Real talk bro. To be honest I think I discovered him through exhibit c a bit over a year ago. And song by song I am slowly understanding how complex his rhymes are for real. I still don't know shit but slowly realizing this nigga is in the conversation for best rapper of all time. I wish more people appreciated this shit but at the same time it's hiphops best kept secret. But be sure when this fool drops that fuckin album it will be straight up fire. All these wack ass rappers these days should get out a pen and pad and take notes.
@@younggucci5197 I think he's alluding to how's school's don't teach you life skills , but will teach you some shit you won't need. The jackals being an allegory for schools molding your brain / person a certain way.
@@SonsOfMars. Jackals are animals that resemble a dog. Because they're very smart, they're mentioned in many African folktales, where they're known as tricksters. A trickster fools the other animals and tricks them into doing things they don't want to do. Thanks google
If you're seeing and hearing things that aren't there while you're awake, you're mad. If you're asleep, you're normal and having a dream. So it's the question of whether you're awake or asleep that makes the difference; and in this case, since he wasn't allowed to sleep, it's as though his normal dreaming pattern began to show itself
@@cheddarboyzz313 its called A Million in the Morning, a dude deprived himself of sleep for days to raise awareness for homelessness if I recall correctly. EDIT: the homeless thing was wrong, it was a movie watching competition hahaha
oh BEARS fun fact. A Million in the Morning is one of the original Netflix specials. It’s not on the streaming service anymore but I think you can actually rent the dvd from them through the mail. They need to just put it back on Netflix to stream
Had been hearing about this guy for years and recently watched his documentary about his life and decided to check him out and my god this dude was so ill I mean he was a cold piece of work...his mixtape has been on repeat all night
Wow the first positive comment I have received. You should be awarded with a high honor like the nobel prize, or better yet the Patents of Nobility album.
Dude is dope but Hip Hop/Rap is polluted with trash rappers. Dude will be a diamond in the dirt. A lot of ignorant people will overlook him or say he's some rapper who caters to nerds.
Now I like EVERY Jay Electronica song just about. Only song I don't really like is Annakin's Prayer out of ALL his music. That is something that I can't say about ANY artist besides Tupac, and he definitely isn't coming out with anymore music. Please drop the album Jay, whatever you do, Just PLEASE drop the damn album.
jay electronica woulda been a huge success at the time. look at how kendrick lamar got huge, jay would have been even bigger than kendrick if he just dropped one album
all my melinated people should understand this song. im loosing my mind, ice on my nut sack trying to freeze time, jay electronica is deep. peace and prosperity to all
For example, today i have listened to Jedi Mind Tricks (Vinnie Paz), Mos Def, Big L, Earl Sweat, Aesop Rock, P.O.S., Astronautilis, Common Market (RA Scion), Immortal Technique, Ab Soul, Jay Z and Jay E. I wouldn't even think of comparing one of these to another.
I don't like the term "conscious" rapper....its a throw off...you can't listen to music "unconsciously" ...believe me the brain is taking it all in....
but what i like about jay elec is that he makes you think. he makes you use your brain, unlike all these new rappers. i guess thats what they mean when they say "concious rapper"
Phantom Opera There are still conscious and unconscious rappers whether you like the term or not. It makes sense that some rappers are more conscious then others.
Phantom Opera it has nothing to do with the listener. The mc him or herself is considered conscious, because of the information they choose to speak on. The conscious rapper won't rap about twerking, michael kors, or anything materialistic. When Jay Elec refers to Sirius, Dogons, Rumsfeld etc..., he's referring to the hidden truths.
A documentary called A Million In the Morning. It's about a group of people trying to break a guiness record and watch 57 movies in a row without sleep. The film crew tried to stay up with the contestants and they all starting hallucinating
he probably watch alot of movies well whats more than probably without being exact cause alot of rappers watch alot of movies Kanye, Cudi, Pharrell, i watch alot of movies and i rap (15 and working on my first mixtape might not come out till im 17 i have a speech impediment theyre not horrible i just want to become great and thats holding me back any way) I watch alot of movies and i find the dopest shit to sample like 500 Days Of Summer dope movie to sample tons of quotables same as Juice
@Jesus Lopez Lol I was just thinking of this very comment a few weeks ago while watch another Jay video. I couldn't remember what I said and I couldn't remember which video it was I commented on. Now I know, thanks fate, for intervening. Now I can sleep.
its not from a song, its a clip from the documentary ''million in the morning'' which this song is inspired by, its about a guy who went 5 days without sleeping
Subject matter kiddo, we don't mention that name around here. Different branch of hip hop. Ether you don't understand the areas Jay E has addressed in his work or you are overly entertained by Em's flow and rhythm, (which i will admit, it doesn't get better. ) Either way, when ever hip hop heads see people comparing rappers who don't relate we immediately dismiss them as being ill informed, dull witted, band wagoner, experienced or just ignorant.
