Lots of excellent reviews of these speakers on RU-vid from those who frequented the show, even from many doubters. Could be expectation bias in some cases but I doubt that was true for most listeners. I think you were a little unfair here. There’s nothing wrong with not liking the speaker, though the listening room is often not ideal in shows. But a negative opinion would have been enough. You seemed more interested in making your audience believe that your predictions will come to pass than any real analysis of the speaker short of lacking bass.

Cheap audio man took a massive dump on the GTs that he positively reviewed, so to each his own i guess. These guys seem to spend more time listening to equipment, than to music. I personally feel (good) accurate measurements generally correlate to good speakers regardless of cost. People seem to like ZU, and for as many as they sell, they only scarcely pop up in the used market. If these MOFI speakers compare favorably to ZU, i doubt people will be getting rid of them. I guess time will tell.

Jay, these are exactly my thoughts about the MoFi Speakers! It feels like 80% of the entire RU-vid Loudspeaker universe revolves around these MoFi speakers! Everything that Andrew Jones does is always a huge show and he reinvents the wheel every time, with each of his many, many speaker models. Whenever Jones presents his speakers in public, I always think he is the perfect insurance agent, talkative, funny and even likeable, he is talking someone a button on the cheeky. In any case, I had the same thoughts as you. And I think you can still say that without making someone outraged.

Or, you know, it could be a GOOD SOUNDING speaker from a designer who is very, very well respected in the industry. This speaker could have been put out by anyone in the industry and the fact that it was designed by Andrew Jones means it's going to sound incredible for the price, it's why he was revered at TAD and ELAC. Is it better than a Wilson Alexx V? No, but for the price it's spectacular, and I have no relation to MoFi other than as a customer.

I think he is brilliant and likely has a good design. I'll not trade my big speakers for this, but I would look at it if and when I move from my big house into a condo and need to downsize. Hopefully Jay's prediction is true and there will be a ton available on the used market. BTW, I did not even know who Mofi was until Andrew got a job there. I still don't buy vinyl so I could care less if they had some controversy in other parts of its business. I am only interested in this speaker from their entire business. Similarly, I will choose to buy a Sony product based on its merits and do not care that Sony did media distribution.

Maybe it is hype, but maybe these speakers are scaring the sh-t out of an industry that is full of over priced, and over hyped equipment. I think a rant against $10,000 cables is more warranted. How much would I lose buying a pair of $100,000 speakers or an amp, after selling them a few months later? $40,000? How much would I lose when the manufacturer conviently comes out with an upgraded model that every reviewer says is now much better than what I just bought? Now I'm down another $20,000. I went to the Capital Audio Show. I am not saying that the Mofi Sourcepoint 10's were the best I heard at the show. However, they definitely sounded better than some $50,000 speakers I heard. It could be the music they were playing. When I arrived home, I ordered a pair. If I lose $2000 after a few months, so be it. Yes, maybe Mofi is in trouble legally, and maybe these speakers are a treat to the audio industry. Maybe Andrew Jones will be forced to sell the Source Point 10's through another manufacturer. All scenarios could be true. I still have a pair of $100 Pioneer speakers that Andrew Jones made. They kick a-s, so i am not cancelling my order.

I don't think it was designed to take on the no barrier high-end. It was designed to fill a void between your 1k speaker and say a 8k speakers with a particular sound signature. In which very few companies I feel do or give a enough sound signature options. I just had the Kef Reference 1 in house to play with as well as a set of Focal Sopra 1. As good as they both were at micro details, finesse and imaging they both were missing something. There always feels like there is a trade off in a lot of speakers in that price range from what I like. It's either finesse or grunt and not much in between for under 6k. Some want a tout mid range, with some meat, as well as some micro details. I don't need something that goes down to 21hz, Im not listening to Dj magic mike tracks but when the bass guitar strums at volume I want my nuts to vibrate, but I also what to be able to place that instrument in its space. There are speakers that can do both as I'm sure most of the speakers you have owned do both and do it very well, however most I found were above the 10k mark even in the used market or full towers. I think these will compete very well with Mission or Harbeth's sound at a fraction of the price. They may not be all what everyone wants them to be but I think this fits a niche and maybe a good thing as other companies may follow suite in or around this price.

