I remember years ago, standing amongst like 10 people in downtown Long Beach, watching Jay play his set. I stood there almost not believing what I was hearing to the point where I considered myself one of the luckiest 10 people on earth. I wished everyone could hear what I was hearing. His personal album still might be my all time favorite. Later, he joined a band I knew as “Black summer crush,” only they had a new name. It was called Rival Sons. Even then, a for years, I would watch Jay, and I would watch Rival Sons. Tiny minimal crowds stood there in disbelief over and over. It makes me very happy that now the world hears these guys. Earth deserves it.
Man, I can't believe I never heard of him before. I saw them, by chance, open up for STP in Houston recently. It was incredible. They're just incredible, and I'm grateful I finally happened upon them. Thanks for sharing your story. I agree, you're lucky indeed.
I can't help but drop my pride and just say how much I truly envy you. I discovered Jay only this year, and it's with deep guilt to admit that. And as for THIS song, today is the first day I've ever heard it. Which is odd since it's a decade-old, but I can't help but feel like this song was waiting for the perfect time to find me and help me immensely at the perfect time. I know that sounds stupid, but this song couldn't have come at a better time in my life to really hit me with perspective. Mr. Buchanan, I am eternally grateful I get to exist on the same planet as you. You'll never truly know how helpful your gift is and what a powerful positive force it is in the universe. Cheers.
When Jay was local playing the Orange County/ Long Beach area I thought he was going to break big. Even though he never did, he's a working musician with a killer band.... and there ain't nothing wrong with that.
If you have never seen The Rival Sons live , you must see them. The first time I saw them I thought to myself that he was singing so loud and hard that he was gonna blow his voice out early. That was the third song into their set. Not only did he prove me wrong , he actually got louder and harder as their set went on. Ever since then , I have seen them whenever they come around. Taking small road trips just to see them. Not only is Jay one of the best singers , but the whole band is equally as talented at their instruments as Jay is with his. I blame the current state of the music industry for these guys not being on top of the Rock Carts. Their body of work is superb compared to other bands putting out similar stuff.
Well put . Seen them in Nashville Tennessee 2018.Will see them again Next April in Nashville On The 6th. Updated 2020 will see them agian in Nashville at the Ryman May the 2nd. Going to be a great show.
Absolutely the most soulful voice. I had the privilege of seeing you at the shelter in Detroit and it is forever ingrained in my brain. This was about 20 years ago. The imprint is powerful. Thank you Jay. ❤
This song has come a long way from years ago, I'm glad Jay has stayed true to his musical desires and continues to share them . I hope we can hear more of Jays' solo stuff with his move to Tennessee . Jay has to be 1 of our greatest modern day lyricists ✌
amazing lyrics! ... We'll never know who we are at best we are some spin off of who we'd like to be there are ghosts in the attic that keep us aware there's more to this than we can see you stare at yourself like a star that gets brighter when you fly in your dreams What the mirror won't show you is the void that you feel is only as large as it seems feel better, you and I, we are gonna fade away together this world is ours while we're in it you grab a hold of my hand and we can take it together we're alive within the one passing minute it could be gold if we make it I believe we can make it so you can stand at the library walls with the great minds of history all the beggars at your feet you know the books are like the faces that you pass everyday but you don't make the effort to meet you stare at yourself like a star that's been dying just to bring you its light but the less that you focus the more you can see we all shine the brightest in peripheral sight, yeah feel better, you and I, we are gonna fade away together well, this world is ours while we're in it grab a hold of my hand and we can take it together we're alive within the one passing minute it could be gold if we make it so we're both out on our own islands but I can still see you, you're seeing me through the prison bars of our own self expectations that were built by the ones who tell us who we're supposed to be to feel feel better, you and I, we are gonna fade away together this world is ours while we're in it grab a hold of my hand and we can take it together we're alive within the one passing minute but it could be gold if we make it I believe we can make it feel better, you and I, we are gonna fade away together you feel, we are gonna fade away together ooh
4 months into 2019 and im still waiting for this video to explode. Edit 11/2021: views dont matter. this is a gem. will be coming back to this for a long time.
I'm brand spanking new to Jay Buchanan, and Rival Sons. I've loved all kinds of music and artists going back to age six and have seen hundreds of performances and shows. I'm pretty sure if you looked up "Artist:" in Webster's, you would find Jay Buchanan as one of its definitions. The guy is not only super-talented; he is a rarity.
We might be missing live shows right now. Jay, you're on my TV singing your heart out on every song, every day. This video is very well done. Simply a man doing what he loves. We love ya for it!
Saw Rival Sons in 2018 and was astounded at Jay's voice, deliverance, stage presence, and passion. He is a true rockstar, a legend already made, and the band is the best thing in rock n roll today, by far. I would compare the gig I saw as one of those small club shows that the biggest artists would do under an assumed name that will be remembered and talked about 20 years from now, like when the Rolling Stones played Sir Morgan's Cove in Worcester, MA under the pseudonym of The Cockroaches in 1981. Yeah, it was that epic.
I've met tons of famous rock stars. I think many of them kind of portray a character, and I don't blame them since it's an act. But having met Jay, he's authentic. How you see him in interviews and playing live is how he actually is. He really is that cool. Super nice dude too.
This song is EVERYTHING. There aren't enough words to describe how beautifully brilliant it is. Whatever drove Jay to write this, thank the muses - the cosmos - this earth for that! 💜
@@askledhead thats actually how I got to know Jay, feels like many moons ago, when it was him - a guitar - maybe a stand up bass & drums. HIS SOLO STUFF IS POWERFUL, so is RS but two different beasts, only one voice tho!😊
Around the year 2000 a friend of mine here in Oklahoma gave me a CD with Jay Buchanan on it. It was his album with Satan is a woman on it. Awesome album. Loved this dude since. Then he was in rival sons and I was glad this guy was getting really noticed. They are so good live. Seen them open for Sabbath. Going to see them in Arkansas in April. Best band out there. There's an acoustic version of them playing hopesly devoted to you by Olivia Newton John. It's a hard choice and would be impossible to sing but Jay does so well on it. This guy is so talented.
Sometimes....art...and Songs come through us without knowing where the came from... It ssems like that some people are just capable of receiving.... JAY...CAN RECEIVE....its so beautiful and it touches something much deeper than just a song....just like a prayer.
I swear, this young man, and his whole crew never cease to amaze me beyond words. Glad you're a Godly man my son and using your power for the good of all mankind. Hope to see you in Atlanta in April. Don't really care what you sing. Hell read to us! Please take care of yourself. The world needs you my friend.
J'ai connu ce groupe cette année et je suis de suite tombé sous le charme de cette voix et de l'énergie dégagée sur les concerts. Revenez vite dans le Nord de la France, je veux vous voir sur scène !👍👍👍
Great voice! Though I haven't heard much from him, he seems to write stuff that means something. How refreshing in this present day music world of absolute garbage. Maybe we're finally getting thru this awful period and it's the beginning of something new (old). I can only dream. Bring it on, Jay and Rival Sons!
Absolutely brilliant. Jay sings this song as well as he ever has. Im glad to see it reborn so newer fans can experience it. This is one of the greatest lyrical songs ever written.
