Im not here for tearing down a 22 year old kid that plays hard and lead his team to a conference finals just because he ran out of gas and struggled offensively in the last few games. Thats what happens when your young superstars actually give max effort and are learning how to win in the playoffs, especially coming off a 7 game series victory against the defending champs!!!! Its all about effort on defense, athleticism can take you from good to elite but every single player can be a good defender if they want to learn and they want to give the effort. Luka is proving that this year (lowest opp FG% against in the playoffs this year)and Joker proved it last year as well. The problem is that some of these older "superstars" have gotten away with putting forth zero effort defensively for the last 20 years (looking at you, damian lillard and james harden) and they tried to convince us its because they are just "limited" as defenders and have to carry large offensive burdens. No, they were lazy defenders who inflated their offensive numbers by expending all their energy on that side of the ball. Point blank period. But that created this media culture that started off as legit criticism of players becoming lazy, but eventually the laziness was accepted and all that was left is this constant buildup and tear down of young players for the sake of views regardless of whether or not its fair criticism. ESPN should be ashamed of themselves for the way they cover sports these days, sports journalists from the old days are rolling in their graves watching ESPN try to sell reality television as legitimate journalism and sports news coverage. This new gen of players are old school in that they take pride in defense in a way the players of the late 00s-10s just didn't. Those older guys let eachother off the hook for it because if it was a widespread thing then it made it easier for them to pretend it WASN'T an "I'm not expending energy on defense so I can get better numbers offensively" problem but a "offensive players are too talented, we cant do anything about it" problem. We fans knew this was BS because the product on screen was underwhelming at best, if they were so great then why wasn't basketball as fun to watch anymore? Because very few top guys were actually trying defensively and it brought down the quality of basketball being played across the entire league on BOTH sides of the ball in spite of what the inflated stats indicate. Glad to see these young stars exposing some of these vets for the lazy players they always were. Basketball is entering another golden age, I just hope the NBA figures out how to market these players and teams again so they get the shine they deserve. ESPN should be ashamed for the way they cover sports these days, their business model is hype the young guys no matter what then tear them down no matter what because its "compelling television."

The Tatum hate is obvious. Dude has five conference finals appearances and two finals appearances. Took LeBron to game 7 as a rookie. Then there's the all NBA accolades Edwards is exciting, but is clearly a media product. No comparison between these two players careers. If you switch Tatum and LeBron and LeBron led a 64 win team and sleep walked to the finals, he would be at the top. Kyrie is a nice redemption story, but people are overdoing it.

This aged like milk. Kyrie with 16-4-2 on 33% from the field and 17% from 3 in a loss. Even against a good defense those aren’t top 3 player in the league numbers as a number 2 option. Am I a biased Cs fan? Yes. But the Tatum criticism is getting a bit out of hand.
