All the "KNOWLEDGE" and Fujifilm Medium Format Equipment WILL NOT help you create a flattering artistic portrait. There are WAY TOO MANY photographers on RU-vid with "technical knowhow" and absolutely no sense of ACTUALLY capturing anything useful. . I have listened to Ken for YEARS, babble on about EVERY OTHER photographer and how they suck.....and he got EXACTLY what he deserved in that video of him and his garbage photography.
I like his videos but he isn't that skilled of a photographer. Great guy, some of his videos are more informative than any other video you can find on the internet regarding technical abilities of digital imaging. He used to praise nikon and now doesn't even talk about them, Fuji and Nikon are great cameras, I've had both for years. Some videos, you just have to take with a grain of salt.

Ken was/is a Sony hater. Seems to be that Jason was sent out to "assasinate" Ken's credibility by creating a situation that isn't something Ken normally does. Jason tried to pretend he is a Chad contrasting that with an awkward Ken. I'll bet if Ken had an afternoon all alone with that model and was allowed to plan out the venue and conditions, you would see much different results. For me Ken is a genuine and honest bloke, while Jason is a lying/cheating gear peddler. I had seen few videos by Jason and wasn't impressed.
He has really bad social skills and possibly a disability but he does have a high IQ. Not sure if he’s deceptive or not. I don’t think he does a lot of photography but he does a lot of reading and writing.
@@elwelkin Have you read any of the books he has written? You must only know him for his Fuji lens reviews. He makes a lot of content about religion, philosophy and Quantum physics. Just listen to his vocabulary and how fast he speaks. It's very hard for a man with a low IQ to have a large vocabulary and use the words in the correct context without slowing down. He defiantly has some social problems but alone he can speak effortlessly. Jason is definitely a way better photography but he's a simple minded man. He focuses on photography and RU-vid.

I'm not a big fan of his but it's obvious he's a deep thinker with his content on metaphysics and Quantum theory. it's not easy to explain string theory. Well a lot of Christian pastors have high IQ's but some have low IQ's. Look at C.S. Lewis. There's very few professors today who could compare to his intellect. Even atheist like Christopher Hitchens will admit to that. Being a Christian doesn't make someone unintelligent. Albert Einstein, Nicola Tesla, Elon Musk and a huge number of scientists in many fields today believe in some kind of God.
When I started shooting I watched all of Jason's videos and modeled my style after his. I even did his advanced lighting workshop. I paid a lot of money to learn that I already had everything I needed to succeed except confidence. So I guess I learned something. I've since outgrown Jason's style but kept to heart something he said. You have to strive to be an "All Light Photographer." Which means knowing how to get the best possible shot in any situation with what you have available. Ken has no idea how to use any form of lighting. He might have gotten lucky with some "okay" shots, but nothing that could be considered good. I guess that's why he steals other photographers work.
It's not that he's a bad photographer, it's that he lied about ever being a photographer. He's a self declared world leading expert in lenses but doesn't know how to use them. He's a gear collector that fantasises about being a photographer. I was too manipulated into thinking he had credibility, just because he had a large number of lenses. For all I know he can just be running a used camera store. I bought lenses having being convinced I needed it, only be told the next day that another lens that serves the exact same purpose is also a "must" own lens. While none of the lenses I purchased based on his recommendations are bad, I have ended spending thousands of dollars on equipment that's really for professionals that make an income from photography, not an amateur that does photography for enjoyment and makes no money from it. But that's on me for being so easily manipulated. However, him plagiarising the work of others is evidence that for the 10s of thousands of dollars he's spent on photography equipment he doesn't have a single photograph of his own worthy of printing off. That's a bigger embarrassment than me being fooled by this guy.
Angry photographers videos are good if you want to know specs about different product but OMG he can’t take a picture worth sh!t! Why would he agree to go against Jason? Jason will destroy him every time!
I remember this. If I remember correctly Ken said in a video he posted after this that he was purposely over exposing his shots to see if he could recover the highlights. You mentioned that you watch all of his videos, so do you know which video I'm talking about? I used to watch most of his videos, but had to stop when he started ranting about 5g and other non photography related stuff. I still tune in occasionally and his old videos were pure gold. I'm glad you didn't make a negative video about him. Jason on the other hand always makes me feel uncomfortable.
I have to laugh at anyone sticking up for a moron who is totally clueless about capturing images and buying his BS about deliberately blowing out almost every shot to see if he could recover the highlights in post. I love Ken but Jason showed that he is a way way way way way better photographer. But I can watch Kens videos more because I think he is more interesting to watch
Obviously Ken is not a good photographer but he knows the technical aspects of gear. I personally dislike Lanier's persona and his heavy handed editing style in post, but he obviously knows how to produce great compositions lit well. Ultimately, where there is smoke, there's fire and Lanier has way too many accusers for a reason.
Ken's shots are terrible, but like you I do enjoy his content quite a bit for both the technical aspects and entertainment. I particularly learned a lot about microcontrast through his videos.
Yeah, it was pretty wild. There’s way more to the story. Like a year after that shoot I think like 4 or 5 or more of the models including the one in this shoot made videos about Jason sexually harassing them. The fact that Ken called him out on his behavior and exposed him months if not years before all the girls made Their video confessions incensed Jason and that was the entire reason he set that “shootout” up. Ken’s product shots are Ace, it would be great if would teach classes on that. I definitely think his product Shooting people under like high noon bright sun with virtually no clouds can really be the pitts. It’s wild this came back up now even like 4 months ago.
@@Imhotep397 There's a video out, I'm about to watch it, saying Jason was pretty much exonerated of all charges. I have no idea if the title is accurate or not. Regardless of Jason's innocence or guilt, Ken is a phony and a fraud, constantly crying poor and begging for donations, to then boast about his new $5000 camera, $10,000 camera, $3000 lens, blah blah blah in his next video. Using another photographer's images, cutting off the name and logo and claiming they're his. Pretending he was a photographer for years when he clearly never has been. He's a bitter failure, jealous of real photographers and this challenge came about due to Ken constantly claiming Sony cameras are garbage. Jason called him out and said, OK, I challenge you to a shoot-out. I bet I can capture better images on my Sony gear than you can on any gear you like. He won the challenge hands-down, as Ken hasn't got a clue about photography.

