It’s mind-boggling she’s a radio, personality and has been in the industry for so long. Actually, she has the attitude like she doesn’t really care about the type of material that’s been pushed out to the masses. They were so important when they said that there is not a lot of variety in music today that coming from the radio programmers, they should have a fiduciary duty to their listeners.

Radio personalities don't have the freedom to select music on major airwaves at least on major morning/afternoon airtime. At night, all day, but no one listens then LOL. Those airwaves COST and only the majors got the bread, backing, and favors to do it. Program directors usually program radio friendly songs from major artists on major labels. Works for labels because their top artist get major exposure equaling MONEY, great ratings for the radio for popular aritst and MONEY, and the big artist get exposure which can translate to MONEY. Giving an unknown artist a look is a RISK of the MONEY train so they take a safe bet. It's rare if not impossible for a indie artist (not a subsidiary label that got major backing lol) to even break at radio. Hell favors were pulled to get that Jay Elect record out and that got some looks but the NUMBERS weren't consistent to get in heavy rotation.

If I'm understanding right, Jay Electronica books shows and then when it comes time to perform, he's not feeling it anymore? Honestly, the 2-3 times, I've seen him, the shows were excellent (aside from the shots he took at Biggie on a rooftop pre-pandemic and the crowd was not feeling it and it got real tense) but since 2020, he's cancelled at least 3 shows at Sony Hall at the last minute, with the latest one a couple of weeks ago, and it's just very unfortunate

Jay and Andre situation is totally different. Dre gave you iconic music for a decade. Jay basically been teasing that long. As far as the industry...it sucks bruh. I'm an audio engineer who's worked with people on the level of just breaking into the industry and if you're not totally dedicated to what it is, you will hate it. It's also changed a lot from the golden era because the internet allowed so many amateurs and fake ass businessmen and label owners who basically treat artists like toys. If you can imagine how the modeling industry works, the music industry works just like that.

I heard him say in an interview for KD3 that working with Hit allowed him to lock into the music process without all the extra BS that comes along with doing it on the big labels. I agree with Angela Yee that no one listens to the radio now-a-days. Everyone streams and creates their own playlists. Or they will buy an album and add it to a playlist. Personally, I haven't listened to the radio since the late-90s. And these young heads definitely aren't listening to the radio.
