His wife should stay out of it then. At best she looks like a Yoko and at worst she’s stirring shit between guys that have been through enough shit already.
Oh and just for those curious about what could've been - the 1986 European tour had James, Kirk and Cliff at wits end with Lars and the plan was to fire him (or rather, form a new band without him) and try steal Dave Lombardo. Gene Hoglan was Dave's drum tech and very well could've become Slayer's replacement. The plan was abandoned after Cliff died, but then a potential plan was to try and poach Ellefson away from Dave.
Being able to play an instrument and putting in a sufficiently energetic 'stage performance' are two different things. I'm sure he could record studio bass, and perform live if seated. I just don't think he would want to bring that kind of stage presence now when we know how much of an energetic stage presence he once had.
Honestly the fact Junior has been able to deal with Dave for over 40 years is a testament to Junior, not Dave. Every single band member Dave has ever had has either quit, been fired or fired him. Everyone loves Junior, he goes around collabing with all sorts of musicians all the time, the same can't be said for Dave. Dave is the stereotypical mad genius. He's impossible to get along with, but produces some brilliant work.
@@F13thvoorhees I was saying no single person in Dave's life, aside from his sister, has put up with him this long, including his own wife, who was going to divorce him a decade ago.
Claypool is so far beyond Megadeth (or Metallica) why would he? What he needs to to is get the "farewell to Kings" Rush cover tour that was cancelled due to COVID going again.
I love Jason, he's quite literally my favorite bassist. That said, if the man says he can't play Metallica anymore, then he can't play Megadeth either. It's that simple. Would I love to see him join Megadeth? Of course! But I also know that it won't happen.
Jason has stated that he no longer has the physicality to play Metallica. And if he can't play Metallica anymore, then he can't play Megadeth. No disrespect to Jason intended. I'm just calling it like I see it. I honestly think Rex Brown would definitely be the best choice.
Actually he can play megadeth, is not like is that hard, metallica demands more as far of showmanship. Ellefson used to just stand there. But im glad jason is not joining megadeth.
If it were me and I had the chance to be one of three people that have been in multiple thrash metal bands across the entire scene I'd f****** do it I don't care what I was capable of
Megadeth has the most statuesque stage presence of any major heavy metal band, so playing in ‘deth would be nothing. Jason saying that he doesn’t have the physicality to play Metallica is it the same thing as saying that he doesn’t have the same physicality to play in Megadeth. If you want to see what’s expected of a Metallica bassist during live performance, watch Rob Trujillo on stage or look at some of Jason’s glory days with the band.
I'm sure Megadeth knows enough artists and has toured with enough bands to be able to find a bassist easily or even just a fill in for tours. It's to bad they don't hold auditions
There will always be a long line of talented people itching to play for a band the magnitude of Megadeth. Dave will have plenty to choose from for sure.
@@eyellgeteven9928 not necessarily, bc Mustaine is also weighing their obedience. Megadeth isn’t a group, Megadeth is Dave Mustaine, for better or worse
@@kidder83 The fact remains that there are a huge number of great musicians that would jump at the chance to play for Dave...regardless of what his criteria for choosing a new member is. He will have a lot to choose from with little doubt, and he can decide what and who he wants. I don't really know how what I said is any different from what you are saying.
LOMENZO has evolved into ELLEFSON ELLEFSON learned banana stroke! ELLEFSON already knows four moves, forget one to make room? ELLEFSON forgot reputation and learned banana stroke!
It wouldn't be a great thing at all, even if he could still play. Dave is a diva, always has been. There's a reason why he's had what feels like dozens of people in his band over time. The reason is him. Jason would not be happy playing Megadeth, and I doubt if he even joined, that he'd put up with Dave for too long.
Much like wrestlers continuing to sign with WWE, in spite of all the horror stories about how garbage they treat so many of their talent, you'd be surprised just how many, especially younger musicians would love to work with someone like Dave, and play in a big (and more importantly big PAYING) act like Megadeth. Either because they are willing to put up with Dave's BS to get that pay and that spotlight, or because, like I'm sure many wrestlers tell themselves about WWE, "Oh it'll be different for me".
