The difference is that Luka is in the "Amazing" tier of offense which covers the "average" tier of defense he's in. Tatum is in the "Really Good" tier in offense so he needs to be at a higher tier defensive wise to counter argument Luka's offense.

@@joshuahudson1853 Tatum already went out and had a 30 ppg season. He doesn't need to for his team to win, so he took a role in taking less shots for the greater good of the team. The difference isn't enough to ignore the fact Luka doesn't play defense. He is not average. He tries taking charges with 5 fouls, and gets blown by constantly. Tatum's only negative is his clutch play, which hasn't been good. And him having a better team around him, so he doesn't get as many shots as Luka.

JT did not win bc Luka is JB matchup and PJ was JT's they both did their job stop Luka from facilitating and stop PJ from killing you like he did the other teams! JT picked apart the defense to create for his team mates which he chose to send the ball to JB more than Jrue & Derrick while stopping PJ from killing him like he did the Thunders! For voters is about matchups more than what all the player is doing sometimes and the box office matchup here was Edwards Vs Brown which turned into Luka Vs Brown! JT doesn't fit the agenda. On court we all know he elite and actually plays both sides of the court. But also off court presence. Side note is that he plays for Boston. Their run and chip has shown the shade most have from the team. They won without their starting 5 being healthy and somehow what other team do means something.

I'm a Celtics fan so naturally I'm very biased when it comes to all things Celtics. I like them to beat any team in the east in 6 games or less, this includes the new-look Knicks, Sixers and any of the old guard. Against the west? I struggle to see them dropping more than 1 or 2 games against ANY team that makes it to the finals. Edit: Forgot to mention that this is assuming they're healthy and aren't missing their key pieces. If they're missing guys then teams like the Knicks, Bucks and 6ers obviously have a shot at knocking the Cs out before the finals.

Clutch? Last year Tatum scored 18 in the 4th at Philadelphia while being down 3-2 then in game 7 scored more than any single person ever in an elimination game. If Luka or Giannis did that, there wouldn’t be 2 seconds on any sports show where they’re still not talking about it

If he takes away the step back 3's and the Kobe turnarounds his efficiency would go way up. You saw in the playoffs if the shot wasn't there, he put his head down and either got to the rack or had a nice dish. He was also doubled a ton which nobody ever mentions.

In the finals he wasn't doubled a ton. And he kept shooting, even though he was missing every shot. And he led the Celtics in turnovers.

@@penkima4923 rewatch. The first 2 game it was all double inside the 3pt line and anytime he went corner. That’s why he started dishing a ton and was racking up assists. He also led it pts assists and rebounds. Normally person with ball the most has most turnovers.

Joker is not the first “point center” we have seen. Hakeem was definitely a point center and by far the most skilled center to play that position. This Recency bias is starting to get out of hand.

I’d say he’s the evolution of Bill Walton Vlade Divac and Chris Webber. I think the way the game evolved allowed Jokic to bring the ball up but those guys were just as skilled passing and ball handling.

Would you rather be a 6er's fans and having a top 2 mvp candidate each year but losing in the 2nd round? Between 2016 and 2018 I'd have said with a straight face that Klay is the best 2-way player in basketball: He could defend better than anyone who wasn't known specifically for their defence (i.e. Kawhi, Draymond, Gobert) but could score as well as anyone in the league, particularly better than those guys who could also claim to be good defenders. He didn't win an MVP. I don't think he has a chance of winning one on a team with Luka who will stuff the stat box too much and at best see the two cannibalize each others chances. Putting him in the odds would be like an honorable mention or a hot take (kind of like Tatum) as he's just not nearly as good as Jokic, Giannis, or Embid and if Wemby puts up the points to warrant it, that award will likely be his anyway.

One thing Nick and Chris overlook about why there hasn’t been a repeat champ since the Warriors is due largely to injuries. Every defending champ since the KD Warriors has had one of their two best players be injured for extended periods the following season.

The notion Tatum is not tenacious defensively is absurd. Dallas’ lob game cratered in the finals after being the most efficiently lethal weapon in the Western Conference playoffs. Tatum was Boston’s primary defender against the lob the whole series and turned that weapon into a detriment. Also, the best player in the NBA is Wemby. Remember, with no help, he got the better of Joker, Giannis, and Luka - and outplayed them head to head the last 2 months of the year

I'm going to be as unbiased as possible and really try to rank the top 25 in the NBA right now while prioritizing youth, defense, health, and regular season + playoffs performance (this is actually really fun, and everyone should try to do it). 1) Jokic 2) Giannnis 3) SGA 4) Luka 5) Tatum 6) Embiid 7) Lebron 8) AD 9) KD 10) Brunson 11) Curry 12) Booker 13) Ant 14) Zion 15) Kawhi 16) Sabonis 17) Haliburton 18) Wemby 19) Mitchell 20) Fox 21) Brown 22) Kyrie 23) Sengun 24) Maxey 25) Murray Notes: AD, Brunson, and Sabnois are severely underrated. Ant is hard to rank because he had an amazing post season, but he was much more tame during the regular season. Lebron, KD, Curry, and Kawhi are hard to rank, because they are still elite, but their age is a factor. Luka is bad on defense, but he is still young and his offense is too elite to ignore. Tatum is high because he's young, always healthy, solid on offense and defense and just won the chip. Embiid is incredible but he is lower because he's always injured. Wemby is this high purely because of his youth and potential. Wemby could legit be top 10 next season. Brown could be even higher because of his defense alone. Brown shut down Luka numerous times in the Finals. Murray had a bad season and postseason, hence him being so low. Butler didn't make the list because he always coasts in the regular season, hurting his stats. Maybe if Butler made up for it with an amazing playoff run, but he was injured and the Heat lost in the first round.
