I just spent about 40 min watching this 21 min video, with lot's of "rewinds", being sure I understood the chords and the progression. I felt compelled to write with a thank you. I found your pacing, your casual relaxed tone, and the step by step progression from "level 1" to "level 7" to be great. I played along throughout, taking breaks to write down all the chords and labeling each note and its position in the scale on my paper, for full comprehension. Thank you for a great lesson!

I love how much the melodies resolve to the next chord, and the way the jazzy melody resolution is both aurally predictable, but feels surprising when it is in context. Very neat way to take a C major scale, and providing all that color by moving through the progression. Thanks for the collab, I really enjoyed the banter and easy way you unpacked some very complex concepts that make it sound so simple when slowed down and explained.

Besides the consistently amazing playing and video topics, you've evolved into by far the best filmmaker on youtube. I'm a professional guitarist and youtuber based in Atlanta and your videos always set a new benchmark for cinematography and color. I was so excited when I saw this video come through this morning. This might be the best video on RU-vid for guitarists who are just getting their feet wet in jazz, or trying to incorporate a bit of jazz into their current playing style. I love the dude from music theory for guitar, and Jens Larsen provides great resources, but nobody can break down ideas and make them digestible like Paul Davids. The perfect example was all the comments I saw on Rick Beato's compression video about being just as totally confused after watching the video as they were beforehand. I just told them all to check out Paul Davids compression video

I've been playing these chords for years not knowing what they are, just that they tonally fit with what I was thinking. I'm so happy to now understand the theory of where and why they fit

I am currently trying to decide whether to go onto the next stage of college and was unsure if jazz was for me as I don’t often listen to it but the theory behind this makes me very encouraged and I think this video has made up my mind for me. Thank you both I really love this video!!

This is a really cool format for learning a style. A little bit of theory and broad ideas, some examples, and then the different levels of complexity to gradually build practical familiarity. Love it, would love to see more of this!

Rotem is so good that he makes it looks like so simple if we see it from his POV. By any means, it is not simple at all but that's how good Rotem is to carry a peasant like me and show the beautiful mystery of Jazz.

I love that the tabs are added to the videos Paul. Awesome touch. And I'm late but I definitely subscribed to Rotem after this video. You two are like a dynamic duo in teaching. You just made this make so much sense that I feel like I can really understand and reproduce it. Much slower though. lol

@David Wang I'm not putting it in a bad way, in fact that way he leaves space for the other guy to explain and elaborate, as you mention! I'm just saying that the way it's scripted and presented was funny to me.

@David Wang he is pretending for the real basic stuff for sure, in such a way as to be a good host and generate an educational video. he's playing the role of the viewer.
