Ikr perfectly put! As Questlove put it, the average producer cat would take the first snare, hat, kick and just loop it for a beat without thinking about it. But Dilla perfected the use of breaks just as much as he did the dynamics of them as well.

Indeed. Also, he does not apply a blueprint to his sample choices and sonic treatments. Like many do. The man had mad talent and he really studied the art, for years. He blows our minds and we ask "how does he do it?" because he conquered the territory of hiphop essence. It's a combination of talent and dedication. Only when you reach that level and you come back to planet earth, your beats will come out right, natural and just wtf, everything you do pushes the envelope of the art form.

Very well said, I like to credit myself on attention to detail, and always catch producers out on imperfections. But Jay Dee is flawless.

@d00bZubElEk I can confirm that loop was used on the jaylib outtakes tape. I'm sure this is a cd skip because that loop was clear on that joint. Also madlib loop the same joint for Georgia Ann Muldrow . Check the song "The Birth of Petey Wheatstraw"

@d00bZubElEk It honestly sounds like he’s just spamming chopped up samples on his MPC. Towards the end, around 4:06, you can hear how all of the chops that were seemingly being played without reason or structure form a seamless loop. This kind of provides some insight into Dilla’s workflow - he’s spilling some sauce in that segment forsure.

This tape was made in 2000 and has like 60 something Beats (Video title is Wrong)

⁠​⁠@@noaharkadedelgado Right sum of it is on the (bootlegged) Hiccuped Classix from 2000 aka the “2000 batch” but I truly think most of this was actually ‘99 with Track 15 evidently being from early ‘98. We’ll never be too sure tho.

It sounds just like that time period with the drum/sample/texture selection but the odd time signature may suggest otherwise. Lmao this is killing me if all those beats were truly made and released in the span of a single year then idk what to think about this “human”.

Yeah, they're tagged like that on the bootleg, with tracks 1-14 and track 21 missing, no idea about those.. perhaps they're actual lost tracks or that's just the way the bootlegger had them tagged with some other stuff.

Chris Huerta I don’t. But I know someone who does have it and I been trying to work out a trade for it. I’ve managed to get some tapes from this person before and Leftovers is what I’m trying to get next. I would say it’s almost impossible to get. But it does exist. It’s taken me years of hunting it down and still don’t have it. But it’s at the tips of my fingers. Soon.
