill you up. I also add spices to mine.
A few years ago they reduced the salt content of the pot noodles significantly. It reduced the flavour a lot. :( I always add a splash of 'extra' (normally chilli sauce, but it can be just a sprinkle of salt) to the pot but fill it up with water nearly to the top. I call bombay bad boy: its like pop noodle but this time they added flavour.
In the UK you have to be quite careful in how you read the contents labels. For instance if a product has something "flavour" it just needs to taste of that something and can use artificial flavouring. If it says something "flavoured" then it must contain that something.
@@yugster78 people aren't allergic to milk itself its the lactose which is the sugar in the milk which is why it's important to make sure the milk does not contain any lactose as the body uses lactase to break down that sugar and those allergic don't have enough lactase to break it down and digest it
@@AaronW-ww4ds You're describing lactose intolerance which is completely different to a milk allergy. Lactose is a sugar, but milk allergies are caused by a reaction to milk proteins. Allergies are caused by an inappropriate immune reaction, not an issue with digestion.
@@TessaAvonlea that’s exactly it! Some people always tell me to just have lactose free things, but it doesn’t work that way- My mother secretly tested it on me, and let’s just say that I was almost sent to the hospital… traumatising
After making a Balti Curry using an extra large jar of Balti cooking sauce, i only needed to use half the jar. So i had half a jar left over. So in the fridge it went for a couple of days while i thought of what to do with it. I just happened to see someone trying a spicy noodle soup on TV, and wondered what it would taste like if i added a Chicken and Mushroom Pot Noodle to the microwaved Balti cooking sauce. And i have to say, once both were cooked and mixed together, they tasted absolutely amazing. If you like spicy noodle soup, give it a try guys.
I only ever ate them on camping trips as they were convenient and easy, I've never liked them enough to eat them in day to day life, but I tried a different brand a year or so ago 'ITSU' and they're really delicious, kind of like a gourmet Pot Noodle really, I love the Chilli Miso flavour with rice noodles and now always have one in the cupboard!
When you can't taste the chicken, it reminds me of my father's saying (Australian). He would say "the chicken must have gone through on stilts". As kids we would all laugh & wonder 'what's he talking about'?
😂 I love this... I was walking around the supermark and listening to you in my headphones, people saw me smiling and larghing out loud.... The must of thought I was crazy.... I almost bought the wrong food aswell 😂 your shows make me smile. CHICKEN AND MUSHROOM IS THE Best.... It's only one that comes with soy sause. Xx
i recon its easyer to find pie and mash in kent or essex then london nowdays i got a pie and mash shop near me but u got to wate in a que most of the time to get it i had pie and mash for the frist time sence i the time i left the south northen english food is far better then anything u get down ere but pie and mash is lovely love the way me belly feels after eating it too
its reminiscent of a more innocent time, one of the school meals was "curry" served with rice and chopped fruit. I remember the burning sensation and taste to this day. I would rather eat that than any dish that included brussels sprouts or boiled cabbage any day of the week.
I think pot noodles were invented so that tenagers could prettend to cook something for themselves, with any luck they at least tart them up a bit with real chicken breast peices or something, that's what I did in my tweenage phase.
When I was a kid and these first came out they were a sensation. I remember my mum used to make us one whilst we were watching the incredible hulk ....heaven. I think they only had the chicken and mushroom one to begin with. I could be wrong.
From the brands I've tried so far, western brands of instant noodles tend to be very bland tasting or either mostly salt with not much else. The asian brands I've tried so far have been soooooo much more flavourful.
Haha! I was waiting for her to get to the Bombay Bad Boy... she handled the heat well. Btw, the 'weak' flavour is probably down to the fact they don't use as much salt as in Asian noodles. Its something I noticed in Taiwan🇹🇼 trying many brands, some also from Japan. The UK consumer is quite salt conscious in general.
@@tuc-dh4df Nah, British people add a lot less salt to home cooking in general as well. Restaurants also use a lot less salt. Neither of those has any governance on salt content (excluding fast food chains) so it's not just the governance.
@@ApothecaryTerry I did a vegetarian cookery course in Kerala, with the folks who ran a veggie Indian street food stall that I *really* like, and a recurring theme was them saying "more salt! more salt!" and us saying, "no, that's fine".
