WHY WOULD HE DO THIS??? It doesn't make any sense and it could literally be the downfall of an entire studio... Deviation Games might not survive without him 😨 🥞 Follow Milo here: 🐦 / mrroflwaffles 📸 / milo_bc
My idea, is that Jason was helping Dave set up his own company, amd used Jason's leadership skills, general knowledge, experience, and contacts from the years at Activision. It might have always been Dave's sole company but he needed the help.
I think if that was the case they would have said so though. The lack of any comment is the strangest part to me, and makes me think there was perhaps some bad blood.
that and jason used the opportunity to show treyarch zombies is his child and it wont work without him to better negotiate creative freedom over the gamemode or maybe even a side game coming out in 2023 👀
I mean it worked because it created hype for the studios and the studio have legendary veterans. But at the same time that is such a bitch move and proving gamers should never trust game devs.
He was the glue for zombies, hasn't felt the same without him and definitely not nearly as good, especially vanguard, didn't even wanna buy that one, I hope he comes back and saves my father and i's favorite past time
@@tofalpha8255 bo4 maps had the bo3 effort there. Shame the entire rest of the game was a hunk of dogshit. Probably the worst perk system in any zombies ever. Oh, and they force you to pay $50 to play all the zombie maps. Even tho bo3 you could buy individually.
@@BumpTune8462 absolute facts.not that I didn't enjoy bo4 (even tho I kinda didn't lol) but IX, dead of the night, and ancient evil are definitely my favorite 3 maps for sure
I’m excited to see what he does with Deviation Games but if he basically scraps that and goes back to Treyarch I won’t complain. With a solid couple years to work on zombies (I can’t imagine he’d come back and not) I think he could definitely give zombies a little revive after Vanguard and we’d probably see more Blundell type maps cause I can’t see him coming back and putting up with operators and simple, lifeless (excluding Mauer, but compare something like MOTD to Forsaken), maps. I honestly hope he comes back and really takes CoD 2024 and runs with it. After all, we all know what happens when Blundell gets to make a full game that’s not rushed or heavily scrapped at any point.
Yeah imo Mauer was the only Zombies feeling type map on CW, I thought Firebase Z was alright though, but Mauer was the best by a landslide, and it still yeah little to no character in the map itself, I just liked the layout. Cold War as a whole to me felt lifeless like they made some MP maps, added doors, perks, wallbuys, the box and then added zombies without making it feel zombified. Vanguard suffered from the same thing, but the 2 round based maps to me are almost more fun than anything CW had
If this Microsoft acquisition has Jason come back, I'd have zero complaints. He made one of my favorite Games/Modes of my childhood. So I'd love to see him take back his seat in the zombies team.
@@snorseburger7381 i don’t think that will happen since when microsoft buys a game they usually don’t make it xbox exclusive they just put it on the xbox game pass and most xbox exclusive games are games that are developed by Microsoft like halo
It makes you wonder what direction a game studio can be going if the person whose dream it was left. No hate but I’m not sure it is going the way it should’ve been. But let’s see how good this game is
@@imazombieee8949 although clear that you don't share this opinion I and a large amount of people agree that cold war was a great zombies experience was really fun even the maps were good yeah I know people are going to complain that they use some assets from the campaign and multiplayer like zombies hasn't done that since the beginning and the maps play very differently yeah obviously compared to bo3 and even four it's Easter eggs were lacking and the story definitely could use an improvement but with what we already have heard about zombies in 2024 I have some pretty good faith
@@RaNgErs_Rep I'm playing cold war currently. I don't dis that by any means.ww2 was dope too. I just think blundel was the best at making a community. I miss grief and turned. But cold the wars good af. I just think he woulda made it better !
Zombies has been dead since the end of bo3. That was peak zombies and after that it just changed for the worse. Every thing that made zombies zombies was altered or removed. First of all they need to bring back the old perk system and change the hud back, the new aesthetic completely throws off the zombies experience with the map and everything etc. It feels like special ops , very infinity ward like. They also gotta bring back the old style of play and toss all the objective shit . Bo1 zombies was fire , bo2 was amazing and bo3 picked up on that and overall turned out to be a fun , memorable and one of the best zombies experiences and the last good one. They need to go back to their old system , create a new storyline that’s fire and go from there. I really think the main issue is the new system. The objective shit , and the way the hud looks , the aesthetic is just off . They gotta go back to basics and build from there. Reboot the og storyline or idk
Nah, I think Cold War Zombies is a good starter. They just need to improve some things and that will satisfy the fans. The whole BO3 nostalgia is really annoying.
