Back story: my husband & I grew up together, he had a crush on me but was afraid to ask me out; 20 years later during class reunion research our paths crossed and when he asked me out I said “yes.” Before me he was lonely, even though he dated; he said he’d never marry again, until that God-directed-path-crossing. He always told me he never missed his old life, was never lonely, and got just what he wanted with and in me. I lost the love of my life of 14 years last July 9, 2021 with start of Covid & then his other health issues spiraled. I feel he was speaking to me through this song. Thank you for writing it! This is a difficult & emotional month as my birthday is in two days & then it’s Valentine’s Day & we were apart for both days last year. I’m so glad I heard this today! I (put up with) a narcissistic wife for 32 years and on our 32nd anniversary I was told that she didn’t love me anymore and wanted a divorce. When I finally left my home I told her, you think you’re destroying me but what you’re actually doing is setting me free. I’m a Free Bird now with no one trying to control my every move, and completely away from the verbal abuse and gaslighting that had plagued my life 24/7 for 32 years. I stayed for my 3 boys. They are now 3 grown young men, who are “Southern Gentlemen” with no help from her. Other than my boy’s…. I’ve lived a life of misery thanks to one sub-human demonic narcissist.