Lol whenever I see pot noodle I think of that episode of red dwarf where Dave is stranded and he's going over provisions and he's only got dog food and pot noodle left and he's looking forward to the dog food over pot noodle lol.
Im getting very fed up of people Saying that pot noodles are only for "lazy people" what about MacDonalds and your other fast food take outs as well as restaurants. to me pot noodles are to be enjoyed as a snack but that's my opinion.
Only Pot Noodles I eat are Bombay Bad Boy, Donner Kebab, Chicken & Mushroom and if they aren’t available Original Curry. Although since prices have gone up I only get them when on offer if I’m paying over a pound for instant noodles they’re gonna be ones like IndoMie, Samyang, or Nissin. Originally Chicken and Mushroom came with chicken and Curry came with rice. Also there was more sauce in the little sauce packets.
Mango chutney is a standard sauce in the UK for Indian food, though I've never been offored it in India. It seems to be a genuine Indian chutney, but I have no idea what they really use it for.
Best technique is to fill up to just above noodles. DONT FILL TO THE FILL LINE. Squeese the pot and then push the noodles down and mix in, leave it for AT LEAST 4 minutes. For King pot noodles, throw them in the bin. They dont ad enough powder to accomodate the larger pot size, the taste and consistency is always weaker than a standard pot noodle. Hope this helps.. 😂
When I was working for Fujitsu re-kitting all the PCS in 02 stores, most break rooms didn't have ovens or microwaves. But they all had kettles, so my dinner on those nights was a pot noodle whilst software was downloading.
こんにちは!(I hope that is correct I'm trying to teach myself Japanese) I Love your videos, this one made me laugh as a British person who hates pot noodle and constantly buys Japanese noodles online which I think are always much nicer 😂
こんにちは😆 it's nice to hear you enjoyed my video. Pot Noodles are really mysterious noodles for me, some people really like them but some hate them lol コメントありがとう!
I love the Beef and Tomato Pot Noodle, especially the King Size version, It's even better if you dunk cheese sandwiches in it or cheese on toast. Has to be Cathedral City though.
I dont eat pot noodles anymore because they stopped doing the 2 flavours that I liked. Tony's Donner Kebab flavour and Brazilian BBQ Steak flavour. I loved those.
Pot Noodle They're cheap, they're quick and easy to make. Boil kettle, open pot, pour boiling hot water in, wait for 4min, give up after one min and impatiently start jabbing it with your fork. Then have to wait another few min anyway for it to cool down enough to eat. Optional sauce is optional.
Pot noodles are the emergency food we keep at the back of the cupboard, its not what you want to eat but on those days when you are in a rush or ran out of food, you can pretty much always rely on a pot noodle hiding somewhere at the back, plus point, no washing up..
Here in England it's currently Sunday 17th march 2022 and the time is 2:25am and I am in the kitchen shoving my face with Bombay bad boy and I don't get how people think it's spicy
The way to make Pot Noodles edible is to ignore the instructions & leave them for minimum 30 minutes, preferably 45. Yeah they go coldish but absorb all the liquid, increase like four-fold in size. Just add a bit boiling water & they’re a million times better. Almost like proper noodles. Plus add any other sh*t to improve the flaves .
A while back (it's hard to say when exactly) the recipe changed for Pot Noodles, the change resulted in far less salt, sugar and flavourings like MSG being used. That's why Pot Noodles taste fairly bland today.
how to make a pot noodle coming from a british girl, boil the kettle add the boiling water to the top line not the first line like above it let it sit make sure theres water so there will be juice to make it more flavourable top tip eat it ith a spoon
I had a korean pot noodle and its on a different planet from pot noodles. For a start it was clear noodles with 5 different ingredient packets to mix in. Also cost 4× as much as a pot noodle. Saying that i still like a chicken and mushroom pot noodle.
30 years ago, the only ones of these available was Beef and Tomato and Chicken and Mushroom. Spicy curry came a bit later. I'm not sure when the rest were introduced. Bombay Bad Boy has been around for a while. No idea about the others. I don't think even the old ones use the same recipes these days. I agree, very weak.