Sepultura hasn't even had that many people leave the band. The core of Andreas, Paulo, and Derrick has been intact since 1996/97. There have been a lot of bands that have had WAY more lineup turnover than Sepultura.
I wouldn't waste 1 dollar to see Megadeth live. Dont get me wrong, I love that band. But I cant stand the constant line-up changes. And on top of that......Dave's voice is horrible nowadays. I'm not a hater; just a realist. And I believe in loyalty. Elefson did nothing wrong imo. Dave is just a drama-queen imo.
I can't wait to see them. He lucked out and has the best lineup since the classic albums. Dirk and Kiko are both top notch and both complete class acts. Have seen them perform and have met them both several times. If the next bassist matches the level of musicianship of Kiko and Dirk, then be ready for something magical.
The chick who Ellefson was web-camming with is most likely the person who recorded and posted the video in hopes of extorting money from him - that's probably why she "pursued him" (as she admitted in a statement).
I agree.. No matter what occurred its not right to Dave ..the woman was wrong to record. I just hope he learned a lesson and him and his wife and family can work it out .
It's super lame. Mustaine might have been a drunk and violent but Ellefson is being accused of being a pedo. That is TOTALLY past the line. AT BEST Ellefson is a Pastor (or studying to be one) who committed adultery with someone who is the age of his children. That's WAY WORSE than being a drunk who wrote half your record.
@@ObsidianLife that's kinda what I thought & there may be more to come if this is some weird, chronic behavior he's into that we don't know about yet. I hope not, & I feel for his wife & kids b/c that's some embarrassing shit! Why doesn't he just jerk it to pornhub like th rest of th world & not fkn record it!😖🍻
Jason destroyed his body playing heavy music. Id be surprised if jason goes to megadeth, considering all the surgeries and damages he's accumulated over the years, but damn if he did go to megadeth i'd definitely check it out
@@PinkJuice. So many "metalheads" still dont know that lol. But hey it is post 2020 so Les joining Megageth would almost make this twisted reality complete, and I for one would WELCOME IT!!!!
That would be a bad idea. Les would be turned into Rob Trujillo (another extremely gifted bassist), severely limiting his creativity and technical prowess. The backing vocals would be hilarious though. Dave's blown out, cartoon whine and Les' crazy vocals.
Not quite sure why all these people kept mentioning Jason's name in the first place? It was laughable. First, Jason said he can't play that kind of music anymore. Don't people listen? Second, even if he could, he never would have joined Megadeth. People live in dream and fantasy world. Clean out your ears and welcome to reality.
Sort of sucks how they let go of Dave after all them years. The kind of music Megadeth plays requires tight playing with the Bass being played with a pick locking in with the lighting fast grooves
Man, Newstead's Heavy Metal Music was underrated. I bet he could add something here and there to Megadeth, if Dave would let him. Oh well, they'll probably get that Latino kid who played with Suicidal Tendencies and Black Label Society.
Why are famous bands always selecting famous musicians for cooperation? It doesn´t make sense...this band could select RU-vid Bass Cover versions and recognize there are some really authentic people outside the metal mainstream who could fit in the band very well.
Newsted does have an official youtube account, though. He even posts random casual videos of him playing bass, now and then. Not just the "professional" stuff.
In a way, it would be so perfect and full circle if Jason joined Megadeth but I think he’s over it and not in that head space anymore, physically or mentally. He took his millions and did the smart thing and took an early retirement. In fact, I respect him because he’s already been to the absolute TOP of the mountain and he’s never felt the need to compete against what he achieved in Metallica. But I do wonder if the possibility has crossed his mind as far as Megadeth? If nothing else, it would be cool to see him in Flotsam and Jetsam again!
