So that's how they get trained

Believe it or not, this is how they used to do it before zambonis existed. My grandfather was in charge of running the local arena when he was in his 20's and he would do something similar but since the rink was NHL-size he used a much bigger container on an old pair of wooden skis and he would just skate in front of this "device" lol, dragging it along like a horse with straps and ropes and everything. He also had a bunch of guys with brooms leading the way, removing the excess snow. The broom guys would do it for free all week long and in exchange they would get a bunch of free hours of arena time to play ice hockey games. The Toronto Maple Leafs would come to my hometown to train before the season began because my grandpa's ice was the earliest, best ice you could find before winter came up. Punch Imlach was the head coach back then and the Leafs were winning consecutive Stanley Cups. Maybe it had something to do with their pre-season training? :P
