Despite the campaign’s success in closing some farms, most remain operational, impacting the island's fishing and tourism trades. Many viewed Daniel's case as a tactic aimed at silencing critics. In 2024, he was exonerated after serving four months in prison. His case underscores the challenges faced by environmental defenders in Indonesia.
