Playing with a pick is usually frowned upon but he plays with so much conviction and passion he'd never get that sound without one, there's almost like a bell like tone,I think there's a bit chorus in there, that's jason though,he's being true to himself and the fans as always, legend
I don't blame him for quitting Metallica, and he has said numerous times that he has no regrets about leaving and that It was the right thing for him to do.
This is why Jason rules. He brought 100% dedication every night. He'll always be "my Metallica bassist"since Cliff died when I was a kid. Jason was the guy I saw well over 20 times with the band. I miss the dude in Metallica.
To the both of you. Check this out *I love it* it's a more personal be side of Jason & acoustic. I found this gem a lil while back 💯 Susan ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h_Otlomd6Ho.html
The solo brings tears to my eyes.. Makes me go back to the simple days when it was all about listening to Metallica, getting drunk over beer, bunking classes and chilling with friends and brothers..
In a sad way this described Jason’s role in Metallica, just him being himself playing music while James and Lars made him the outcast and treated him unfairly. Jason is such a beautiful soul man
Jason was a bad motherfucker, really enjoyed his presence in the band. I think he doesn't get enough credit. Talented, great live guy, great fan guy and overall cool human being. 'My Friend of Misery' was my favorite song on the Black Album.
You're right dude, Jason gave new blood to Metallica before Cliff's death, but I feel pity for James and Lars because they never knew to appreciate Jason's contributions in the band. Saludos.
Eduardo Nuñez Don’t you mean after Cliff’s death? I don’t feel too much pity for James or Lars because they were complete assholes to Jason. Reducing his bass to where is barely audible in the entire album of And Justice for All… Hazing him beyond belief. Hazing is one thing of welcoming him to the band but doing it for 15 years straight would be enough for me to punch both of them in the face. This is usually an incident or case of “you don’t know what you had until it’s gone”. I also can’t forgive them for not letting Jason experiment or be free to contribute to the band.
1:30 - 2:26 is my favorite portion. The entire solo is fire but Jason’s melody from My Friend Of Misery and Kirk’s swells here are simply beautiful together.
For me personally Jason was Metallica, he was the heavy, angry , sorrowful aspect to the band. They created the best tracks with him in my opinion and I will always adore this performance.
That angry sorrow really was instrumental to the feeling of old metallica and it feels lacking today. I don’t want the bad to feel like that though haha
From one bass player to another. Jason was on another level. Such a beast. He brought so much presence and energy to the band and their live shows. Nothing against Robert, but their live shows just haven’t been the same . Miss you Jason!!
Rrobert Trujillo is a bass god. He just belongs in Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves. Joining Metallica might have been a dream come true for Rob but anyone that knows what he can really do on bass knows Metalllica has robbed us of hearing Rob's thrash slapping with Suicidal and his funk metal insanity with Infectious Grooves. The man is truly too talented for Metallica.
@@JuanPabloContrerasC Everyone was hit hard with the death of Cliff. They never got over it. You could tell Jason was in for a tough time. He said it himself. When the and justice for album dropped and they lowered the bass on the album to the point you couldn't hear it at all.
@@JohnJames. Cliff was only with them for what... 3 years? Compare that to how AC/DC lost Bon Scott (after double the amount of time Cliff was with Metallica) and had to carry on with Brian Johnson and made an album just months after Bon died.
I read somewhere that, Cliff is a legend, Robert is a very good player, but Jason is Metallica, it can't be more accurate than that, bring back Jason for the last tour for the last album..
I picked up the bass because i saw the my friend of misery intro live at a cover band concert, right then and there i ordered the bass. i`m now the bass player of a metal band which is writing melodic metal.
I doubt anyone connected with the fans better than Jason did while he was with the band. He was exactly what the band needed at a time when they were struggling with the loss of Cliff and other personal issues.
Cliff, Sweden is honored to have a stone in your memory at the place for your passing. We are sad that our roads took away one of, if not THE most talanted base players of all time. But hey, Jason you took his place with great honor and talant and honestly I think you are just as much Metallica as Cliff was. Trujillo is also a super talanted basist and a true Metallica member but will never replace or top the feeling Cliff or Jason gave us fully.
@@gabriellevesque-lessard5052 yeah it's sad a young man was cut down in his prime, but he wasn't that great. Could name ten players better than him off the top of my head.
Yeah especially after the other 3 royally screwed him . he wanted 1 damn year to do his own thing. And Lars is the main one . I hated watching them be inducted into the hall of fame with robert in his place ! How does that even happen? 👿 they always treated him like trash
Always been a huge Metallica fan and for me all of their best music came in the Newsted era. There was just a different energy and aura about their music back then, especially live...they were the biggest and best band in the world in the 90's! It's not about Burton vs Newsted vs Trujillo. They are all great bass players but my Metallica would have Jason in it all day long! 🤟
Makes me so happy to see how many people on these comments love Jason as much as I always did. His back up vocals and bass lines made metallica that much harder
I grew up playing Kirk's parts in the Cunning stunts videos. These videos bring me back to being a kid jamming for hours and hours along to this video, times were much simpler then. When Kirk comes in with the Ernie Ball Volume pedal and those swells, it's what makes Metallica amazing. They take you on a journey with their music. Certain pieces from the past literally can take you to a different place if you close your eyes and let the music speak. Metallica forever!
All haters say what you want ,this is my all time favorite bass solo,Jason so under appreciated, got me through alot as a teen this solo after my uncle died
if it tells you anything, ive never listened to metallica much but this jason guy- his face has always been the first thing to pop in my head. almost as if you can feel his energy...idk, unique stuff haha
Newsted is such a wonderful person! A talented guitar player an excellent artist and i gues the biggest metalhead in history!! Honor and respect my brother!!! It's not every day you have the chance to listen to such a talented bass player sing alone...enjoy my metallheads brothers!!
Jason is an absolute phenomenal bassist,he's still my preferred and favourite, and plus,I like the melody played, then kirk coming in on lead axe brilliant.
Miss Jason in Mettallica. Not Cliff but deserved and deserves so much credit for the time spent with the band, You will never replace Cliff but Jason was incredible when you let him be.
I'm coming back to listen to this from time to time. But now it hits harder. Listening to this you go back in time and seen the years past. What you should done right and what wrong
I was just having the same thoughts .I also started thinking about my mom who passed a year ago and I started crying man. Good therapeutic tears though.
Man i miss Jason in the band. Wish that some things were different but it is what it is. Maybe one day on the last concert of the last album will we see him again
Jason did so much to push them on another level after cliffs passing when the band could just collapsed, he did some outstanding work for them, both where/are awesome bassists and I've had the privilege to have seen both live.
I miss Jason. Its sad that he left. This bass solo is really great, he didn't even try to be like Cliff. Robert couldn't touch Jason at what he do to be honest.
Jason..what can I say..We love and enjoy Metallica, but I hate missing him playing. He was a big fan playing with the band, he was all of us in one person on the stage. We will waiting for a Metallica and Jason tour...we need him, God took Cliff but we must have the right to enjoy him (jason) again.