In the UK they literally only have a few flavours which the beef and tomato, chow mein , curry , bombay bad boy and chicken and mushroom. The rib one and a few others have either not been about or limited edition and hard to find pot noodles are more of a snack rather than a meal nowhere near enough to fill you up but I bet people literally attempt to call and serve pot noodles as ramen instead of doing it from scratch which is always best when from scratch and for the sticky rib one it is much better when you add teriyaki sauce too it as makes the flavour a lot more stronger
When I have pot noodle I add a microwave pouch of wholegrain rice and mix it up in a pan maybe bit of chopped onion and chilli still cheap slightly healthier and more bulky
I’m bengali so I cringe when people find Bombay Bad Boy lol. I normally add the whole packet and add salt and pepper. And yes Bombay Bad Boy is the best, second would Chow Mein and third is Original Curry. Fourth is Chicken and Mushroom
Those look really dry, I always make my Pot Noodle with plenty of water so there's some sauce to slurp at the end. 😋 Also Thai Green Curry and Chicken Korma are my 2 fav's, difficult to get though as those are the 2 that tend to be always sold out. 😔 Also adding a bit of black pepper to the Beef & Tomato and the Chicken & Mushroom ones really helps bring out the taste. 👍 Also no idea why some people in the comments seem to be up in arms over them being Vegetarian, I noticed the V symbol on them when I was a kid, well over 30+ years ago, they've ALWAYS been vegetarian. 🤪
Eating eight different flavors at the same time is probably not the best way to make an accurate assessment of the different products. The previous flavor is still in the mouth.
They're not meant to be authentic. They are just a quick snack to give you a bit of energy. You can always add a bit of hot pepper sauce or curry powder.
Interesting analysis on why the noodles are short in Pot Noodle, never thought about that. I remember Pot Noodles were sometimes referred to as "pot vomit". What I like about Asian noodles is that certain types you can boil them, discard the water and then mix in the seasoning / oil. Super tasty, especially the garlic ones.
I think sometimes people look down a bit at pot noodles but when your hungry and need a snack they are OK. I agree the flavours can be a bit insipid but as has already been said you can punch it up a bit by adding some soy or chilli.
So I have to agree with you in general. I always add stuff to a pot noodle to make them less weak. Foe example Beef and Tomato I’d add more tomato ketchup, half an oxo cube and some Worcestershire sauce. Defeats the object though of having a meal in a pot. It’s the only one I buy occasionally. I think originally there were few varieties - most of those came later. But the originals (from memory Beef and Tomato/ chicken and mushroom) have been going since the 70s. Back then, you would struggle to find a vegetarian meal/person. So the lack of meaty ingredients is more out of choice from the maker and not today’s society. Saying that, I don’t know if the recipe has changed over the years. Any Japanese noodles you can recommend that can be bought in UK?
Flavoured noodles in a pot to be reconstituted with boiling water was developed in Japan in the aftermath of the Second World War. Convienient and easy to store and transport, then resurected twenty years later as an early time management food food.
Take a trip to the coast and experience Jellied Eels, they are a traditional dish but an acquired taste. My understanding is that Japanese people eat a lot of fish, so Jellied Eels may not look as surprising to you as they do to people from other cultures..... I have American friends who couldn’t believed we ate them. I very much enjoy experiencing your insights into British culture so don’t forget there are traditional dishes from all over the UK: Haggis in Scotland, Laverbread (sea weed) from Wales and Soda bread (actually bread) from Ireland to name but a few. As well as many local dishes from different towns and cities. It looks like you’ve got a lot of eating to do. I look forward to learning more about your experiences, thank you for sharing.
sanxion101 jellied eels are just like stargazy pie. Most British people are vaguely aware of the existence of the dish but pretty much no one has ever even seen it in real life let alone tried it
For the curry noodles yes deffo put less boiled water. Tastes 10x better when you put less water. I was surprised when you said it tasted weak because in my experience it was full of flavour. But again, that’s because I learnt to only put a bit of water
I think its more that, they're out "best option", rather than they're popular. Personally, I prefer the Cup Noodles Soba stuff. My fave was one I got from the world foods section in Tesco. But they're stopped selling it and I have no idea what the brand was.
