It is so sad to see how beautiful the past was and that this time will never come back. The magic of that time has completely disappeared today. Thank you Jay for letting us share these great years with you.
The good ole days. I can hardly believe I'm looking back at 2000 as good ole days. 23 years just flew. This was pre 9/11 . The world really was way more chill.
Well, as they said, "the world will never be the same", and it hasn't been. That was the beginning of all this tyranny against the US citizens. After 911, the next major crisis was the plandemic. And there will be another one so they can further shape the world they want - complete control, track, stack and pack, get us eating insects, and transhumanism. Not to mention, slowly killing us off. Things will only get worse as we march toward 2030 which is their goal to have a lot of their draconian measures implemented.
These were great times for me. I was middle age, lots of money, energy and living good. Now I'm old and dying. To bad that we grow old and die. Thank you Jay and Kevin for all the good times and memories ❤
I've been cleaning out recently and found a box of old VHS tapes. Those were the days. Remember the occasional stuck reel and you had to pry the cartridge out? LoL Good old days! Pretty sure I have a VCR machine somewhere about too.
2000, what a great year. My Grandfather and I would watch Leno every night, religiously. He has since passed away. It was also my senior year of high school, and the same year that I met my first love. Seeing stuff like this brings a nostalgic warmth to my heart, and reminds me of a time when I was truly happy.
Are we sad posting my friend? Let it begin. I used to watch these on an old worn down couch in my grandparents living room. So cozy! My grandpa was still alive, my mom was so young and healthy, and my sisters were toddlers and not drug addicts. They were happy back then. I would give up being this tough, bearded, middle aged man and go back to being scrawny nerdy me to have those days back. Simpler times.
Indeed! I can’t believe how many of these I watched once I re-discovered them! I worked for a newspaper for a number of years, laying out the ads first, then later I became a reporter/ writer. So, this kind of thing is right up my alley! 😂
I've been waiting him for over 12 yrs I'm from Somerville mas my pals aot older than me ..I'm blessed. ...jay is really Massachusett "" Pisssa"" haha hell get thar love ya jay
Life was normal! I think the year 2000 was my generation's end of "normal". The next year was 9/11 and all the ridiculousness that ensued since then. Maybe I'm just old now but the rate of change in our culture has seemed to speed up since 2000. Of course an earlier generation wished to return to a time "back before Elvis, before that Vietnam War came along. ". At a certain point in life it just seems to get ridiculous. Around 2000 was kind of a sweet spot though.
I remember watching this back in 2000 with my grandmother. 20 years later and it's still funny and just as good as it was in 2000. Jay leno was always the best tonight show host.
I remember sneaking out to the living room when I was little to watch these when I was really young. After awhile my parents just let me stay up to watch them and once they were over, it was off to bed.
Same with me and Letterman, lol. I just really needed to be allowed to stay up for the Top 10. Dad would usually send me to bed after that, because it was just usually celeb interviews after that anyway and I didn't care about those as a 10-year-old LOL
Same, my parents let me watch though by this point but I remember sneaking on the TV in my bedroom in the mid-90s. I was 14-15 when these aired in 2000, but I always loved Headlines. Only part of his show I thought was funny. I was a much bigger fan of Letterman, especially as an adult.
You made me curious. This video has been 'watched' for 8,782,446 hours. If my math is right that's about 1002 years. From Feb. 10 - April 1 it was viewed for 975,624 hours. So 111 years-ish. That stretch is by far the biggest bump it's had. It's unreal something I taped 20 years ago with no idea that more than a couple of people might ever have even seen it, has eaten up a millennia. Now imagine what a really popular channel's analytics look like. I imagine Netflix has comsumed billions of years of people's time.
That's crazy. Nobody watched, or even had a TV in their room, when I was in college from '88-'92. One guy on a baseball scholarship did have a small black and white that he used to watch baseball by himself and chewed sunflower seeds.
I used to always go to the living room at 11:30 to watch Leno with my grandmother. She would always switch to QVC at midnight to see "Today's Special Value". I love watching this. Reminds me of her.
forcingfate I just commented the same thing. I’d love Monday nights and I’d always remind my grandma that it was time for headlines and we’d sit on the couch and I’d end up laying with my head in her lap and fall asleep. Man I miss her, wish I had a time machine.
Iam so,so sorry about the passing of your grandma!!! 😭😭😭😭,Iam glad you have those memories forcingfate!!!! My grandma passed away 3 years ago from cancer,I miss her so,so,so,so much!!!!
People can be mean. I world love to say tytytyty to the creator of this compilation 💜 💖 💓 💕 💗 ♥️ 💜 💖 💓 💕 💗 ♥️ I will be watching this over and over for years to come
Mary Adams I miss Jay and Kev a lot! Fallon isn't even a pale shadow of what Jay was. The few times I've seen a few minutes of Jimmy, it's obvious the Tonight Show is far too much weight for him, just way too much for him period. He lols constantly nervous, won't let guests get in any words edgewise and nervously laughs. It's awkward. Jay and Kev showed how you do a late night show.
