The classical guitarist has a huge appetite for diverse music, and plays with a clear, lyrical technique. if you play guitar you will notice and hear how complete and pure each note sounds. Its impressive to see the the fast pace yet accuracy he has. Truly a great guitarist

I love how the vibrato comes through on so many notes. Like other commenters have said, it really sounds like you're there in person. Jason is probably my favorite classical guitar player.

I played the PFA 998 in the past in my undergrad. Jasons performance is truly a inspiration to how to play this. So much power and clarity. I was lucky enough to meet and play for him last summer.

Lovely performance, and I really like the dry and very present sound - like sitting there on the front row. Too many classical guitar recordings have suffered from too much room and too little guitar.
@QGfk1
@QGfk1 10 лет назад
I really wish his recordings were more like that. Vieaux is a sensational guitarist and his tone is sublime but on record he sounds like he's playing in an echo chamber
@quezfor
@quezfor 10 лет назад
Per Lindhof, I agree 100%. I always wonder why so many good guitarists sound recording is so poor. A good example of a bad recording would the the Assad Bros first album: loss of fuzz and hiss with reverb up to 10. I think sound engineers for the most part do not understand the classical guitar. Or they try to capture the sound of a concert...far away...so much echo...as though recording in a stone church. I love the dry close sound of this performance.

Amazing playing and the conversation is great, too. Love these older Tiny Desks when it was even more casual and folks (Bob probably?) would just ask questions between.

I noticed the book on Roy Orbison in the background entitled, "The Soul of Rock'n'Roll". Jason is definitely the soul of classical guitar. Absolutely gorgeous performances. When I practice, I have a recording of him playing the piece to guide me. I notice how much thought goes into every note. I would've loved to hear his Albeniz. His Sevilla is like listening to an orchestra. His Cordoba delicious. His Torre Bermeja just rocks the house! Thanks Jason! You're an inspiration!

This is the venue that the guitar is made for. Small and maybe a bit dead, but if you listen into the guitar... it has a Carnegie Hall inside of it. It's like a metaphor for life made out of wood.

Jason Vieaux is one of my personal favourite guitar virtuosos, those who discover and introduce us to excellent music. Through John Williams, I learned about Barrios, the great Paraguayan. Also, I loved Fabio Zanon, both on record and in concert, I don't know about recordings, but my favorite classical guitar player, breathtakingly good, is Mario Ulloa, from Brasil. I've heard him in concert. Thank you so much for uploading this informal session on the RU-vid. So nice to listen to Jason Vieaux explain and then play that exceptional piece of music!

I kinda like that the space is dry. It's quite a change from how we normally hear him. I think it's easier to imagine what it would be like to be sitting right next to him during a lesson. In the Prelude you can really hear him digging in and large spaces like halls and cathedrals smooth that out. Nice to hear him "in the raw!"

Most likely. I have no idea what kind of room he prefers to practice in when he has a choice but it's inevitable that he ends up having to in dead hotel rooms and green rooms. Since he has recorded his last few albums at that monstrous cathedral in Cleveland, that's the sound that most of us know and it's well known that he considers the room part of his instrument. I'm sure to be a truly rounded player one must be comfortable in both environs but we're only human!

What is the point of having a tiny desk concert? Why does he have to sit in a tiny room behind a desk? Why can't they just have him play in a studio or some other room that is not as acoustically dead as this one?

Sorry ,but he is an extremely boring player.No tone color for example ,in the capricho arabe at the introduction ,he could have played first time loud (forte) and on the repeat soft (piano) but everything is at the same level and his tone is not that good.
