I had the great honor of studying with Bob Cunningham in the mid ‘70s. He was a great teacher.

Sometimes he plays a bit out-of-tune, though he is a fine player. His intonation on the Blue Note Johnny Coles session (1963) is a bit dodgy, but it makes the ensembles spicy and I like the album. A little later, he was on a Blue Mitchell Blue Note session and (unlike the Coles session) it was not issued until much later. Joe Henderson suggested that Alfred Lion left it unissued (in the 1960s) because of Leo's intonation. Actually, there were a couple of other out-of-tune alto players on Blue Note sessions. Leo played nice flute on Antonio Jobim's album "The Composer Of Desafinado Plays".

An old Conn 6M alto, maybe late 30s to mid 40s
@jeanhodgson8623
@jeanhodgson8623 3 года назад
It makes no difference where the upper octave hole is. It should not affect your choice of instrument. The King saxes also have the underslung top octave key. Have a look at Cannonball Adderley's horn. As it happens, I prefer the Selmer arrangement, with the key on top. The Conn has been said to have a fast action, but I have never played one, so I don't know. My horns have all been Selmers. The Conn keys for the left little finger are not as good as on the Selmer, from the "balanced action" onward.

Some guy was talking to Dizzy Gillespie. He said "Do you ever play serious music?". Diz glared at him and said "You think I'm not serious?".

The creator is the Lord Jesus Christ. John 1:3 says "All things were made by him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.". God will not listen to your prayers unless you have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour. There is no other Saviour. (See Isaiah 40) Here is how to be saved "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23) "The wages of sin is death." (Romans 6:23) "God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8) "Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and ... he was buried, and ... he rose again the third day according to the scriptures." (I Corinthians 15:3-4) "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved." (Acts 16:31) "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life." (John 3:36)

@@jeanhodgson8623 Please see below ultimate Koran view of Jesus (PBUH) and his followers. Chapter 5 -The Table spread 109. Have fear of the day when God will bring all the Messengers together and ask them, "What was the response of people in to your call?" They will reply, "We have no knowledge. You are the only One who has knowledge of the unseen." 110. When God said, "Jesus, son of Mary, recall My favors to you and your mother. (Recall) how I supported you by the holy spirit, made you speak to people from your cradle and when you grew up, taught you the Book, gave you wisdom, the Torah, and the Gospel. (Recall) when, by My will, you made a sculpture of a bird out of clay, blew into it, and it turned into a real bird by My Will. (Recall) how, by My will, you healed the deaf, the lepers, and raised the dead. (Recall ) when you came to the Israelites in the house with clear miracles and I saved you from their mischief, even though the disbelievers among them said, "This is obviously magic". 111. (Recall) when I inspired the disciples to have faith in Me and My Messenger. They said, "We have accepted the faith. Lord, bear witness that we have submitted ourselves to Your will" 112. (Recall) when the disciples said, "Jesus, son of Mary, can your Lord send us a table full of food from heaven?" and you replied, "Have fear of God if you are true believers". 113. They said, "We only wish to eat therefrom to comfort our hearts, to know that you have spoken the Truth to us, and to bear witness to it along with the others." 114. When Jesus prayed, "Lord, send us a table full of food from heaven so that it will make a feast for us and for those who are yet to come in this world and an evidence from You. Give us sustenance, for You are the best Provider," 115. God replied, "I am sending it to you, but if anyone of you turns back to disbelief, I will make him suffer a torment that no one has ever suffered." 116. When God asked Jesus, son of Mary "Did you tell people to consider you and your mother as their gods besides God?" he replied, "Glory be to you! How could I say what I have no right to say? Had I ever said it, You would have certainly known about it. You know what is in my soul, but I do not know what is in Yours. It is You who has absolute knowledge of the unseen. 117. "I did not tell them anything except what You commanded me to tell them. I told them that they must worship God who is everyone´s Lord. I watched them as long as I was among them, until You raised me to Yourself and You Yourself had also watched over them; You are Omnipresent. 118. You may punish Your servants or forgive them for You are Majestic and Wise." 119. God will say, "This is the Day when the truthful ones will benefit from their truthfulness. For them there are gardens wherein streams flow and they will live therein forever. God is pleased with them and they will be pleased with God in their supreme triumph. 120. To God belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them and He has power over all things. Chapter The Table spread (Al Maidah) We ask The Creator of the Heavens and Earth to lift this plague globally 🌏😎 👍🏾🇦🇺

About 2012 (not sure of date) I saw a doc on PBS -- may have been their American Masters series, which was about Dizzy and his return to Cuba to play a concert with local jazz musicians . Very personal about his early life there and how jazz is a collaborative effort whenever musicians get together to play regardless of nationality.
