Dope reaction! Your energy came through and I wonder every time why I don’t listen to that gem more often! Jay was born and raised in Seattle and left the states at 17 to pursue a career in Kpop without really knowing what that meant exactly. You can tell from very early on that he was heavily influenced by black American music and pop culture. He started off dancing to MJ and others in his living room cuz he was shy and joined a bboy crew called Art of Movement in high school later on. He has been boxing since then to this day. He said he fell in love with Hip Hop when he was in 7th grade when his older cousin reluctantly played him Warten G‘s Regulate after he begged him to hear what he was listening to. Huge influences were Jay-Z (nowadays more from a business perspective) and Usher and Chris Brown (in terms of his image and sound) as well as Michael Jackson of course. When he came to Korea he barely spoke Korean (even as a non speaker u can tell in very old 2PM clips that his Korean was rough) and was kind of an outcast since he was so different than his Korean peers. He stood out a lot but was popular as well because of that. He put in the work and started pursuing RnB and Hip Hop Music as a solo artist back when both genres were super underrated in Korea. Since his name was so big at the time he managed to survive in the industry outside of K-Pop and is now the biggest solo artist of his country yet alone the biggest player in Korea‘s RnB/Hip Hop Industry both as an artist but throughout the past let’s say 4 years specially through his business activities as well. First Asian artist to get signed to Jay-Z‘s Roc Nation (how crazy that is to get signed by one of your childhood heros) and first Korean artist to launch his own liquor brand/company. It’s called Won Soju and about to launch this year. Founder and CEO of the two biggest hip hop/RnB record labels/management companies in Korea AOMG and H1GHR MUSIC. Btw Cha Cha Malone is Jay‘s high school friend whom he started making music with in 2010 and who is also part of AOM (Art of Movement the bboy crew from Seattle).
