I got double jaw surgery three months ago and let me tell you I went through the same emotions and feelings about my face that you are going through! I promise once the muscle movements starts to come back you will start to feel more like yourself again. Also I think you look great!
I empathise with you - I got a septoplasty this year to breathe better but it's actually made me self-conscious about my nose. Here's hoping you learn to love your new face! X
IMO, your face looks great, especially when you have a big smile that shows your teeth. Shelby 2.0. Do a screenshot at 3:37 and look at it. The muscles will finish healing and this how great you'll look all the time.
I know that because it’s your face and because you see yourself in the mirror everyday you might feel like you look weird but from an outside perspective you really do look great.
My sister had bottom jaw surgery three years ago, and it took her almost a year for all of the swelling to go down and for her to regain feeling in both lips. She went through a lot of what you’re describing - she didn’t like how she looked and even got a bit depressed at one point because of it. However, I can happily say that she loves how she looks now and hasn’t looked back!! It might be a tough next year, but you’ll make it through and be happy you decided to do it ❤️❤️
I like your face. Everyone you know likes your face. My face is also kind of frozen because I have cerebral palsy and my animation muscles don’t work like other people’s faces do. So I understand a little bit about this.
I hope you don’t take this the wrong way - so many positive comments below about your new face BUT I do want to validate what you’re seeing, you do look different. I personally think it’s because your cheeks and jaw are slimmer and thus your nose is now a more prominent feature than it used to be. I don’t think you look puffy anymore, actually think your face shape is slimmer overall!
@@laker4life36 Actually probably not! i had an even more invasive jaw surgery and they dont show you a mock up of what your face will look like, just before and afters of other people
yea, its weird, she does it with the weeks too. I think she means she's starting into her 3rd month? Like last week she wrote 8 weeks, but it was really the end of her 7th, and beginning her 8th.
@@lisakelly2194 IIRC she said she had the surgery on 10/16 so it hasn't even been two months. She's probably got too much on her mind right now and slipped up. Or it could be a simple typo she didn't catch. The title at the start of the video says two months which is correct.
Your face honestly looks like its 100% and i really think in 6 mos time its gonna be completely good. Like u mentioned in a prevous video, ppl have different recovery times.
I believe your nose does look different and your upper lip does look frozen still. But I can see that your nose is looking more normal and you are gaining some movement in that lip. It’s just really slow. Remember that you had a major surgery and everyone recovers differently. You look very beautiful. You’re doing great. Keep it up. ❤️
Shelby, I think you're absolutely killing life right now! Getting into real estate with Monica and growing your channel. It's super impressive to see. And you look absolutely beautiful! But I know you've seen your face your whole life so of course you'll pick up the changes no one else can see... I'm glad you know that it's a temporary thing until your facial muscles grow back. You look beautiful to us!
The easiest way to get through this is telling yourself that this was how you were supposed to look like in the first place. Your nose actually resembles Monica's more now, and since she's your twin that's not a bad thing haha.
Your feelings are totally your own but while you do look slightly different, I think you look amazing! Anyone else see a mix of Kristin Cavallari x Avril Lavigne?
Don't worry about your nose too much, trust me, my nose looked exactly like yours when it was swollen, even though its a completely different shape, it's still swollen, give it time, don't think about it too much and you'll see your end results eventually. My nose was swollen for 2 months and then went back to normal. The swelling won't go down in one day, it may already be going down little by little and you don't know. You'll get through it, stay positive.
Stay strong. Seeing you tear up in the car actually made me almost start crying. I had a bad accident and my face and body looks different now too and it’s so fuckin hard to look in the mirror. strong and take it one day at a time . You are still beautiful
"THIS TOO SHALL PASS"! I think you are stunningly attractive, very pretty, beautiful, still sexy, and any other way of saying that I would be PROUD to be seen with a lady that looks like you on my arm! 😉 "Time is the healer of all wounds"! That goes for mental, emotional and physical. Time will allow for changes in the way you feel and look and for the nerves and muscles to get back to the way they need to be. You have come so far in the short amount of time in your healing process and the change, I believe, is incredible. And I had to laugh at the way you came towards your dad and greeted him, but went straight for the dog, like "Hi Dad so nice to see you again....ohhh puppy"! lol! 😆
I think the voice over was the best, I was thinking that same thing, and I guess those things take time. But you're still the same person that's all that matters.