Very rare to be shocked by how good a system is based on its low price compared to the ultra high end. Usually the disclaimer is its really good for its price, But is that such a bad thing? For many applications maybe you dont need that ultra high end but sometimes a good system will be good enough like maybe a Magnepan 3 series or even a good bookshelf thats even less expensive. If you want to be shocked check out how good personal audio has become ie headphones what you can get for the price, I would say certain headphone systems even beat the high end in detail and transparency rather easily at the expense of sound stage and the physical brutality of the low end sometimes. Again one searches for the right system for the application. And the advice of waiting in the second hand market is great, it applies to the high end as well. You could get a Raidho for half the MSRP if you wait for it - thats fantastic value for the ultra high end. Cheers.

Once your acclimated though the detail and transparency is unreal maybe because there is no reflection and the speakers is an inch from you. Check out Sennheiser 560s that's less than USD 200 with a good DAC the detail you get easily outstrips midrange systems like a properly amplified Kef LS50 Meta to start....Happy Listening.

Mobile Fidelity coming out with a near $4,000 speaker after being criticized about their digital records costing too much shows how much impact this Mofi controversy caused. None, virtually. They aren't about to let a bunch of people on the forums change how expensive they price their products. They continue on, same as usual. If it weren't for "some" money loss due to this semi-scandal; maybe the speakers would be $2,000 retail instead of $3,800. Most speakers if you look inside and screw out the drivers are drivers not made by the speaker company, but sourced from manufacturers who make speaker drivers. Sometimes in a $10,000/pr. loudspeaker there will be only $400 worth of drivers inside. They did seem to go to the trouble of making their own special driver for this speaker. That's a good sign.Hearing it at a show = you don't really know its potential. That's why credible audio reviewers live with a speaker and play it every day for a week or two before passing judgement and writing their review.. Maybe it is great, maybe it is only very good. Who knows at this point, except someone who owns it with great associated electronics, who has been listening to it for quite a while on a variety of recordings of various types of music in the relaxing environment of their home.

The Magnepan LRS was hyped by sort of every reviewer and magazine but when it was measured (probably the most extensive review done by Amir in audiosciencereview) it turned out to be extremely bad, not even close to good enough. This has been done in the industry before.

That disqualifies most high profile reviews as full of B.S. (not you Jay) However, that has absolutely nothing to do with the MoFi speaker. Andrew Jones was hired by MoFi two years ago! The question is how do these speakers compare to the Klipsch Forte 4's and Dynaudio Special 40's of the world? Those are its competition and none other. If the answer is they are as good or better, then MoFi has done its job. Jay is NOT being cynical at all; there was a store in Brooklyn Heights called Innovative Audio and as soon as the The Absolute Sound gave a rave to a product, the dealer carried that product! It was a closed incestuous circle; the store was not carrying the product because they believed in said product but because of what was written in the magazines, hence baked in customers. People used to call this "flavor of the month" products; reminds me of stock traders who "churn" their clients; in that market it is called "pump and dump"; they would hype a stock, the price would go up, and then sell it off. In audio it is the reviewer saying I was hearing things I never heard before; one year later crickets; magazines need new content to feed the beast; onto speaker xyz, it even beats the MoFi Sourcepoint 10; it is the new king and gets the crown at this price. And so it goes; end of rant.

Sold out quickly and got a $500 25% price increase. Since the SP10 is often compared to the $5k Mission 770 let's not get into China vs UK I truly think the KLH strategy is what mofi is planning. Under price, over deliver and raise the price to $4500. For the record, everything I've seen is $3699, $3999 with stands. Not sure where the $3800 keeps coming from?
