I always loved exploring the interior of the sandcrawler in Lego Star Wars the complete saga. So much history in there, and forgotten bits of ancient machinery lurking in dark corners.
The yearly swap meets would also be a chance to exchange tribe members and prevent inbreeding - human tribes did the same (some that have survived still do) As for why they are on Arvala - 7, most likely some Jawas got their hands on a planetary database and look for a planet similar to Tatooine, and that has the added advantage of _no Sandpeople._ With their main threat not present they can expand their population without predation. It's like ancient humans finding a map that shows a new land where there are no big predators, except instead of constructing canoes, they turn their entire village into a ship and then turn it back into a village once on the other island. Scrap a Freighter, install the space bits, get to Arvala - 7, remove and sell the space bits to the local humans for supplies and their sandcrawler is now on a Sandpeople free planet. Unless the little buggers were employed by a galactic mining company and transported to several desert worlds, and the company went bust, leaving them stranded with the company assets. Kind of makes sense, they are hardy and suited for desert survival, and their small size makes logistic easier - you can't stick a dozen humans in a closet unless you chop them into fine pieces first, and then their usefulness as employees is seriously downgraded. But Jawas would make low cost employees for a company that was working on the margins and needed low overheads.
@@kvoltti agreed... honestly doubt there would be any sandcrawlers that haven't been modified to some extent over the many, many years that the Jawas have been operating them.
I independently came up with the second theory: that Jawas are not native to Tatooine and were brought there (and to many other worlds) by an interstellar mining corporation either as workers or slaves. Once the company went belly-up, every planet they were present on had one or more tribes of Jawas in their sand crawlers.
Damn, a brand new sand crawler cost the same as a single x-wing? Crazy. Seems like the metal it's made of alone would cost more. Either x-wings are way better than I realized or sand crawlers are shittier than they look.
Well, brand new fighter jets can cost 100 million dollars each. A contemporary vehicle to the sandcrawler might be something like a bucket wheel excavator like Bagger 288, which casts as much.
Just think how much an aircraft carrier cost compared to a jet. Aircraft carrier almost 13 billion dollars compared to an F-22 Raptor at 1.67 billion or the B2 at 2.2 billion
ok, so this is really cool and all, but if Jawas didn't build them, how come the ceilings inside the control room are the exact height of the Jawas? i can only explain this that in 4000 years they completely rebuilt the Czerka sandcrawler to fit Jawa's specific needs. in any case great video.
My theory is that the Arvala-7 Jawas came to the planet with other travelers; but I believe the reason they were so spread out and casual on their sand crawler is because, outside of the Blurrgs and the Mudhorn, Arvala-7 didn't seem to have dangerous wildlife or even there doesn't appear to be any deadly Sentient Species. They were probably so used to bounty hunters dying trying to capture the child that they would scrap their ships once they got far enough away and sell the weapons and other useful scrap to the Mercenaries that killed said bounty hunters.
Internal logic that doesn't make sense is _why weren't the Sand people wiped out?_ Genocide isn't a real ethical issue in the Star Wars universe and on the outer rim no one would complain even if it was. And the technology and superior firepower is there to do so, you don't even need a coordinated military campaign (although the Empire or even just the Hutts could do it easily), just put a bounty on Sandpeople and hunting parties will form to cash in. Especially with the availablity of heavy weapons in Star Wars to civilians, a couple of light freighters converted into gunships or even surplus real gunships from a war could exterminate a tribe without any fuss. They then move on to the next tribe. Even without that, a group could set up shop as Sandpeople pest control - getting raided by a tribe, give them a call and for a reasonable fee they will wipe it out, or just retaliate enough to deter future attacks. Besides Anakin wouldn't be the only one to have their mother killed by Sandpeople, a group of vengeance minded killers could form to well… take revenge. Seriously, Vader could've had the species gone with a order, as a training mission for a legion, or just go on hunting holidays on Tatooine to get some anger and aggression out. Although that could be awkward if his spider sense started tingling… and apparently it's canon in a comic that he went back and killed Watto.