First off, it's very weird for someone to leave their job or business before it really started. They guy just started a company, only to leave before they even released their first game? That message from their twitter is worded very vaguely as well. I feel like it's probably something personal and i hope he's alright. It's a strange situation, I guess only time will tell if he goes back to zombies. Either way, hope bro is doing well.
If there's no good news available in this case, I would presume Jason leaving is not for a good reason. This is the type of thing that happens when somebody is under contract to not relapse or something similar, and they... well... they break the contract.
Could this just be like a marketing thing? Jason “leaves” studio only to show up to PlayStation showcase and reveal the game after all fans are already talking about the studio and everyone gets a double dose of hype
I suppose anything is possible, but I don't see the value of getting the studio's fans depressed that the face of the company is leaving, only for him to return as planned and get those same fans back to where they were before he left. Why do anything at that point?
@@ATotalDork I don’t really know, Jason has been known to do countless crazy things leading to release, he also just doesn’t strike me as someone who wouldn’t say anything personally on the matter, or that JC wouldn’t be making this video first
@@arctic3415 It's interesting you think he wouldn't say anything, because I have the exact opposite opinion. Jason always struck me as a very private person, so I can totally see him just leaving without much public fanfare. Yes it's a bit of an odd move for someone in his position, but he's a bit of an odd guy. JC's in an entirely different situation since he works for the company, and he may not even be allowed to make a video on the subject, so I'm not worried about that aspect of things
It’s always possible but going that far for a reveal can always leave fans viewing them as untrustworthy…if it is a prank people might not forgive them tbh lol
11:06 I am in such disbelief of this announcement that I think this MIGHT be the case. I am in denial to the point that I am convinced on some level this is a massive jape for the deviation community. That would be a TOTAL Blundell thing to do. Think about it... This draws up a massive amount of media around deviation and gets people talking about it again. The way he left is EXTREMELY vague and ambiguous. He is/was in a position within Deviation to pull this kind of stunt. Technology improvements over the past half decade have made working remote and thus working behind the scene from home or wherever else easier than ever. According to Milo, JC, and anyone else he is crazy passionate about game dev and to literally walk away from a game dev company where you literally have the ability to do nearly anything makes ZERO sense. I don't know, I laughed my ass off when you said this is the new unsolvable Easter Egg because I thought of this and I thought wow that would be funny, creative, and unbelievable as hell. My main confusion with my theory is the payoff. If he is playing Wizard of Oz, how does the company announce his return and when? Why? What has to happen for this ALL to have been worth it. And honestly my lack of an answer to this question cripples my faith in this theory and in the icon that is Blundell. On the other end of the spectrum, if this news is fully legitimate and Jason has dropped this company at the drop of a hat... heck that guy. As someone who has uprooted my life for a job and company that I am excited and passionate about only to have half of the reason I left my previous job AND MOVED ACROSS THE COUNTRY leave me for no explicit reason... To hear this news, breaks my heart for JC and the DOZENS of other gave devs / backend employees that did the same... only to find that a prominent leader dropped them extremely quickly and for unknown and vague reasons is infuriating. If deviation fails because of this decision, Jason would have screwed over ALL those employees that had faith in him and his direction. Or at the very least, they have to be feeling their job security is more in question, AND feeling even more stressed to make this first game a great one despite the odds of this transfer of direction being historically notorious for crippling/ killing games before they even release. All this being said, I await for JC's next video or stream for hopefully some clarification on the matter. My heart goes out to all those employees that are in the same position as JC and I hope this whole situation works out well in the end.
Wow this is so wild, I thought Jason stepping away from treyarch was a step in the right direction so to hear he may be back there before deviation has even put anything out is a bombshell. Feel bad for JC
It must have been pretty severe for him to leave then. I can't imagine him leaving Treyarch to start a company, and leaving said company, to join the one he had previously left. It would make a lot more sense if it was personal issues, or creative differences with Dave or some other entity. Possibly related to the Sony deal? They may have had more involvement than he liked, enough to comprise his vision and leave the studio. The only other thing I can think of, is perhaps he is experiencing a very tragic loss. But I feel that would have been mentioned as well. We can only speculate at this point. It's such a shame, I was thinking about Deviation Games yesterday. But I am in the same boat, I lost a good amount of interest in Deviation Games. This is big loss, a lot of us were onboard because of Jason. I'm more worried now, for the sake of employees and JC.