If you’re doing a tv show, this a gift from above. People from all over the country sending you free material, you just pick the best stuff. Hadn’t seen any of this, because I was more of a Letterman viewer, but this is probably Jay’s strong suit - taking relatable, genuine stuff and making it funnier. Similar to his ‘Jay Walking’ street interviews. Thanks very much for putting this together.
lol me too. those were always my favorite segments with Jay, always made me lol, they were just the best. Most times Jay couldn't keep a straight face during them: Jay: "Uh-oh, it's the Boner-Holder wedding!" xD
And i was wondering were did half of my life go? sleeping all day and watching JAY every night. The laugh of that BOLD black guitar player on the background is stucked on my brain.
You nailed it! I think that's why so many of us converted from Letterman to Leno in 1995. We tuned in on Hugh Grant night and saw Jay and Kevin doing Beyondo and having the best time. None of the angsty irony from Dave's world and it was a surprisingly better way to end a night. It really all turned around for Leno when Kevin moved into Branford's position.
Mike Stevenson Exactly. I'd been watching Jay from night one, it was obvious while Branford was a good, talented guy he wasn't going to be bandleader for long regardless of if Kev had taken over for him or not. Branford was just going in a different direction and he's done well for himself. When Kev took over, at first he was basically doing Branford's job to the letter. Then suddenly, and I can't remember how long after taking over it was, Jay decided one night to improv try some banter with him during the monologue. Bam, you could tell right away they had very good chemistry. Over a pretty short period of time after that, Jay added more and more monologue banter until he was a full regular part of that. Then he tried having Kev do some of the comedy bits/sketches with him and their chemistry got even stronger. Kev said in an interview several years back all of it just happened organically and that he didn't see any of it coming AT ALL. Also said it was the best time of his life, he loved every minute of it. Promoting Kev to bandleader when Branford left was the right call. Jay got his Ed McMahon...he got REALLY lucky, that night he decided to try the monologue banter paid off big time. Both Jay and Kev made the show what it was. Miss them both, I haven't watched late night or the Tonight Show since Jay left!
Sorry to be offtopic but does someone know a tool to get back into an instagram account..? I was dumb lost my password. I appreciate any help you can offer me!
I loved Jay Leno and miss seeing him nightly on TV. Clean humor and his love for his wife. His first show after 911 was so respectful and sensitive to how the country was feeling. I was happy to find Headlines on RU-vid. So funny!
The country was feeling delicate and sensitive and the Bush administration took full advantage of that. 25 years later; they dug ourselves into a hole on the world stage, Russia and China followed our example as a leader of the world by unilaterally invading any sovereign nation they wanted.
I was 3 years old in 2000 wow. Takes me back . I miss watching these with my mother back around 2003-2005. Good times when life was simple. Sure it had bad things going on back then but the good things were a lot better than now though. Tv was a lot better, family was around more, only had to go to school no work and just the overall feel of life you could never feel in 2018. Guarantee it
Chris56076 you are what 21 years old? Believe me when you hit 35 you’ll be longing for the time you were in your early 20s so just enjoy them and stop romanticizing the past.
I used to watch this segment religiously, and as of today in 2023.. I can say it was definitely ahead of it's time and we didn't even kno it with social media and everything, hell.. I probably misspelled a few words jus now (but don't blame me, blame my autocorrect) 😂
I was a fan of Johnny Carson for decades, but after he retired, I watched Jay Leno as host. Alot of his monologues, headlines, Jaywalking, and stuff from the 99 cent store were hilarious.
@@dennislopez8661 Jay Leno was a legend in his own time. I know some didn't find it funny but I loved him. And at 42 maybe I am ancient but we all get old.
Me too! I used to tune in on this tiny black and white TV/weather radio thing I had in my room while I was supposed to be doing my homework. 😁 This video brings me back a fragment of a feeling of those relatively carefree years just before September 2001...
@@dennislopez8661 , logical fallacy: false dichotomy. A false dichotomy claims that only one of two things can be true when that isn't, in fact, the case. A single person can find Conan O'Brien and Jay Leno's headlines funny. I am such a person. Therefore, I disprove your claim. If you would rather say that you personally find Conan O'Brien funny but do not find Jay Leno or headlines to be funny, that would be true and logically sound.
You can tell from Dennis's comments that not only has he never watched Leno, but he didn't watch Conan when he hosted the Tonight show for the short time he was on. It wasn't the right fit for him, and he ended up having a very successful career despite losing the Tonight show gig. Dennis is just hating on Leno because the internet told him to and isn't capable of thinking for himself.
I haven’t laughed this hard in awhile. I miss him on the Tonight show. I used get off work at 10:30 pm, rush home to shower & get in bed so I could watch Jay. He was hilarious.
that Jay Leno bit was frcking hillarious! I was almost crying! Unfortunately, I live in the UK and so have mever had the chance to see his night-time stuff; cripplingly funny!
brokenbrain goth I'm super shocked no episodes were shown on UK TV! I figured they were shown regularly even if they'd been slapped on during overnights. It was great fun, headlines, the comedy skits all of it! Glad RU-vid has some of the Headlines segments for you to enjoy!