There is no face problem...none. Every straight guy on any campus in Seattle would crawl a hundred yards through ground glass just for a date with you.
I had jaw surgery 2 years ago and cried everyday looking in the mirror. My swelling didn’t completely go down for about 1.5 years after my surgery and I’m finally starting to feel and accept myself again! I know it’s hard in the beginning but it will get so much better! I also do not have full nerves back I’m my chin, and at this point they said I won’t haha which is not a big deal because I’m so happy with my new jaw! You got this girl, it just takes time to find yourself again. Never feel bad for being upset or unsure about your appearance, you’re beautiful and in time you’ll begin to feel normal again (especially after you start eating real food again)!! This is your jaw surgery journey and take full advantage of every feeling and experience it flys by
I completely understand! After jaw surgery I remember having multiple breakdowns about how much I hated my new face. But, just remember that the full swelling takes about six months to a year to fully go down and for you to see what your face will actually look like. Also, I will never forget how weird it was to eat solid food for the first time. I remember I got to the point where I was so hungry that I would swallow foods whole because I couldn’t handle soft foods anymore. But (after re-learning to chew) eating harder foods made such a difference! It helped me regain feeling in certain parts of my face which really helped with expression. Unfortunately, I still don’t have complete feeling in parts of my face and it’s 6 years post-op, but I definitely don’t regret my decision to get jaw surgery.❤️
1 month post this surgery and feeling all the same!!! It truly is an identity crisis. So thankful to have had you and your videos through this process! Honestly has been tougher mentally than physically!
Hi Shelby! I’m almost 5 most post-op my double jaw surgery and have experienced all the feelings you talked about... I know that people say that your final results are at 3 months post-op, but my surgeon really says to give it a year! I already see such a difference between 3 months post-op and now, especially my facial movements (specifically my upper lip). It’s so hard to be patient, but I am really hopeful that by 1 year I will be so happy with my results!
I got double jaw surgery a few years back while in college so I totally get it and felt the same way! I found that it took about 9 months to fully de-swell (the last like 10% of swelling took a while to finally come down) but for the most part my face looks pretty similar to how it looked pre-surgery, with full mobility and all!!
I think starting to chew is going to make the biggest difference. You move your face so much when you chew and you haven't done that for 2 months! I think your animation will come back in the next few weeks
After my jaw surgery, for a long time, I was afraid that my nose was always going to stay pointed up (wasn’t like that pre surgery). It was not a good look and then it did eventually go back down to normal. It was still swollen and pulled in weird ways even after I thought all the swelling was gone.
Hang in there babe! My body has changed ~drastically~ because of my chronic illness and I totally get what you’re going through. It’s a disconcerting feeling when you look in the mirror and don’t look like yourself, it’s like a form of body dysmorphia. Give it time and give yourself grace. With time, you’ll get used to it and the muscles will improve. You will have more hard days but you’ll have less and less bad days as time passes. When you’re having a bad day, don’t be hard on yourself, let yourself feel everything you need to feel and don’t beat yourself up for feeling that way. What you’re going through is hard but also normal! Take it day by day and you’ll get through it ❤️
I got jaw surgery in January, and I honestly didn't feel okay with how I looked until about 7- 8 months post op. It's natural to go through some sort of identity crisis, because it's your face and something you've spent your entire life looking at. But take solace in that you are still swollen (like way more than you think you are) and everything will settle in eventually. Also I still can't even feel parts of my face even now.
I was definitely thinking what you said at 4:40. It’s just your expressions aren’t completely back to normal, which is making you think it’s your physical face. You’ve still got healing time!!
You actually look a lot diff before and after the appointment! After the appointment, you look very similar to your old face, just not 100% with the facial animations yet
oof, i had such a hard time accepting my new look after jaw surgery .. it took me about 8 months post-op to finally feel confident about the change. and then of course i had my second jaw surgery right after ):
@@edenrosenbloom2707 hi my first surgery was to place a titanium custom jaw joint in my face lol. the right side. the second surgery was for my chin, they cut my chin on each side and slid it forward. then they cut my top jaw into three different sections to shift the top jaw centered. oh and to answer your possible question, lol. i was born with goldenhar syndrome. that’s why i needed it lol
Hi Shelby i had rhinoplasty, it took one year before my nose got its shape and swollen completely went away. One thing you can do is to massage your face daily to shape it differently. You should look into it. Personally ithink you look good. The most importantly is that your jaw doesn't hurt. Dont be hard on yourself!
