Pastors Jared Longshore and Josh Howard discuss the relationship between Covenant and Eschatology, the lost "corporate-ness" of individualistic western Christianity and where that came from, Pentecost and the out pouring of the Spirit, Old Testament saints and the Holy Spirit.

Can someone help me understand how Jared sees that Christ mediated the old covenant? Thinking a lot of scripture but initially Hebrews 8 and 9. And if you have a solution for me, be sure to include how He did this with the blood of bulls and goats, and how he now mediates the new covenant with His blood.

I knew practically nothing about postmil until recently. And there’s a part of me that wants to believe it! I like the thought of an optimistic eschatology. But I have a bit of a strange question, if maybe a postmil brother could answer. The thought that we might be in the early days of the millennium strikes me as strange because it would seem that it is too long a period between the first and second advent. It seems too long to me because it appears that although there’s long stretches of time between visitations of God in biblical history, it seems like a 2 to 3 thousand year wait seems too long compared to other visitations. Like for example, the time gap between the Flood and Babel, and between Babel and Abraham, and then Moses, Elijah, the exile, and eventually Messiah. Though there are long gaps between those visitations of God, none of those gaps are as long as the gap between the first and second advent. And to say nothing of how long the gap would be if we were still as Doug Wilson says, in the “early days” of the church. Idk if my question makes sense!

Bonus question! And again … not necessarily an exegetical matter, but more like an intuition. If we hold to a young earth, and if there is approximately 4k years between Adam and Christ, and if we were to (using our imaginations) postulate human history as lasting a “week”, then hmm… I just kinda answered my own query haha. Maybe one more thousand years doesn’t seem too far fetched 🤔. To sort of complete a “week” of millennia. If you know what I mean.. Again though, my original question still remains. Many more centuries between Christ’s first advent and his second, would seem like too long for another visitation from God…

Perhaps since there were about 4000 years from creation to Christ's first coming, there will be another 4000 years from His first coming to His final coming.

Hi - Psalm 2 says that Christ will be given the nations. "Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession." Soo, Christ will be given the nations, and the ends of the earth, and that must be fulfilled before His second coming. The amount of the nations is all of them "the ends of the earth," the furthest reaches of the earth. To what extent do they need to be converted? Psalm 2 tells us. "Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, And rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him." Soo, nations must become Christianized, have Christian laws, Nations governed by the Ten Commandments. That needs to happed first. So a lot of time needed I would assume but that said, could happen more quickly than we think.

In regards to Isaiah 65, do Post-Millenialists believe that Jesus Will, for lack of a better way of saying it, Be Living in a physical Jerusalem on The New Earth? How about A-Millennialists? Thanks.

No that’s what Premillennialists believe is that Christ will return physically before the millennium and sit on the physical throne of David reigning with geo-political power from physical Jerusalem. Postmillennialists believe that He is sitting on the Davidic throne now (Acts 2:30-31) and that He will reign from heaven until the end of the millennium when He returns for the final day of judgment. Isaiah 65:17-25 is one of my favorite passages in the entirety of scripture, and it starts by speaking of the New Heaven and New Earth, but then it goes on to talk about people dying and having children, which clearly indicates that it is not talking about the eternal state. It wouldn’t make any sense to use imagery of birth and death when there is no such thing in the ultimately consummated Heaven. That passage is speaking of a glorious time in the millennium that we haven’t reached yet. Hope that’s helpful!

@@brittontwood Britton, i thought Post-Mil folk think that they will be living on The New Heavens and New Earth forever. Does Gentry, Wilson, DeMar, Mathison, Durbin etal. believe as you do?
@brittontwood

@@markrademaker5875 generally we believe that we are currently living in the early stages of the NH&NE, but that the fully consummated reality of it will only be realized in the eternal state. Isa 65 makes it clear that people will still be birthing and dying in the NH&NE, so it cannot be reserved only to the eternal state. We’re definitely not to it’s full completion yet and may not be for a long time.

@@brittontwood Britton, if i am hearing you right, you think that Isaiah 65 & 66 and Revelation 21 & 22 are speaking, not of heaven/the eternal state but of the betterness of life in The New Covenant (notice the book of Hebrews), yes? So then, The Millennium is a past event, yes? Maybe God The Spirit Was Using 1,000 in an exaggerated sense to make a point, yes?

After rereading your comment, i think i misunderstood you; correct me if i am wrong. You believe that Jesus is coming back bodily, but in the distant future. He Will Come (1 Thessalonians 4) half way down, the saints living at that time will rise to meet Him then we all come back down to live on the new new earth, right? Will Jesus Be Living on earth then in the eternal state? Thanks.
