Behold as I brave buses and raindrops to bring you a vague idea of what the automatic options for the Lotus Evora mean. Does the new automatic box really fare much better than the old "IPS", or is it simply marketing mumbo-jumbo?

I have a 2012 Evora S IPS and, apart from leaving home early in the morning, I have it in sport mode all the time. My experience is that it's reasonably smooth and inoffensive when just cruising about, but does definitely seem to get better the harder you drive the car. I appreciate the limitations of weather and road legality, but really think you'd have come to a more positive conclusion if you'd have been able to test it properly. I am too scared to test drive a 400, as it could end in divorce. Really enjoying your videos.

Great review - only just came across this channel recently and I'm very impressed - certainly one of the best - professional presenter and very knowledgeable

"If I waited for immaculate weather whenever I wanted to film something; I'm afraid that I'd never update the channel" I appreciate that you drive the car in inclement weather as it shows that the car is properly engineered for poor conditions. I bought a used S1 this past September in the U.S. and I must say that I love the car even though I did not initially appreciate the lines over the Elise that I previously purchased. The Evora is a brilliant car that is supple for touring and a beast when you want it to be. The only complaint that I have is that the manual gearbox needs to be babied versus any other manual transmission that I have ever owned. I trust that this is fixed in the 400.

Man, and I thought the weather in Seattle was terrible... Great little review, btw! Keep it coming for us folks state-side.

Nice review, glad I went with the manual but would take an IPS if I were doing more town driving. I thought the one in the background at the start might have been mine (it was supplied by B&C originally), but alas there is another fully nightfall blue one out there!

@@JohnAgustinScuderia458595 Loving it, thanks very much. Highly recommend trying one out, it's got that Lotus character in the twisties but you can also sit on the motorway in real comfort.

@@NightfallDrives I'm looking at the moment at a Elise Sprint 220 Manual and a Evora GT430 AT with a massive discount.

@@JohnAgustinScuderia458595 both a lot of fun 👍 I expect the GT430 would be a better all rounder and a relatively rare type of Evora (which is already quite rare as it is!)

Ps - just bought a 911 and now wonder is an evora might've been a better choice - love the 911 but the lotus has great character and a fantastic exhaust note.

The IPS cars can now have much quicker shifts with aftermarket VB parts. BOE just came out with a kit that really makes the IPS shifts come alive. Reduces shift transitions by about 50%. Night and day difference.

Interesting, thought the shift speed would have been night and day between the 2 cars. Good video again.

Badgers arent nasty. They just get grumpy when cars with sports exhausts wake them when they're sleeping during the day.

Read something from the past year that Toyota's finally made a transverse application of the port+direct injected 2GR-FSE engine (seen in the Highlander and Sienna, and soon to be in the new Camry). Wonder if Lotus could get their hands on one of those engines?

Agree! It struck me that one of the things I like most about this channel is the constant quick comparisons to a lot of other cars. In this video, there are lots of references to other sports/super cars and their autos and that makes it so much easier to understand just how this particular box is and feels.

+James Martin ....is the Evora better then Alfa 4C??
@BARON.SAMEDI.
@BARON.SAMEDI. 7 лет назад
+James Martin ...Thanks for the answer. I drive a Facelift MTA Abarth Competizione, but I thought to buy a 4C Alfa. A friend of mine is a Alfa and Fiat dealer. He has a 4C aswell. I have some problems with the Alfa. No Infotainment...Navigation, no back seat storage..etc. But the biggest Problem is the extra cost for inspection. It is not only the cost of the oil change etc, but after a while I also have a high cost for the bolts fixing.about 800-1000 €uros!!! I didn't knew before that some bolts are to be fixed after a while. So probably will buy Lotus 400 Evora .Here in Germany I can already buy it for about 75.000 €

I really wanted the V6 Emira, but all these auto reviews massively put me off. I understand Lotus are known for manuals, but the point of the Emira is to be daily-able. A good auto is quite important for that, it's shame they're staying with the lotus crappy auto. Also I wouldn't spend 60k for a 4 cylinder. Can get a second-hand GT4 for that money lol.

I’m looking toward ordering a emira. We don’t have manual in China market, and we don’t have gt4 here. So hard to choose. I love the sound of the v6, but the gearbox…

when you change the gear with the paddle shifts in the Evora 400 (Automatic) does it show on the dashboard? (gear 4, 3, 2 ...). I am finalizing a lotus deal and wanted to make sure there are no problems with the car.

Hey I enjoy your videos and hope to one day be a Lotus owner. However, I want to share a thought. Ok you need to do a preamble to cover the basic info, etc. That said, do we really need to watch you maneuver out of a parking lot, turn onto the road and all that?. I clicked on your video to hear a review of the Evora auto/ips. How long do I have to wait before that actually takes place? Seriously! It is over "5 min" in before you share the "very first observation" on the performance of the auto. 5 Minutes! Think of it this way; you might as very well have spent 5 min talking to us about your cat. My time would be near equally as wasted. I am not joking. Some of us have other things to do in life other than watch videos. So when I do, I hope to get the information I seek in a reasonable time frame. Respect your viewers time... let me repeat that... respect your viewers time! Realize that most of us don't watch your videos to fulfill some emotional neediness. We do so because we love Lotus cars and are willing to put up with their idiosyncrasy's. That doesn't mean we feel the same way about you.

If you look at the video you'll notice it was published over two years ago, and was one of my first videos. They're not perfect.
@throker
@throker 5 лет назад
Ok Jay, it was an early video. I have seen several of your other Lotus videos and frankly most are similarly lacking in brevity and concise delivery of information pertaining specifically to the subject (usually the Evora). I want to say my intent is not to be snide or judgemental. I am merely trying to give you a perspective from the viewer standpoint. So try this as an exercise. This is not a joke, seriously try to imagine what I am about to describe............ Imagine that to get the information contained in what I am writing in this post; you had to sacrifice nearly a half hour of your undivided time........ That in all fairness is similar to the experience of viewing this particular video. The sum total of the subjective comments you made on the performance of the auto/ips are comparable in volume than what you have just read. Now how would you feel if you had to sacrifice a half hour of your day to merely read what I just wrote? So one Lotus/BMW/Audi/etc lover to another.... make the content of your videos about the cars....the cars.
@JayEmmOnCars
@JayEmmOnCars 5 лет назад
My delivery style is somewhat loquacious, I will not argue there. I do attempt to shorten videos where I can but I do run the risk of then not explaining enough - I get complaints on my shorter videos about the topics I do not cover. It's a balancing act and I rarely get it right - and I can *never* please everyone