I got alarplasty and it took 3 to 6 months for the swelling to subside. It already looks okay after a month, but I really appreciated the results and all the swelling and muscles settled after 6 months. Imagine breaking and realigning your jaw, I'd expect that to normalize longer than 3 months
Just removing the wire made a big difference, confirming my impression that the constraints on your mouth movement were a big part of the difference in how you look. I'm sure as you get more of that movement back you'll see even more improvement.
Shelby! You are still in the early stages and look great - imagine how even more stunning you will look once fully healed 👀 thank you for documenting your progress
Shelby you're a great looking girl.you just need the right role model that makes you feel a great attitude and vibes about yourself..I subscribed to you years ago because of your beauty.im shallow. and also your personality..but if you wanna go on this epic quest journey odyssey to discover what makes you or will make you gorgeous and super likable or whatnot, then sister go to it.
Don't worry about your face. Your resting face look 100% like you. When you get the muscular movements back everything will go back to normal. It looks great
I can only imagine how hard it is to see a different face than you’re used to seeing. You look beautiful but I’m sure it’s still something to get used to and fully accept. I know you expected some change but I know it’s different “knowing” vs “experiencing”. I hope it gets easier soon
When I had rhinoplasty they told me it would take up to a year for me to heal correctly and for my nose to “settle”! Don’t get too stressed out. It takes quite sometime to get used to the difference! I think you look great! :)
It's definitely the muscles. Once you get control of them again, your face is going to look so much better! Keep doing facial muscle exercises and you'll be back to normal in no time 🙂 Btw, the pizza eating was hilarious 😂
Think of it this way Shelby, if things hadn't been as they were, you'd have had this face all along possibly. 🤔😲🤯😉 Don't judge yourself to harshly, let the foolish haters to do that. 👍👍
3 months after my surgery I didn’t like my face either. I would cry and cry, feeling like I messed up my face. No one told me that I really need to wait 6-12 months to see the results. I would say once I hit 6 months post op I really started to see what I would look like, and it took another 6 months to really see the final results!
Your face is fine and it was fine before. You had to get the surgery for other reasons, so why not be grateful that it's all done. You've got a lot of great things in your life. A lot of women would kill to have your face. All the best...
You are so strong for what you’ve gotten through this year. It’s been amazing to watch this journey, you keep it together so much better than I ever would
Nice video and very informative and very entertaining and very satisfaction more videos. Keep calm and stay calm. Still praying for Shelby and Mr Trump.
I think it’s just the muscle movement. It looks totally fine. I also think if you didn’t see yourself on camera all the time it wouldn’t bother you as much. Once you get your movement back I bet you like it. I think you look great!
Shelby, I read that you and Monica are identical (but I can tell you apart easily, both pre and post jaw surgery). If you're really identical, has the doctor explained why you had the jaw problem and she doesn't? Just curious.
Shelby you're just as gorgeous as ever, but I totally understand that you feel your face isn't your own. That muscular movement will come back in time. Hang in there!
For what it's worth.........(1) you're a beautiful girl; (2) as you've mentioned since prior to the surgery, this particular surgery involves a very substantial "back to normal" time frame. You knew that up front. After all, even 3 months post-surgery, you still have swelling and still can't eat many, many things. But, you will be able to do so later. (3) you're a beautiful girl. Hang in there.
You are still beautiful! We have to except ourselves for who we are. P.S. I am an old, fat , bald retired Military. I have had to learn to accept myself for me. I enjoy your channel. Have a great day & Love yourself. OK?
You don't like your face. Your face should go in the top 10 of faces. Good grief. You've spent so much time working on this you need to move on. When you get to 75 like me and don't like your face..okay I can kind of get that. But you look like an advertisement for a dating app! (meant in the most complementary way). It's over now..ENJOY.
It can take some people years for all the swelling to be completely gone. Also jaw surgery can change your nose that’s normal. Be kind to yourself and give your body time to heal. You went through major surgery. ❤
Its gonna take time... but you will get used to the new shape of your face... And trust us, you look beautiful! The facial expression will get better too!
Hey Shellby; Not a critique but an honest RU-vidr question. How importnat are RU-vid Thumbnails to you and how much litteral time do you spend creating them?