When he did what he did to Lanier I cut all ties, he is a liar and a conman who's sole purpose is to fleece folks for money. Ken was also very jealous of Lanier and several other prominent youtubers. I have emails from Ken labeling Matt Granger as a sex offender, I looked into this claim and told Ken it is not true but he continued to make innuendos on livestream's against Granger. I was a criminal investigator for 30 years in the NYPD, I found Ken amusing but he is full of BS on all of his pseudo science assertions. I showed his books to 2 prominent PHD's and they just laughed. Ken has a very dark side and the persona on tube you is an act.

Ken talked shi= about Jason,and then when they met,he was meek..that's called FAKE...Then after the shoot when the scandal started about Jason and the models, Ken was back at it, backstabbing Jason..After that i watched a bit of his stuff but I never had the same respect for Ken..Then again,some of these content creators talk a LOT of shi- if you do not agree with them and even make threats, yet they damn sure do not follow up...
There’s something off about this whole thing.I don’t understand the point of this video or of the actual photo shoot. Ken is an extremely intelligent and insightful person and a good person.I highly recommend people watch Theoria Apophosis youtube channel. Why is it fair to expect him to produce professional portrait photographs or behave like a professional portrait photographer when it’s clearly outside his comfort zone? I don’t know why he went out and did this,maybe just for fun I guess? What exactly is the point of comparing and analysing these people?
I mean he definitely could have taken good photos with the wide... It's 25-50 equiv... The problem I saw with his photos was that he was strained to much from holding the GFX with 1 hand that he could not focus on composition or framing.
BS. I've done shots holding my a7iii with the Tamron 35-150mm in one hand or a6000 with Sigma 18-35mm , and holding a flash with the other hand and gotten great shots.
The difference in out put shows Jason to be a photographer. Who goes to a portrait shoot with one lens a wide angle at that. Shows ken has no clue. His photos were horrid too.
When the background doesn’t help you, you get rid of it by blurring it. The 90mm Fuji lense for the x line of cameras would have done a lot better than his overpriced set up
I love ken and while his technical understand is great, he suffers with creative elements and interpersonal skills. Jason’s videos these days are all about shilling out rotolights. I can watch kens videos for what they are, technical. I cannot watch Jason’s because he is cringe. Photos and content is fine but his attitude is cringe
They're not even technical. He probably just reads something and then makes a video. He doesn't even have the skills to demonstrate anything in the real world.
Ken is a very intelligent guy and definitely knows gear. I haven't seen much photography from him that really dazzled me. But on the quantum physics end.. I very much enjoy his lecture vids. I assume he is incredibly socially awkward especially with women based on any vid I've seen with him. He could change that. Jason Lanier definitely has an over the top style charm. I often enjoy his style of images. Exposing for the details of the sky while using my light to illuminate the subject. I've used ND's to compensate when it was bright and my light didn't have enough power to do what I need in HSS.
Ken is extremely intelligent and on the ball and puts huge thought and depth into his videos and all you can do is point your finger and laugh like Nelson in the Simpsons.

Well, ken could not bring a xt4 because at that time the video was made not even a xt3 was out🤣🤣🤣 it was xt2-times... but he could have brought that but he love to show off with the brand new Medium format that day. He is a bad photographer, but he knows a shitload about lenses and gear... Jason probably dont... next video they should compeed in a theoretical subject like lenses... Jason loose then big time...
Jason is not going around boasting he's an expert in quantum physics or whatever else Ken claims he's an expert at. Why would he want to compete in that??
