One of the greatest memories of my childhood. Freshman in high school. Second Level right above 1st base with a view of Texiera. Not the best seats but they were seats at the World Series. There was no better experience than getting to see Jay-Z perform live, AjBurnett Pitch a gem. Matsui go off, and watch the collapse of Pedro Martinez with "Who's your daddy being shouted by everyone in the stadium" Actually I lied, Getting to brag about it in school the next day was an even better feeling (lol)
This makes me wonder if Game 2 tickets were way pricier than game 1 or 6 because you were also getting the Jay-Z/Alicia Keys performance plus a World Series Game.
The roar of the crowd when Jay sings "I made the Yankee hat more famous then a Yankee can". This brings back great memories of the 2009 WS Championship."
Alicia keys voice is on another level. Always find rappers. But singers like this, where they can hold a note - better chance at finding gold nugget in a river. I know for a fact most of the players was looking to see if they can date her.
Agreed. Frankly -- it was Alicia's vocals on the chorus that made this a hit, not Jay Z's mediocre rap. Yankees will be the Yankees long after no one remembers who TF Jay Z was.
This song reminds me of my dad. I remember watching the game together in the summer of '09. He passed away in 2016 and I really miss him. When I see this performance I think of my dad and Im grateful for the memory.
Westbrook GOAT I hate the Yankees but when I saw this performance I said to myself “watch this propel them to win the World Series.” And sure enough it did. I agree with you.
I’m from TN but been a Yankees fan my whole life, and I agree with you. Game one they were sluggish, but I believe this pumped them back up. Other than the subway series this was my favorite series.
Once you get the captain Derek jeter who always the most serious in the clubhouse vibing to the music you should know that there was a feeling he and the rest of the Yankees were feeling with that
Phillies fan here. That was a rough series for us. Haven't been back since. Just fired Gabe Kapler 14 hours ago. Missing those days. Gonna definitely be rooting for the Yankees though to kick the shit out of Houston.
What a moment. Jay-Z and Alicia Keys, two of New York’s finest. Playing for New York’s finest: Jeter Rivera Sabathia Texiera Pettite Posada A-Rod Matsui The 2009 World Series Champions, the unstoppable New York Yankees.
Watching this for the first time, and although my mother moved me out of the Bronx at the age of 7, I'm still a proud New Yorker. This was epic! "I'm the new Sinatra, and since I made it here, I can make it anywhere..." I made it.
I remember this night- was working the night shift and caught this beginning on the tv in the cafeteria of a place we stopped for dinner before continued working
As a Yankees fan, this brings back so many good memories... but also makes me depressed we haven't been able to get back to the world series since then..
Remember that night they won i was dead like 7,niggas was goin nuts outside making wild noise😭💯 if you from the X for real we rock them yankee hats with pride after that night
As a Phillies fan, I hated how much I this!! My mom’s family are all from the Bronx and Brooklyn - huge Yankees fans - so even though we lost, it was a great series! MLB needs to have Super Bowl Halftime-like performances.
