One of my favorite lines from a year and half is when they're giving Jason crap for taking sandwiches to eat later despite having millions of dollars and he replied, "I have plans for those millions, and it ain't for fucking sandwiches." Glad to see he's kept that attitude.
That’s right! And he also said at that time that he’d like to get himself a country spread , a bunch of acres and a place to call his own and that’s exactly what he has now. Glad he’s able to enjoy the fruits of his hard earned labor. Good on him.
Only thing better than that quote, which I love. is Kirks' response to that saying "Yeah, He's gonna be the slum lord of Walnut Creek!" The town I grew up in the Bay Area! I lost my shit. Btw A few years later I delivered pizza to Jason's house and he was so effing nice! Love that memory to this day! Long Live Metallica! 🤘
Can we talk about what a great interview journalist Steffan is? Obviously he's been connected to the band for a VERY long time. But he's so well spoken and his questions are on point. No generic bland open ended questions... very well thought out intrigue to get the best from Jason whos always a fantastic interview. Jason never is at a loss for words or great insight into Metallica from a fans point of view. These 4 episodes have been amazing.
Hope to see more content of this style posted on the official Metallica channel. Super interesting interview. Jason was such a huge part of Metallica's live performance. I really hope before they call it quits they do some live shows with him, they've never been able to replace the amazing backing vocals he contributed.
So Genuine, so sincere. I could listen to Jason talk for many hours. You could see he felt so bad for James when he got hurt. I could just feel it the way he described it. And so victorious for James to bounce back in such little time. A true warrior. Thanks so much Jason !!! You ROCK brother !!!! \,,/..\,,/
The best 4 part series of the year so far.thank you jason for being there at that time to make history with 3 other legend's.iv been there from near enough the start with metallica.and u will always be apart of my life aswell as the others.🤘🤘
Wow, what a wonderful interview!!! Steffan, you asked amazing questions and thank you for documenting MetallicA for us for decades now. Jason is such a fan of everything. And imagine being such a huge fan of MetallicA like us and then being part of that machine???? Listening how excitedly Jason was talking about MetallicA made me think I am in a multiverse, sooo unbelievably amazing🤘😈🤘
it's so good to see Jason around again, after so long of radio silence from him. For good reason of course, so im glad he's stepped up on his own time and terms. It's good to hear him talk too. Just a genuine guy overall. Thank you, Metallica. Thank you, Jason.
MetallicA is not just a Band, it's a lifestyle, "It's Raining, WE ARE going to Play!" " I got burned, Your playing guitar, I'm Singing!" This is why I LOVE MetallicA and Always Will !
Loved all of this! I would love a detailed interview on the Load/Reload era. After the universe that was the Black Album and it’s tour, how did the band deal with the change of direction and all that came with it. Love Jason and am always sad that I didn’t get to see him with his Newsted band in Australia. My Friend Of Misery is still my favourite Black Album Song!!!!!
So awesome Jason is growing his hair out!!! I absolutely miss Jason in the band! The age I am when I got into Metallica was the self titled album so for me he WAS the original bass player then I learned about Cliff and what had happened, then got into Cliff em all and Cliff, I remember watching a binge and purge video going into my bathroom and shaving my hair underneath like Jason🤘 he was a huge reason I play bass to this day!! I was so bummed when Jason left
Just a fascinating interview, really fun and great to hear from Newsted, seems like such an introspective guy, nice to see him relive and really enjoy that experience. All the best to Mr Newsted.
Great interview. Great questions and answers. Probably the most deep thinking intelligent guy in the band. If he did not get the spot in the band they would never have survived.
It has been an incredible and fun interview. I grew up listening to metallica's music in the 90s and I wanted to be like Jason Newsted, shake my head and look like a maniac, thanks for sharing this material, I really miss Jason Newsted in Metallica!!! he was the soul of the band in live performances!!
Black Album DVD Jason picks up food from Roadies food table. James "what are you doing?" Jason replies "Saving on room service, I want to buy a farm one day"! 👊 Grounded and level headed✌️🤘🏴🇦🇺
No shade toward Rob, but how is Jason not in the band?? All these years later and he STILL has their back. This dude was so integral to Metallica it’s not even funny. And somehow he proves to STILL have the bands best interest at heart. Incredible.
I remember going to the Jason shows. San Diego sports arena. The LA coliseum haven't done any Metallica shows since. Roberts great suicidal tendencies infectious grooves. All bands think they're the reason but they're wrong. The songs are like family the band was the only thing I had when I was a teenager it's not the same no matter how big of ego they have
Tough life like my friend Brian whom upon returning from boys camp introduced me to Metallica. Days of the boom box. He would excitedly as xmas toys to open say "Ohh Kent you have to listen to this part!" I didn't get Metallica back then Garage Days, Moms getting raped killed your baby today was shit to me......NOISE...I asked him WHAT DID THEY DO TO YOU IN REFORM SCHOOL.....Nooo Kent you have to listen.....so excited to share with me what I did not know yet. Fade To Black was his song that pulled him through and I bet you too. Peace.
Ready for parts 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10 now. Newsted I have been a huge fan of yours since I was 13, which is 33 yrs ago.. You are truly genuine, your integrity is amazing you make this Michigander proud. We old school fans miss you! Thank you for being real!🤘🎸🤘
Despite being a hero to the bassist guitar player community and showing the audience that he can play other instruments and enjoy all kinds of music in a way that makes him look like a god .... he is still down to earth and is responsible to the company he keeps during his interviews....😉
Met Newsted the day of one of their shows in ‘92. Being the teenaged mega-Metallica fan that I was I was almost too nervous to even make eye contact with him let alone speak to him. He was a complete down to earth guy and gave us about 20 minute of his time to shoot the breeze.
This was fantastic! Love Jason so much. I feel like Jason was the solid rock for everybody else to hold on to during the 90's. I really miss him in Metallica. Rob is great, but if Metallica ever needs a new bassplayer, Jason needs to come back. What the hell, he should just join now and do the backing vocals.
Thank you for this interview! Always great to see Jason. Sadly there is no Maiden-sollution to have two bass-players in one band 😉 Wish you all the best, Jason. I will hear your Newsted-Album forever 🤘
