When Jay mentioned about the journey of different high end brands ,in order to tell the difference of new boulder 2150, he is right. My self I been through over dozen of pre and amplifiers that cost over $140,000 European brands. That why I totally agreed with Jay. Cheers

Excellent shootout , really appreciate the attention to detail you put into these videos , would be a treat to be able to hear these in person . Synergy with a system is an absolute must second only to room acoustics Imo and it sounds like you’re on the right track . Thanks for sharing 👍

Jay, when I first saw how long the video was, I thought to myself "this is too long". Then I just settled in and I really enjoyed it. You have obviously thought much about production and direction in addition to your evaluation methods. It really shows and it appears that essentially all of us loved it. So keep up the great work and can't wait to see where we go with Boulder and Synergistic Research. I'm glad that you also put such emphasis on synergy/system matching. It is THE key to system building and getting yourself where you want to go.

Nice to hear that what you hear in the room is pretty much the same that most of us heard online. I like the format of blind testing. No brand bias that way, and we have to rely on our ears vs what we think we know. Which is how it should be.

I can confirm the pairing with Audioquest and Boulder, I've used the Firebird Source PC on a Boulder 1110, and it was a very romantic and dreamy sound, like in a hall with the vocals sounding like it's somewhat muffled, once switched to Nordost Tyr 2 on the preamp, all the transparency, speed and clarity have all snapped back. In my experience Audioquest cable is tuned for thick tone and musicality, not detail and transparency, perhaps that matched well with Gryphon's bold and forward sound.

I’m surprised. I didn’t hear it on the Tube. This stuff is out of my league. I run KEF with Parasound as reference and I must have missed something. You made this clear in your commentary. The Gryphon was hands down winner in both evals on my KEF phones through an iPad. Your cables cost more than my amp so I get what you’re saying about experience. I’m just surprised at the result of the configurations. You give great insight. Maybe ya saved me a few bucks here.

Thanks very much for your 'in room' thoughts, of course headphones can never give anything like the full effect of your system, I was interested to hear Wireworld speaker cables were used in the original Boulder dem, can't remember if this was mentioned or not, but I was blown away with the Boulder's then, only to find out I preferred the Gryphon when going head to head as did many I look forward to further experiments and fully appreciate your hard work and knowledge even though these components are now well out of my price range

Perhaps a Boulder 866 Intergrated with Wilson Sabrina and Synergistic Research loom for my smaller room...
@bikemike1118
@bikemike1118 3 года назад
I also do feel that could be a „charming“ combination…although I‘m not so sure about the Synergistic cabling. I used to have their former Reference interconnects (not speaker cables!) in my former chain and I found them to be ‚okay‘ but nothing special. Don’t know the newer Synergistic stuff but they still seem to produce the same kind of „stiff“ cables… I personally would probably go with a different brand for cables.

Great video Jay. You said when you had the review of the Lux M900U, cables make a big difference. Could you make the Gryphon Diablo 300 sound close to the Mephisto just by adding quality power cords and speaker cables? Thank you for all the hard work and input!!!!

Great comparison thank you. This may not be practical of course for many reasons...but it would be fantastic if you could do a comparison between the SR cables and Transparent Magnum Opus cables. The SR cables are meant to be giant killers...and as Wilson speakers use Transparent cabling...it would be a very interesting comparison.

Exactly! You said it better than I did. The Boulder envelops you in sound, while the Gryphon is flat. I don't know what all the people who picked the Gryphon were listening on. But through my system the difference was night and day in favor of the Boulder.

the "blind testing" via the power cords is fair. Next time, also don't reveal which amp is playing in the first video - then, reveal the amp on next vid. The way you used the different color background was perfect. Nice work.

Perhaps this has been asked previously, but I have been curious about the sound we hear from recordings of systems posted on RU-vid. Have you ever compared the sound of your own RU-vid posts played back through your system to the original sound? I would expect some degradation due to the recording process and RU-vid compression, but I don’t know the extent of this on the usual audiophile metrics in particular soundstage, forwardness and detail retrieval.
@jaysaudiolab
@jaysaudiolab 3 года назад
There's always some loss of sound quality
@Wobulater

Can you quantify how significant it is? Is it enough to make the difference in sound between the Gryphon and Boulder systems on RU-vid closer than you hear in person?

Great work and explanations. Here’s some feedback to help grow your channel. Limit length to 15 minutes max preferably 8 minutes, if more time is needed break into multiple videos. This will also provide better feedback. The words on the videos need an upgrade. Why not use that screen to put up a presentation or pics during your talks? Add some humor, something unexpected. Jay’s Journey has a ring to it. Consider that or Jays Journey - Audio Lab or Jays Audio Journey. Play with that a little. When doing A B compares, do some editing and line up the song played and switch every 10 seconds between them. The format I saw on another RU-vid video comparison between a MartinLogan, Magnepan, and Sonas? was great. Check that out. You know your stuff and have the experience to make good content, just needs repackaging.

Hi Jay, totally agree with wat you said in your video. Especially since I had same preferences as you, about Gryphon as the winner of round 1 and Boulders as winners of round 2. This just confirms that system integration is so important at this level of audio gear. Looking forward to your purchase of full loom of SR Gallileo SX cables. This will surely be another step in the right direction, when these puppies will be hooked up to the Boulders. Congrats again on the titanic work your are doing for all of us audiophiles. P.S. Didn't know that Beavis and Butthead were audiophiles...:-)

My room has same size as yours, my ceiling is 12' , 3' higher than yours. I have a Mephisto and Aleixa, I know it is totally wrong to use BIA H(Mephisto) to drive XLF in that small room, many details will lost, and whole sound stange will turn foggy because of too rich bass. Boulder 2150 and Mephisto are two defferent level amps, it is an insult to Mephisto to put them together, I think this is the biggest mistake you made. You should at least use Boulder 3050 please, show some respect to Mephisto.

And now you are at bugatti veyron level. But fine tuning even. You are now experimenting with tyre pressure and fuel octane....