Because Tatooine is for star wars what an abandoned building in the outskirts of a city in a third world country is for us. Lots of trash, nothing worth salvaging for any serious company or faction. Some ocasional drug addict or gang hideout. And very, very poor or uncaring inhabitants. People who cares about the sandpeople would not have the resources to wipe them out. People who have the resources to obliterate them wouldnt care about them in the first place. Why would the empire or the hutts give a damn about a bunch of savages in a shitty rock? They were there in the first place only to find the escape pod with r2 and 3po
Vampire Count Jabba the Hutts literal palace is there, so you’d think that he’d want to do some sand people pest control because they’re literally in his backyard.
@@spacemarinechaplain9367 why? They cant do shit to jaba palace. I think they wouldnt even try to mess with jaba. They are fanatics but not retarded. And its actually good to have some hostile wildlife around if they cant harm you. It makes it less likely someone will find his hideout
@@vampirecount3880 you also forgetting the sand people had their other uses. They were good sport for hunting when a Hutt fancied themselves a bounty hunter or a sport hunter. They kept the locals afraid, which made it easier for the Hutts and Empire to control them. Then they also made pod racing more interesting, after all they did like to take pot shots at the racers, which adds an extra element to it, increasing its popularity. As for not wiping them out, a suitably equipped military could likely do it relatively easily, but why bother, they aren't a threat to the military or anyone capable of paying them to do it. And as was shown in a new hope, they make for excellent fall guys should the military want to do some thing dodgey.
This is actually a very good chassis for a heavy tank or tank destroyer - good terrain crossing capabilities and spread out ground pressure. Make the hull lower, and add a huge cannon, and this thing will rival the AT-AT.
ONe of my favorite races and vehicles! I've loved the Jawa since I was a wide eyed 5 year old introduced to Star Wars. I'm glad I'm not the only one questioning how a people and vehicle, supposedly exclusive to Tatooine, seem to suddenly exist all over the galaxy!
The first thing I thought when I saw them in that episode was: "How the hell did they get there?? With their sandcrawlers??" I always assumed the Jawas were indigenous to Tatooine, and I never imagined them as a space-faring culture.
I FINALLY get why MetaNerdz Lore tell everyone how many dewbacks, Hutts, Rancors, Wookiees, Ewoks and so forth can fit inside each vehicle. EVERY vehicle in Star Wars is secretly an abattoir
Mate of mine is looking at getting a mobile home, what sort of licence do you need to _drive a sandcrawler?_ He has a heavy vehicle license but may want some of us to take turns behind the wheel on long trips… And are there restrictions on parking spaces, obviously height clearance is an issue and we can forget about tunnels.
At 19 mph, anywhere he goes is going to be a long trip... And Walmart doesn't let people park their sandcrawlers in their lots overnight anymore, so there's that to contend with.
6:52 This is why bounty hunters should work in teams, or at least have a copilot that _guards the ship_ and can come do pickups for a quick getaway (or fire support) in an emergency. I'm thinking Serenity (from the movie of the same) doing the barn door pickup when the mule sled is being chased by Reavers. Or Christopher's kid from District 9, who stayed with the dropship. Maybe baby Yoda can keep an eye on the Razorcrest when he gets a little older. Jango and Bobba had the same setup.
I remember playing Super Star Wars on the SNES as kid and wondering why there was molten metal or a lava in the bottom of the sandcrawler where you fight the boss about level. I always found this to be way absurd and unbelievable, but now that you mention that this was used as a mining vehicle and the facilities for melting or and scrap metal, it all makes sense. Thanks for clearing up a nearly three decades old mystery.
Oh man i remember that Kotor quest. Or the one with the guy whos wife left him in a mine field. Ah yeah good times. Exept for all the times you would have to run back to town. Just to pick up one more quest. then back... and back again... Still good stuff.
I feel like the Sandcrawler could make a "Rolling Fortress" template.. Add some windows on the side and stick heavy repeating blasters on them, thicker armor plating, point defense turret on the side, top, back and front, a shield generator, maybe a smaller reactor for extra power, and a pretty big troop bay, able to fit around 100-200 troops or some speeder bikes or even small assault vehicles
You know you have a winner with Sci-Fi design. When it almost starts a war between two countries. Though in Star Wars Lore. I like to think. The Jawa Spacecraft is real. As the Jawa are known to scavenge and repurpose tech. I can see them taking a Sandcrawler. Taking any Spaceship parts they could find. Also, any parts they could make. Getting their Sandcrawler rebuilt into a Spaceship. After surviving the trip and managing to not die on landing. They break it all down and rebuild the Sandcrawler. To which they start roaming the planet once again.
