Justin Lui your favorite players???? Yes dude I'm not saying he is one of the all time greats or even top 10 but I would still be putting his ass in the top 100 in 20 years from now when the greatest generation of talent is retired and therefore gets to be put on the list.
Jeremiah: I agree. I thought that when I heard John on First Take a couple of years ago. It's a pity he's not an analyst - maybe not from his perspective, but definitely from the standpoint of us hoops fans who'd really appreciate hearing from him more.
little overrated...playing with malone helped his assists...he wasnt that great..a lot of his stats are cumulative for playing 19 mostly healthy years ..he wasnt a top 5 point guard ever...lost a lot of playoff games series too...i like him but come on now..curry Westbrook magic oscar thomas shit on him as point guard players
Asmosis Jones overrated? You jut had your basketball IQ revoked. Stockton would have done this on any team. That team wasn’t just Malone. Someone had to get Malone the ball. Stockton was a great great great defender, a great shooter, a leader, clutch. Many players have lost many games. Westbrook isn’t a leader, Paul is close but Paul is playing in his first ever conference finals, Stockton played in 6. And how is Curry above Stockton? Because he can shoot threes? Curry isn’t a great defender, he’s not a great passer, and he’s benefiting from having Klay and Durant by his side.
@@razkable Stockton has avg 14 a year twice. Magic couldn't do it once. I mean magic had plenty more weapons. That was a idiotic statement. He was a top 3 PG his whole career.
Asmosis Jones The only way you come to this conclusion is to: 1. Not take a deep look into his stats. 2. Not watch a full game of him playing. It’s clear to everyone here that you haven’t done either.
Glad John is doing interviews. Such a quiet self kept person, always avoided the media despite being in the discussion for best PG of all time. He could also dunk, but wasn't into being flashy, just wanted to be pure and get the W. Back in my day, he dunked for a high school in Utah just to show that he could in-fact dunk.
Stockton is the HOAT! ("Humblest of all-time.") Great player! Stockton's comment about others telling him people talked trash to him but he didn't know it is barely believable. There are only a handful of guys who could say that and not be joking or lying. That's an insane level of concentration. Stockton's assist record will never even be tested. Any young guy who thinks Stockton couldn't play now needs to share his argument with GP. In my opinion, Stockton was one of the best shooters of all-time not known for being a shooter. Everyone thought of him as a floor general passer but he could shoot the lights out. I remember his shot to beat the Rockets in the playoffs. He got a wide open look and everyone knew the game was over. He was 6'1" in b-ball shoes and three pairs of socks but he played with no fear. One thing he did have, as a physical advantage, was a pair of hands that belonged to a 6'9" guy! Huge!!
As a life-long Laker fan, I hated John Stockton and Karl Malone, but it was always out of respect for just how good he & Karl Malone were. John was one of the fiercest competitors I've ever watched in any sport. I hated him because he used to kill my Lakers, but man I would've loved to have him on my team. HOF well deserved.
@@rkcraig348 Same here. I hated Stockton, but it was basically because he was so damn good, relentless, in your face, irritating, couldn't relax when he was on the floor against you. I've been loving watching these videos about him. Makes me wish I'd been a little more open minded about him back when he was playing. Glad, though, I finally came around!
I 'm huge zags fan from Syracuse(unusual) so obviously big stockton fan growing up. gary payton aka glove said Stockton was hard to defend than Jordan. Price was like that b/c players like that constantly took u around screens and used other nuances. Guarding someone in straight up ISO situation is where MJ, westbrook, Durant, and harden seem unstoppable. Stockton was not really so much a pass first PG as he was lets make the best basketball decision on the court.
Mark Price was amazing. Basically tied for second best point guard ever with all of them. If I sound like a Stockton prejudice guy, I am. What? Utah kid from 80s and 90s.
When i was 12 i was playing basketball with some friends in my driveway and John Stockton and his wife came walking by and when i saw him i passed him the ball he said nice pass and passed it back so we asked him to play dynamite(knockout). He said maybe later. After he left my neighbors house and was walking back to his car he played 1 game with up, didn't miss one shot and won the game. I will remember that for the rest of my life.
One of the greatest stories is from Gary Payton. Payton was a top notch trash talker. He proceeded to talk trash to John. John didn’t say a word, but ended up with 20 points, 14 assists, and 4 steals or something like that. Payton said he never talked trash to John again because one, he never answered, and two, he would just go out and do his thing, and you couldn’t stop it. As far as best PG, John is tops. No disrespect to Magic, I have Magic the better player. I have Magic right behind Jordan. But as a PG, Stockton rewrote the record books as a PG, numbers that may never be broken
Speaks to how great he is/was that he says in the interview that Magic's passing and vision were second to none. I personally would argue John's was better, but he's too humble to come out with that type of statement and maybe he is right. We know Magic is in the discussion with John and others for best PG of all time.