Meh, we're talking about men in their soon-to-be sixties. The energy it takes to start all over while having to do the tedious band practice with everything/everyone new, is just not worth it to be pulled from retirement for many. As with most things in today's world-- it's a young man's game, imo.
1. Dave Mustaine was wrong for firing "Junior". It's pretty apparent that whatever went down, was Ellefson's private business, completely legal and consensual, that no one had any business knowing about. It wasn't "grooming" or whatever stupid shit has been said. Dave knee-jerk reacted, as most in these sad times seem to be conditioned to, and his wording about an "already strained relationship" makes me feel that he and "Junior" weren't getting along too great, and he was just looking for a big enough excuse to fire the poor guy. Pure and simple. And for a good "Christian" man, who believes in not casting the first stone etc., don't even try to tell me that Dave didn't have his share of (many likely underage) groupies in his day, in the 80s, out of his mind on drugs and booze. He knows he did. WE know he did. Yet he fires "Junior" over something like that. Good grief, talk about hypocrisy. 2. BEYOND the fact that Jason has gone on record recently saying that he "can't" play fast thrash type metal music anymore, which is why he doesn't, because of his injuries and surgeries...why in the HELL would he choose to play for Megadeth, of all bands? Dave Mustaine is a great, even brilliant musician. But he's also more than a bit of a prick, and a major control freak. If this weren't true, Megadeth wouldn't have had the revolving door of musicians in the band it's had over the years. Dave seems to eventually have a problem with everybody, or everyone eventually seems to develop an issue with Dave (IE get tired of his crap). The common denominator has always been Dave himself. He's a control freak, and he's hard to get along with. So WHY, if Jason could even PLAY thrash anymore, would he choose to subject himself to "Master and Commander" Dave Mustaine? I don't think he would put up with Dave's shit for even half a second. Jason has made his money, he's played his shows and made his albums. The dude is at peace with what he can and can't do anymore, and where he's at in his life. Would it be great to see him be able to play thrash again? 100%. But I wouldn't wish for him to have to put up with Dave's drama, and I don't believe for a second he would want to either.
Dude in some of these pictures, mustaine looks like Steven tyler with those pouty lips 😂 Not sure why ellefson was fired. I get that it looks bad, but last time I checked, people are supposed to be presumed innocent unless proven guilty. On the newsted topic, am I the only person who thinks there is a remote possibility that jason could be bluffing? Saying hes not up to it so that, lets say he does join Megadeth, it will hit that much harder when people find out. Idk, that's what I might do but who knows.
My first choices and think would be the best fit would be Steve DiGiorgio or Felipe Andreoli. Felipe is an insane bassist and has worked years in the past with Kiko. Steve is without question an insane bassist and has done a lot of different albums of various projects with Dirk. Two bassists with good chemistry with an existing member, no doubt easy choices. Both can play the Megadeth material in their sleep and they are both very passionate players and great performers.
Either way you’d never hear his bass anyways lol I know it’s not on the table but Les Claypool doing a tour in Megadeth would be dope. Two masters of their craft jamming together.
As for the whole "no warning, no second chance", we have no idea what chance this was for Ellefson. It likely was not the first offense by Mustaine when Metallica sent him packing, for that matter.
I lieve in the same town as Dave and James Lomenzo has been in town and at Dave's farm all week, deal is all but done, just have to work out his scheadule with his gig in John Fogerty's band.
Fogarty demands his band members make him their highest priority. One of the guys had to fly from a Fogarty gig in India back to the states to do a show the next day - he barely made it.
Dave Mustaine and David Ellefson made Megadeth what it is today. I've seen Megadeth without Ellefson in the past. I don't agree with Junior being let go but Dave Mustaine going onstage with him again, maybe never gonna happen again. Imagine the hecklers? Been a fan since 1999 so I'll just appreciate all the good times.