Kinda makes sense. They get their hands on some planetary databases and look for a planet similar to Tatooine, and that has the added advantage of _no Sandpeople._ With their main threat not present they can expand their population without predation.
Wasn't there that one cargo ship in the clone wars series, and probably other places too but that's where I remember it from, that had a similar body design to the sand crawler?
@@THENEVERDEADIV you can see the inside of a sandcrawler in a game? Which one exactly? i might try making a model of one or something, and having something like that as reference might help *significantly*
I imagine a clever smuggler negotiating a relocation of the whole clan and crawler to a virgin settled sand planet in exchange for some valuable salvage they had found. plenty heavy freighters that could handle the load.
My guess around that new planet is that those sandcrawlers were VERY common in many planets. Keeping any interstellar nation/kingdom/empire requires interstellar amounts of resources. Just so happens that Jawas found ways to get there in mining operations, probably thanks to their mining skills, and at some point the planet was not needed anymore (maybe the wars hit someone's economy and keeping an interplanetary mining operation became more expensive than the whole logistics of sending supplies and returning the goods). The planet got abandoned, but since the Jawas were not particularly harmful as long as you are willing to trade with them, they were left there. Of course it became somewhat independent and being neutral meant a good deal of the galaxy would go there to get minerals, despite the mining operations being officially terminated. And whoever abandoned the planet would also leave the Jawas there because, in case they needed it back, functioning sandcrawlers and skilled miners were already settled.
50 tons is way too low for a cargo capacity of a vechicle this huge. Especially if this was meant to be a ore carrier it would be extremely inefficient to use it.
well, if it refines it onsite, and only carries the pure ore with it, then well, if u was out and mined, and had to return to base because you was full of 50 tons of gold, i dont think u would be sad.
@@magnetmannenbannanen yep many ores have pure metal content in range of single digit % soo 50 tones of copper ingots would be equal to 5000 tones of most common copper ore.
@@paweplaczek2191 so if u can fit a washplant on top of a exavator, and keep it all from leaking out the water , u could have such a vehicle mining gold and smelting it onsite. bringing only the gold back to base.
50 tons of cargo isn't very much for a vehicle of that size and build. A C-17 Globemaster III aircraft can carry nearly twice the load (85 tons) and is a lot smaller and (obviously) faster in comparison.
So, the Jawas where the best beings of the the Universe, they where peaceful they collaborate with their own and with other species, they where technologically advanced, I would love to see a Jawa Jedi master, and bring some respect to their kin.
Question, do you think the Jawas did modifications to the cockpit? In the mandalorian it fit the Jawas but the mandalorian was to big? The Jawas weren’t the original user and I would think a human would fit
Pretty much every mine on earth uses haul trucks that are, if not the same make, similarly styled. CEC made something similar i reckon; being cheap meant smaller operators could afford one and larger operators could buy several, being reliable meant a good reputation and more potental customers, and being ubiquitous meant finding parts was easy and thats a Godsend when you're mining in the outer rim and ordering a new wheel bearing from Corellia means 3 months shipping. Wouldnt surprise me if they were still being made, or at least the parts were.
After seeing this video and learning who designed and built the Sandcrawlers seen in Tatooine I was surprised they were created by the Corellian Engineering Company the same people who were responsible for the creation of they're greatest products the YT series ships and the CR90 Corvettes and before I saw this video I didn't even know that and it was funny that the Tusken Raiders would help the Jawas get they're hands on the things.
During the 1,000 year rule of the Pius Dea how powerful was their military and advanced were they since this is 5,000 years before the 100 year Darkness war?
Nice! How will our firearms be like in different battles inside the Star Wars Galaxy? Will many fair nicely in combat with slight jamming issues and somewhat superior to almost all kinds of blasters despite can't carry lots of ammo?
Mayby in Sandcrawler data banks was some information about anothe,r similar to Tatooine planets where Czerka use Sandcrawlers. And some javas bought ship and fly there, found and repair crawler(s). Mayby If ther is too much Javas in on place they send a group to find new home ;)
The Sand Crawlers made by the Czerka Corporation are actually called the Multi-Environment Tracked Transport, and I honestly think it looks cool. I have read the Wookieepedia and it states the METT ( that is what I abbreviated it to ), has a top speed of 40 Km/h which is approximately 24.8 mph.
