He always had this in him, Jay is honestly a master at restraint. He's like Snoop, he has his 100% final form tucked in but never needed to use it until he has someone to match it with. He is the greatest rapper in terms of contribution to hip-hop. But lyrical ability, I'd put quite a few rappers over him like Rakim, Pharoahe Monch, Big Pun, Nas, Em, and even Royce.

I was tuned into this back when it aired on radio. I was a 9 old kid holing the record and play buttons together on them old cassette radio players. Held the buttons pressed for the full jayz interview and freestyle. At that time I never knew what he looked like so I was like wow this guy is so sick I wish I could watch him spit these bars. I don't know why but I always imagined him as some small thin guy lol was very surprising to finally see him on the fiesta video I think . Legendary !

back before the internet was poppin rappers would recycle bars for freestyles. and also not sure of the timeline here but a lot of times rappers would use these radio stations when piecing up work then use what they liked on wax.

I can’t place a lot of these bars to songs, but if he’s spitting bars from one song I’m sure there’s bars he’s used in songs sprinkled all throughout this. Saying “freestyle” gives the impression that it’s off the dome. If they’re lines he’s already used it’s not exactly off of the dome, is it? Still impressive he’s able to string together like that, I’m not taking anything away from Hov I had him as GOAT before the KD trilogy from Nas. These are just definitely recycled lines.