I love Jason Newsted! 🖤💀He was never given the proper respect he deserved from Metallica. He was forced to be in Cliff Burton's shadow (which is just unfair!) as well as being the target of insults due to his earlier role in a Metallica tribute band. Personally, l think that's what made Jason so great as the bassist for Metallica! I'd love to see him join forces with Megadeth! I'm a huge fan!! I want Jason Newstead to get the recognition for being the extremely talented artist that he is! ⚡🎵🎸🎶⚡
Thats why you start your own band...like Megadeth! I think he learned his lesson getting kicked out that one shitty band he help start, to be the band n not be apart of the band
All I'm saying now is I just got the idea in my head to hear Jason take over lead vocals on Tornado of Souls, and now I wanna see that come to fruition. Imagine him barking out those lyrics, it'd be gnarly man
Jason already said his current health condition makes it hard for him to play old Metallica songs, so he'd struggle a bit to keep up with Megadeth stuff.
I'm pretty sure Jason would never join to play live, but it'd be really cool if he was hired for the studio recordings on the upcoming album That way he can take it at his own pace once and never really be troubled about playing live, and we get something fuckin great
Some of the best things... come from seemingly unexpected, possibly undeserved, personal setbacks in/with life/career. Though, based on my limited knowledge of their overall situation, I don't feel he deserved the "lot" he's being given, I really hope Ellefson takes this situation and creates the next "Megadeth" for us! God knows heavy metal can sure stand a blessing/gift of that "Meg-nitude" currently!!! You got this, Dave E! We'll ALL support ya! Now, go write us some KILLER tunes that we can bang to! Ones like Peace Sells & Dawn Patrol!
He meant that he didn't have the energy to do the whole live Metallica stage show thing anymore, not that he couldn't actually play the songs. But with Megadeth, that wouldn't be an issue since they barely move onstage
Unlikely to happen on tour given how little music Mustaine even contributed to the band- a good bit of KEA and a little bit of Ride, and the fact that they have little room for a third guitarist in a live context. In studio, however, I think a collaboration would be really cool.
If I were a betting man....My 💵💰💵 would be solely on Jason not grouping with Megadeth!! Although, I would love to see him with Megadeth even if it's 4 just 1 album!! Whatever Jason decides 2 do is what he was meant to be doing....So, I still back him & will continue listening to the music that he has out there!! Metal on Mr. Newstead!!
I’ll still listen to Megadeth older albums but won’t go and see them live again. Dave Mustaine started Megadeth with David Ellefson. He shouldn’t have been fired. Ellefson is as much Megadeth as Mustaine. Such a shame.
I think it's sad Megadeth accepts cancel culture. True, with his celebrity status he should be more careful about what he does ... but he got axed for trying to get laid???
Jason, himself, had said (mere weeks ago) that he only plays a few times a year (given the multiple surgeries he’s had), and wouldn’t be able to play music like Voivod, Metallica, etc. My humble opinion, I’m thinking that enough folks were paying attention, but the Newsted/Megadeth thing should never have even been a rumor to begin with. Also... the fact that Metallica’s social media account ‘liked’ the confirmation post about it all, just... isn’t that big a deal. I really doubt there’s any lingering drama, etc. on that front.
The only reason there was a movement to try and make this happen is because of the troll society we live in. People literally wanted a reason to make fun of Metallica.
At this point megadeth should have a name change and just be called dave and the hired guns. He seriously can't keep anyone. Sure some have messed up but at this point its like being married multiple times.
Rex is great but Dave found a way to get jr’s cut. Besides Rex is doing his own thing with total creative control. . The new guy will be a hired gun for live shows and not receive royalties as a true member.
I think he was referring to the physicality of playing 2 hour metal shows... not the playing of the songs themselves. Metallica basslines aren't THAT hard.
C'mon, Mustaine has let go of all the lingering animosity towards Metallica, so has Newstead, so, do we need to hear about that crap as if it would be relevant? Mustaine was ousted when these guys were practically kids, barely legal to buy their own alcohol, and Newstead joined , what, mid-20's, so it's hardly relevant to these guys early to mid 50's, and largely sober.
