He definitely graded on a 8-10 scale. No way in hell is Jay an 8 and up in EVERYTHING 🤦🏾‍♂️. If Jay is an 8 in vocabulary then Lupe must be God Tier at Infinity. There is no number for Lupe if Jay is an 8 in vocab 😂

@Tristan I feel having a good voice is an underappreciated aspect of being a dope emcee because usually u would only associate a voice with a vocalist who sings. In regards to Jay I feel this is one of his weaker areas as I feel he doesn't have a great rap voice.

Busta has WAY more impressive flows and I could easily demonstrate this on a track by track basis. In fact busta has a verse on the chris brown song 'look at me now' which he is famous just for the flow alone. Jay z has no song where people who dont even know the lyrics just emulate his flow I could use your logic to say lil yachtys floe is better than Jay z 'I like it more'.. if i prefer lil yachty to jay does not mean i can give yachty a higher rating for flow just cos i prefer it more

I feel like there's a criteria lacking. One that would include metaphors, punchlines, alliterations, etc. Maybe replace vocabulary by wordplay (or just add wordplay). Wordplay would include vocabulary, since it's what words you choose and how you use them, but it'd be larger as well, because vocabulary is just about the words you use, whereas wordplay is how you use them.

Also, originality and innovation ressemble each other a little too much. You could rebrand originality to substance maybe (use of concepts, storytelling, subject matter, etc.) and keep either innovation or originality to mean "does he bring something new to the game or is he mostly influenced by others?"

Yea agree. I think of all the types of production he has managed to do well on...from the mid 90's post boom bap to the late 90's Timbaland style stuff, the soulful Kanye beats, the r&b r Kelly stuff, the dirty South stuff with ugk, and even the jazz influence on 4:44. He has never been my favourite rapper but few are as versatile

@@mihirb8090in the past 10 years the conversation has always been whose the best rapper in TDE, more specifically Black Hippy. This "oh, of course it's Kendrick" is nonsense. Each rapper on any giving day could be better than the other lol. The whole point of this is to see where each rapper rank on this report card thing and have a fun discussion when stack against each other. If it's Kendrick then cool but it's not as clear cut as people think imo.

If we were to evaluate in a vacuum and just evaluate rapping ability, all of Black Hippy is supremely skilled and can be considered the best rapper on any given day. But Kendrick from an artistry perspective, just brings too much to the table, it's hard to form a legitimate argument against him. I expect Kendrick to get the highest grade of anyone in these discussions, period.

In my opinion, you guys could swap innovation with influence. If innovation is supposed to have ground-breaking or super unique expectations with it like Myke said, I don’t think it would be fair because only maybe a handful of rappers meet that criteria. Influence feels more inclusive of more categories like business, culture, trend-setting, etc.

I like this new show idea. In terms of framing the discussion or explanation for each category: what about the idea of starting the conversations with whomever gave the highest and lowest scores within a category? That would allow you to talk about the full range of opinions without making the conversations tedious. Let everyone say their scores, but have the high scorer(s) and the low scorer(s) start the discussion portion. It makes room to discuss disagreements in a pretty efficient way, I think.

Great concept guys, looking forward to the series. Feefo, the 1-10 scale doesn't translate directly to the A-F scale. You saying 8/10 "is a B", just makes it confusing. It's not a B, it's 8/10.
