Jay Adams and Dennis Martinez talk about skating in the 70's, the rivalries and the drugs that took them both down and what they are doing now change lives.
R.I.P Jay Adams He created a style many of youngsters are inspired of. Jay Adams is the reason i started skating and i am greatful for that. Rest in Peace a total legend.
@@dillgross6758 he may have done a lot of bad things when he was an angry young guy who was constantly on drugs/drunk but he was a good person at heart
Awesome to hear their story and the see them help people, keep up the amazing work and keep on shredding! Everything is possible, with the right mindset, hard work, will, dedication, perseverence, passion, deyermination, practise and persistance.

Man that ain't no easy task helping kids get down the right path,or at least stay close to it,I'd been away from skating for 37 years, and I thought I could get a small thing going and spend more time skating and learning bowl and pools concrete, been a pipe rat vert skater, and I thought I would try and do some leading for the kids,I'm in Florida, but it turn out to be more negative than I expected, they don't want know help because they think they know it all and than they just don't want to listen,we were growing up we looked up to get were we wanted to go and ours ears were open and so was ours eyes, you can't go know where with out belief, and if you can't see it because your eyes ain't open you can't make it happen...piece out thanks for the video...skating still the same the limits are still how far you make it...none.
You guys fuckin' rock. I started skating about 27 years ago because of you all and I still skate today. In fact, I live right across the street from the new WJ Skatepark here, in Eugene, and I pretty much live there when I'm not at work. Thank you for the inspiration to shred hard and live life to the fullest! HUGE PROPS! HUUUUUUGE!
My first skateboard was a short thick wood plank with steel wheels,it was my and two older brothers Christmas gifts in 1970.My last board was a 30 inch long 10 inch wide single kick tail Dogtown, with full tracker trucks and OJ wheel$... That board lasted til 1987 when some thousand oak KOOK stole it out of my house in Mammoth Lakes.I was 25 then.Haven,t skated since...Can,t darn crippled.
RIVALRY? Hope you don't mind if I share a story. When I was down at Marina for the pro-am, I didn't want to go home. I know to grab it while I could so I bailed on my ride. I had less than a dollar in my pocket., I slept in the Turningpoint Ramp the first night I was there after the park closed. Second day, drinking tepid fountain water and starving. I begged off a little food and Jay happened to show up at the park in the afternoon by himself, skating. We did not know eachther. He saw me back at the keyhole and skated up and said "you back?" I said, "I never left. Slept in Senatore's ramp."" He laughed his ass off and asked me if I wanted to skate. We skated, then we went and skated the dog bowl. I was literally starting to faint from humger. Jay went in there and sweet-talked the snack bar girl, and came out with a buffet of hot dogs, nachos, candybars and drinks. Fucking fed me righteous. Then when he was getting ready to leave, he asked me where I was staying the night. He took me to Venice to a house where he had Plumer Zach Ness and a bunch of the other Florida Z-Boys guys staying. I crashed on their floor, we went and skated the next day and I caught a ride back to Santa Barbara right there at the free way that night When the Sparks Goleta Pro happened, I damn sure returned the favor, but Jay didn't come up. I made sure all the other guys had a place to stay. Money or no money, The Surf Skate culture was a brotherhood in those days. Ask Dennis, He knows. RIP JAY.
A friend of mine who I use to skate with back in 1977 just had breakfast with me and said "I was the Tony Alva of our school,in skating ability, and I took that as a compliment. But I told him " I was more like Jay Adams !!!" And he laughed pretty hard, saying yeah, that's true!!!
was listening to this song and jay was on my heart! can't wait to meet him and HIM!! soundcloud.com/lifechurchtvworship/set-apart-lifechurchtv-wellington/reposts
.....mad love for Dennis's ministry for Jesus, and Jay is saved as well (along with Lance Mountain and Christian Hosoi too) .... can't wait to skate with these good bro's in eternal paradise !!! 😇Do get saved in Christ while there is still time... amen to that
socially challanged and a person who refuses to be programmed are 2 different things. if you hate bullshit and fake people worried about what everyone thinks of them i bet you would find him a down to earth guy. id get along just fine with him. zero fucks.
I do believe that Jay was a fantastic skateboarder. but the fact that he murdered someone just... doesn't make me feel as sad as I would've if he didn't murder someone and take drugs. Just my opinion, I'm not saying I hate him or anything but.... I think you know what I mean.
Jay Adams will experience a renaissance in his skateboarding as soon as he starts losing weight. He has style and energy, but also a lot of extra pounds. He must start a diet NOW!
Yes, I care because I'm his contemporary, and I know that an old guy who wants to pursue a career in this sport must be in extremely good shape! He has to compete with kids that are as light as the breeze! Like I wrote somewhere: He has talent, he has style, but he is also a fat bitch. He must stop eating fast food and start a diet NOW!! His skateboarding will improve a lot! A true skater for life! Now, join me in showing him our support...
He is not competing like in Del Mar, but he is a regular in videos, promos, and events. So he is an example to all the kids who need to understand that drugs, gangs and fast food don't mix with skateboarding. I'll say it again: his style will improve a lot if he gets fit! Moving like a penguin doesn't bring any dignity to the sport! I've been skateboarding recently and since I'm in excellent shape, my style is simple but fluid. No Dunking Donuts for me! Or whatever Jay is eating right now...
