Hey fellas 9:08 was recalling a famous moment in Black History. A protest by two black olympians. Tommie Smith and John Carlos stood on the podium split up a pair of black gloves and raised their fist in protest during the anthem, after the won gold and bronze in the olympics on some Colin Kaepernick type ish. In 1968. I hear they wrecked their career after that. Quote: As they left the podium they were booed by the crowd.[9] Smith later said, "If I win, I am American, not a black American. But if I did something bad, then they would say I am a Negro. We are black and we are proud of being black. Black America will understand what we did tonight." #Facts
they didn´t recognize Jesse Owens nor the lynching. And they think the video is about J-Z when in reality is about generational wealth, and how rich blacks are not doing it right as another "oppressed" group, the jews, did it (financial freedom my only hope)
I watched many reaction videos, I noticed everyone gets stuck on the graphics and the n word but no one heard the true power of the lyrics. You guys picked up on all the key phrases. This song changed me completely, everything about it is so accurate and so awakening. I really got my million dollar game for 9.99.
Y'all are usually on point, but this entire video flew over y'all heads. You didn't even dissect the video, because you didn't understand any of the visuals.
#lawfamily he sliding all over your head. Damn I thought this was going to be a dope video. Rewatch that video, look up the lyrics, and read them. Hopefully then y'all will redo this video. Y'all not woke enough yet. I still love y'all tho
LØRD MCD to Piggie Back off what you are saying.... that is a reference from a real photo. There is a book specifically that has photos of lynchings this is where you get "Picnic and Bonfire and the like from because these were events that they took their wives and Children to. the chick and the band is Nina Simone the Song is Strange Fruit that is where this sample comes from in this song Jaybo (Jay-Z) is the strange fruit hanging from the trees. the boxer is track and field runners from the olympics in the 60s that photo and story can be accessed look it up. the style of animation is how shit was in the 20s thru the 40s from Warner Brothers in particular but not limited to that company...MGM and the people who did Popeye which i think was the UAA (United Association of Animators of Animation) often drew us as over exaggerated characters of ourselves or animals because they didn't and still don't see us as human. As a matter of fact the 3/5ths of a human being law is still on the books this is why we still have bullseyes on our backs. And the scene withthe Klansmen on the assembly line yes money was made off our blood sweat and tears...but also folk could say we are no better than the klan cause we kill ourselves. i will argue that point but its a double meaning that scene. there are So many Gems in this Vid. I am kinda a young geriatric like Jay is so i get all this shit and i think not only did he want people to take in what he said Audibly but with the visual he wanted to give a history lesson as well. And yall get off Law Twinz backs....what are they like twelve i can't expect them to be historians at that kinda level this early in the game. But i do expect them to learn and grow just like Jay been doing. A man that knows something knows nothing at all. Peace young brothas and sistas.
Mentagasm Thanks For the Lesson sister, Love it.. also, I'm not on their backs.. They're Americans so they should know more than me, but I like Black history a lil bit... If you go on the actual video of this song that's posted, y'all see I did a more in depth Breakdown... 95% of people doesn't notice, Jaybo started "walking" the bridge to the studio then catching a bus to the corner, to having his name on the TV that's in the video, to being on a Yatch and at the end the world gets flooded
LØRD MCD brotha not you...i was just say folks in general are kinda mean on this post. it is what it is though. But people should give the info if they know it and not call people stupid. Hell i don't know everything either but i still read about history and other things. life is a marathon not a sprint. Its Chess not Checkers. the great thing about right now is learning is in the palm of our hands literally.
This is my 1st video I've seen from y'll...and now I'm subscribed!! With my notifications turned on!! Good work guys!! I love that y'll in the kitchen!! The makes it more real, like I'm chilling with the homies!
Tianndra Jordan girl if u don’t getcho... u love their channel cause their the typical ignorant teenager who don’t know shxt about black history ? This masterpiece song is for ppl like them who are unconscious, YET The central message flew right over their heads 😴
Thank you so much. I feel like after watching your video, I have a deeper understanding of this song's message He is speaking about having a slave mentality even in the way we use money Instead of using money to evolve (aka to become wealthy) We use money like slaves and just spend everything as soon as we get it, instead of investing it and producing more wealth"F... living rich and dying broke""You know what's better than spending money at the strip club" Even when we get money, we completely waste it& do not maximize the amazing opportunity given to build an empire,"So we have something to give to our children" Hence, the message of the song: let us stop using money like a bunch of slaves Let us evolve out of the slave mentality& start building wealth!
When the beautiful, ironic, and deep rooted message of the song completely flies over your heads.. smh y'all laughing at the way the mama cleans the clothes and how Jay Z eats watermelon...
I've watched quite a few reaction videos of this track but I have to say you guys are spot on with dissecting these lyrics. there's a lot of stupid people that missed the point or just liked the beat....smh
I'm so true fan of y'all....came back just to make sure tht I did watched this vid especially. This track is 🔥. Can't believe y'all was jus up 200k nd now over a mill good shit keep up the good work .
wooooowwwwwww, the concept of this video just flew over y'all heads. it funny how they thought they were on point with the video, but they are so misinformed and uneducated when it comes to certain things. this just goes to show that you can not rely on any kind of school to teach you about your history. especially black history in America! You need to learn that on your own. the simple fact that they didn't know who heuy newton was or the reference for the black Olympians is honestly heart breaking. don't rely on other peoole to teach you, educated your self with self learning. smh. this was hard to watch honestly :/
Mel Terry I get it but they are young and at least they are trying to understand...this is the audience Jay z is targeting so I am glad that they are at least attempting to try to analyze it. I think they did pretty good with what they did analyze.
Just because they missed a few of the video’s references doesn’t mean they didn’t understand its point. They both picked up on Jay-Z’s idea of race from the opening hook, and the guy on the left seems to understand Jay-Z’s point on monetary gains and generational wealth. I don’t see what they missed
9:10 are Tommie Smith and John Carlos. They are San José State Alumni and Olympians. They did the power fist during the awards ceremony to bring attention to the plight of Black folks at the time/1968/Mexico City games.
I'm younger than they are, not even American and I know this part of history, don't make excuse for their lack of knowledge. Ya'll should go check out xxyounglordsxx
Im sorry to say, but Im unsubbing. This shit just disappointed me. This is whats wrong with our society today. I could barely make it to the end of the video. You guys missed the whole point of the video. Smdh
You can't be famous without selling out. He's part of it; this video is to create more racial tension between blacks and whites. They want us divided. Don't get me wrong, this song is lit, but I know what's going on in the world.
Dude, I think you watched a different video. "this song ain't even about racism", yet the animation is depicted in an old racist style used in the 50's? Oh, I'm guessing the KKK references weren't racism either...
Stop with the devilish implications.. He's making reference to the early infomercials which used to have various products for sale at a price of $9.99 ..I remember the alphoso rebeiro breakdancing "packages" they used to sell on tv during soul train for $19.99 ..