Purely passing: John's a tad better. Overall player: Magic's better, but Magic Johnson couldn't have achieved nearly what Little John did if he was 6-foot w/ no fast twitch muscle fibers. Stockton lived the purer life too, on top of that he was the purer point guard, whereas Magic was more glamour and capable of taking over an entire game.
The description says Stockton talks about "the Jazz's current playoff run." There wasn't one question about that, and thus, of course, no word or answer from Stockton about that.
Stockton is such a cool cat. I wish they wouldn't put the camera on him all the time when he comes to jazz games- they know he didn't want the exposure. Stockton would thrive in today's game without jordan and harper and pippen putting their mitts all over them. Isaiah thomas was a killer.
very high true basketball iq thats why he said wilt hes not brainwashed no wonder he leads 2 categories so does wilt block rebounds only 2 players to do it numbers dont lie nba/shoe sales do
What's great about John Stockton (and you can just hear by how he is talking) he isn't a Mormon-Christian, he is a Catholic-Christian, he doesn't go around committing adultery against his wife, and he isn't going to do that in the future. Mormon-Christians can definitely respect that about Stockton. The NBA pushes so many scumbags out there to the public who are adulterers, druggies and all the rest... the NBA never promoted Stockton like they should have, and that was a shame, an absolute travesty. The NBA should be promoting guys like John Stockton every chance they get to the younger generation. As popular as Stockton is, he should be a lot more popular. No question about that. . . .
Even if he weren't affiliated with a religion, he would still be a straight shooter. Would have been a great ambassador for the game, but he was really quiet and avoided the press. It isn't a role he would have wanted.
Anon EmouseMan yes people make mistakes, but don't forget we didn't earn our righteousness. Jesus Christ gave us His righteousness. Just pray for them to change and receive Christ.
To Rakesh: Don't take this personally but we are going to have to agree to disagree. We do earn our righteousness. A person does the best that they can ethically and morally over a long enough time, and then the God of gods downloads complete one hundred righteousness into a person's spirit. The spirit is a cloud computer so therefor downloading righteousness into a person's spirit is totally possible. Often this is done in the next life after death, but there are a few (like Elijah, Moses, and others) who had 100% righteousness downloaded into their spirit in this life, so it is possible, if a person does what Jesus Christ says to do. Doing what Jesus Christ said to do is the key to unlocking the power of the Universe in a person's life.
To Player Review: If John Stockton wasn't affiliated with a religion he would have helped to mass murder over 80 million Chinese people during the so called "people's cultural revolution" or millions of Cambodians and Russians or he would have done some things that are equally evil. The idea that not believing mathematics is the same thing as believing in mathematics that is totally one hundred percent false. The idea that not believing in morals or ethics and learning about that very complicated subject over the course of a person's lifetime is the same as doing that... that those two ways of life are same, this is totally ridiculous. On the other hand a lot of religious leaders are pedophiles who become religious leaders because it gives them a chance to do that kind of evil, so be aware by keeping your eyes wide wide wide open. Naivety is not a good thing, anyone that says so is naive. . . .
you have to understand stockton and malone....they will never ever put MJ in their top 5 ....guys HE was the reason why they dont have ring(s) on their hands
I heard Kerr say that on Open Court, but on reflection I think he was kind of half-joking. I'm sure Stockton probably got under Kerr's skin, as he did a lot of people, because he was such a frikking fierce competitor. I could definitely be wrong here, but Kerr is a pretty funny dude, and it's plausible to me that he knew it would get a rise out of everybody, and that was true that all the rest of the guys on the show that night exploded laughing. I think Kerr and Stockton are both class acts, and it's hard for me to imagine there's any real animosity there. My .02... ;-)
If you ever met John Stockton, you would not be saying what a nice guy. He was antisocial and weird. He used to come into a store I worked at, he told little kids he doesn't sign autographs, he would tell adults he did not have time, not that he was rude, just direct. He would wait until the parking lot was clear, then run in grab his stuff, and hurry out. Unless a price went up, he did not want to spend 5 cents more for a candy bar. Weird guy
Johnny O'Connor I hear yeah on that. Don’t get me wrong I love everything about Stockton, but he was super anti social and reclusive. Stockton was a guy that wanted to play in the NBA, but he wanted absolutely nothing to do with anything that comes along with playing in the NBA. So no media, no appearances, no basketball camps, no fan fare, etc... but it’s all good, because Malone had enough personality for both of them and then some
He still sounds great to me. He was frugal and didn't like the limelight. I don't think it's fair to expect someone who is famous to sign your autograph everywhere they go. If he did that, he really wouldn't have as much time to do other things, such as spend more time with his family etc. He just wants to have a normal outing to the store without excessive attention. I don't think he was necessarily anti-social, just anti-famous sometimes. I'm sure he was firm but cordial about his requests to not sign autographs, which he has a right to do that.