Yeah I agree with your assessment, it has to be either personal or Sony wanted far too much hands-on control and he couldn't deal with that and left, the creative differences is sorta believable but surely Dave and Jason would have discussed what kinda game they wanted to make before they even founded Deviation Games and would have basically discussed it almost every single day so I don't know if that's it
Remember, in the near future Activision will be owned by Microsoft / Xbox and ran by Phil Spencer. So he wouldn't be going back to the exact same company. Yeah the name is the same but the management is going to be way different with Phil Spencer leading the development.
@@Berryturtle1 but they're in an unprecedented position. There is a very real possibility that CoD will be Xbox exclusive in 3-4 years. Do you think Sony will leave it up to chance and let deviation, their only shot at competing, go off and make a quirky, weird FPS? No way. they'll want a warzone competitor, arcade style gameplay and maps, bombastic action campaign, etc. I could totally see Sony being way more heavy handed with this project than they've ever been. Like their future as a console manufacturer could depend on it.
I feel like Jason has been watching how Zombies has been falling from the sidelines and having been a big part of zombies and it having been a big part of him, he doesn't want to see it fall so shamefully. That could be a reason that the whole "He's returning to Treyarch" theory may go. He may return to try to return Zombies to another golden age. To, as you said, Set the record straight. I know it would hurt me seeing something fall so far from grace that I was apart of and what I had been known for in my history. I would want to fix it too, so I wouldn't blame Jason for this move if it's what his plan is. Edit: I also feel like Jason believes JC is ready to handle Deviation Games which is why he left so abruptly. A way of saying that he has nothing left to teach JC for his role in the gaming industry. Possibly.
@@Bamboozllerr I hope so too. If he is actually in charge, then I still have hype for whatever project they're working on regardless if Jason left or not as JC and Jason both had the same vision for a game. Yes this will be more stressful for JC, but I still have high hopes that he and everyone at Deviation Games will make a banger game.
We don't even know they would want him back plus he wouldn't have his team and everyone who made it fun there cause they may not want to rehire people who left for a different company
Yall know your crazy right. Nothing against JC but he wouldn't be left in charge lol. Your could close your eyes and pick someone with way more experience and education in the gaming field. JC is just starting out. You don't leave a multimillion dollar studio making their first game EVER to a damn near kids on his first rodeo on a project.
dude, imagine all the hard working devs who really make the game possible putting in hours for days weeks months years… to have everyone say “jasons gone, the most important person” plus milo “This makes me less interested in Deviation” dude. the people who are still there working don’t need to hear that, and no one else should be subjected to rude influential comments like that.
Milo is allowed to have his own opinions about the things that have happened. He’s not telling you to lose faith and interest in DG. Losing Blundell just makes everything seem so incredibly odd and super confusing. So of course people in general are going to lose interest
@@voids4818 Yes, it is “odd and confusing”. But Jason didn’t make every game, every map and every mode all alone. It was a Team. A Big Team. A Smart creative and cooperative team. Putting in hard work and effort. I Never said Milo isn’t allowed to have his own Opinion. I simply stated the devs don’t need that. We don’t need that. What? we’re going to give up? not care about Deviation? Say it’s not as interesting anymore? That’s Ridiculous. We haven’t even seen a single frame of the game, not a single pixel has been released and we have Milo and MrDalekJD both saying Deviation isn’t interesting anymore. For Christs Sake, One man doesn’t change that. One man doesn’t hold all the talent in the world. The Designers, Developers, Creative Heads, Managers, Producers and So Much More! Deviation Games is Brand New. This could be something incredible and possibly change the industry of gaming. So Again, i will restate this sentence. “The People Who Are Still Working There, Don’t Need To Hear That” Move on. Jason isn’t your damn step father.
@@cutieapplepie I’m not saying I’m giving up on Deviation Games. Quite the opposite. But to say that losing one of the co founders of the company isn’t a big deal is just wrong. And the devs surely knew that they’d received plenty of mixed emotions and reception from this news. I’m not saying Jason Blundell is the second coming of Christ. And I’m not trying to be negative/rude towards you in anyway. I agree with you on most parts. But the criticism of having the co founder just up and leave with no info is warranted.
For the last year I’ve been telling my wife how I’m excited for deviation and blundells first game. I just found out about this today and I’m literally heartbroken. And honestly pissed
Nah there is zero chance Treyarch would even let him come back, he has failed the higher ups there previously with BO4 and on top of that, fucking LEFT to go FOUND A RIVAL STUDIO. That is a pretty big fuck you to Treyarch. My guess is that he either had a personal falling out with people at Deviation Games or somehow broke a contract and had to leave.
I highly doubt it ,tom Kane has retired due to health issue so no takeo, the story kind of wrote itself into a wall that brining them back would not make sense but also complicate the story and actions of bo3-bo4
@@jackjohnaroni plus story wise them returning would make no sense since the story established that the cycle will exist and return if any of the characters live one can’t exist without the other which means if they return the cycle returns and bo3-cw would be pointless from a story aspect
him going back to treyarch would mean BIG THINGS and would make me super hyped for the game. maybe treyarch offered him a position after all the dust settled and they were smooth sailing for a proper development of a cod game
think about it ABK are gonna be under MS soon and ultimately under Phil Spencer who a lot of devs respect. On top of that he gives his devs creative freedom and what ever funding they need so its a no brainer.
I love that you are still covering these videos. I keep waiting for a gaming experience that hits like the maps and easter eggs did for me in BO3 zombies for sure. Love your new style too, it feels weird to see you with facial hair and luxurious flow but it just works!
Activision financial reports show that there will be a new full COD for 2023, and it will be made by Treyarch. This information came out on Nov 7th. Part of me thinks your theory is correct
Damn not watched your videos since bo3 as I think you went off to university how’s it been going, how’s it been, and man you had a glow up loving the new look and missed your videos milo your a real og 👌🏻🔥🔥👑
Okay hear me out, I'm gonna wear my tinfoil hat right now... I feel like Jason started his own studio, knowing full well he would go back Treyarch at some point.. Therefore making a studio so talented, that he could leave and know everything will be fine. Then zombies would die a slow painful death, and then he could return and make it better again. Side note, NoahJ has been hinting "how crazy it would be to be work at Treyarch" What if Jason is going back to Treyarch and hiring zombie YTouber's and we don't know it yet?! JC even kept himself being hired by Deviation a secret from us for a long time, what if he's in on it aswell?! My mind is boggled from all of the possibilities.. I just hope Jason is well and healthy! 🙏
I don’t think he can return to treyarch simply due to all the social implications with all the people he poached. Right now his old coworkers (still at treyarch) who weren’t offered jobs to go to deviation would hate him since he made their jobs harder forcing them to work with new hires and all the people who he did offer jobs to that left their secure jobs at treyarch because they believed in him probably also hate him and feel betrayed like they were left holding the bag. Idk why Jason left unless he got a better job offer somewhere or there was some real trouble in paradise behind the scenes
@benhain76 no but anyone with common life experience knows this is true... He doesn't need personal knowledge for that. Humans aren't that hard to understand bro.
@@adriangutierrez848 hate him? Lol , the dude is a great guy. I highly doubt they'd hate somebody with as much passion and love for the franchise as Jason
@HR&R 2 not all of them no. Of course there's going to be a handful of logical critcal thinking individuals. Not everyone is a real life NPC. But for the most part this guy is spot on with his thinking.
@@benhain7649 hate might be a strong word but it definitely wouldn’t be a warm welcome. Seeing your old boss who poached all your friends and coworkers show up to be your boss again 3 years later. After dealing with the headaches of Cold War and vanguars zombies development cycles you’d know him leaving played a heavy hand for it being a mess and making your job so much more frustrating and thankless. Also even if you were chill about him taking your longtime coworkers and friends from your dev team now you’d know that all those people who followed him out of treyarch and believed in his vision were abandoned by him immediately for a bag right after getting that sweet sweet Sony $. It would inevitably lead to a toxic work environment with all the longstanding employees who worked with him previously. Doesn’t take a psychologist to figure the social dynamic this would lead to at treyarch with all the remaining old talent that make zombies zombies.
i highly doubt jason would go back to treyarch BUT if he did i would welcome that alot. he had a great vision with what he did with zombies and the state that zombies is currently in, we desperately need someone that leads the zombies team out of this hole they dug for themselves. preferrably someone that appreciates jason blundells vision and understands how many fans liked his approach to zombies. i could see treyarch/activision throwing jason a bone to come back and save zombies but on the other hand i find it kinda weird that he left deviation so quickly. maybe he has family issues, who knows. all i know is that treyarchs next game must be on the same level as at least bocw or im jumping off of this train. edit: now hold up one minute, its time to bring out the tinfoil hats. microsoft aquiring activision was probably planned for quite some time. deviation games having a lot of experience with call of duty games and being ps partnered could mean they are working on something to replace call of duty once it leaves playstation (apparently it does from what ive heard). this is high level conspiracy stuff right here so dont quote me on this but it could indeed be in the realm of possibilities. they probably got a lot of funding from playstation as well i assume.
This is surprising. But given Jason isn’t the sort of dev to live tweet every waking moment of his life? It’s hard to tell. I imagine it had to have been a creative or personal/family issue that he made him decide to leave. Given Zombies direction with Cold War and Vanguard? I don’t see him bailing on his company to return. Then again wha if he feels like there’s unfinished business & that he could leverage his experience and reception towards recent games to settle old scores. Who knows. I gotta agree though losing Jason has he significantly less interested in Deviation’s upcoming game. My hope is enough talented people are there to capture the spirit of what he would’ve gone for.
The fact that all those veterans have left Treyarch is a HUGE thing. A studio can have the same name, but if the same talent is not present, we can’t expect the studio to deliver similar games like in the past. Treyarch truly is just a shell of it’s former self.
This could explain why treyarch included the CHOAS storyline relating to the Dark Ether storyline, he could be working his way back in and eventually continuing choas story and give it a proper bow tie. This could have been in the works over the life cycle of vanguard and could be why they never tried to make a great map but yet really put forth alot of EFFORT in making Shi no Numa the best they could( which is Jason's first zombies map he helped with back in '09)
It’s just an ee it doesn’t mean it’s returning, keep in mind they have to wrap up the story in order to bring it back and also people hated two stories in one game, since the next tittle is a cw sequel it really wouldn’t working
I agree with what you said at the end of the video. I wish Jason and Deviation the best, but unfortunately this shakes my confidence in Deviation. Because this is like when a movie keeps getting new directors, but it could still end up being a good movie though. The main reason I was excited was because of Jason. I don’t know what kind of game they are working on. It’s just that I was hoping it would be the best parts of CoD zombies, but without compromising on the atmosphere for the sake of selling a Snoop Dogg skin that’s playable in zombies.
Am I the only one considering that this all could just be one big troll by Jason leading up to some sort of announcement considering Jasons trolling past?
What can often happen with acquisitions in the gaming industry is higher ups and founders get offered retirement packages before a deal goes through not saying this is happening but if Sony does buy them it could be they offered him a retirement package and he wanted a break from game developement
The fact is we all started out as someone's little angel, then a place like this forces us to become warriors or victims, nothing in between can exist here, and you've chosen to become a warrior, now it's up to you to remain one...
I’d bet my entire life savings that this is not the case. We don’t even know what’s going on with Blundell 95% of the time, so he could just be moving on from game development entirely. Man is more cryptic than the cyphers he put in the zombies maps.
Ok, so I saw this video and thought "Milo, you're clickbaiting now? :(" but holy, I didn't expect that, it's plausible, but I still have my doubts, whatever happens, I wish Jason Blundell the best, whether it's with CoD Zombies or a future project he participates in.
This is a really well made video abiut this subject regardless of you thinking if everything said in the video is right or wrong. Even milo told a few words from JC about what he feels. This is just so puzzling.
Theory: Activision finally realised what a flop vanguard zombies was so they contacted Blundell with a massive paycheck to come back and make zombies great again.
@@JulioHernandez-vi9to I mean yeah it was full of weird random shit and time travel crap, but that's what makes it cool in a way. I guess I just love the characters more than anything
I don’t mean to sound naive, but I still have some faith in Deviation Games. I have no idea why he’d leave. But I would assume that someone as ambitious as Blundell wouldn’t leave it to flop. Also, I have no idea what their game is going to be. No news, no trailers, no teasers, no announcements, no nothing. But the power behind it is still remarkable. And the fact that JC is sticking around shows faith on his part, which makes me excited. Whatever the move, I await eagerly.
@MrRoflWaffles Waht is Jason is playing 4D chess all along, he knew that activision cares about the latest trends, so what if he went out made the competition (in Deviation games) who would make a zombies like expereince that would hit big, only to go back to treyarch knowing that if the trend of a zombies like experience takes off, Activision wants to have a share of that pie like how they did with the Battle Royal genre. Of course this is me with some fun speculation, but this is really odd i do hope deviation games project will be good and hope Jason does something big but not sure why he has left.
@@JulioHernandez-vi9to no way they pulled out everyone is hyped for the acquisition if they pull out there will be a major downward spiral in xbox sales, im only rushing to upgrade because of how excited i am for the Bethesda, activation acquisition.
Isn't this guy the person who gave us the bangers such as mob of the dead and origins on bo2? If so, it would be real hype if he returns and puts the zombies gamemode back in its place..

In my opinion him being burned out would be the easiest and most logical reason. Being under Activision under all this time must've been so exhausting, especially if he ended up leaving due to them not listening. Then co funding a entire studio off the ground in only 1 year. Everyone would be burned out. I just wish the best for Jason.
